yes, but if you're "joe average user" who has no idea what g-spot is, or what a codec is.. its a pain in the ass. which is why people care about formats.
obviously you've never tried to download a video and play it in good old Windows Media Player. Formats are a bitch to Windows users. Trying to download a codec pack (which are alway riddled with spyware), or using g-spot to find what video/audio codec you need..
that's the joys of mplayer, everything just works.
on the flipside of this, I've installed it for a LOT of people for varying reasons mostly relating to crippled copies of IE. Once a user actually uses Firefox, they rarely stop. Regardless of the "fancy" features like tabbed browsing, skins, etc.. its just faster.. which is all the average user cares about.
Microsoft already does this, they just mask it from the stupid "end user"
Winver will show you exactly what version you are running, and what the build number is.
Let me get this straight.. you're pissed off because they threw "extra" into the service pack instead of releasing a new version and charging you for it? I think your wallet is too fat, and is affecting the bloodflow to your brain..
If you are running Windows XP SP1/SP2 or Windows Server 2003, the Windows Validation Assistant can scan your product key to help you determine whether your computer's operating system is genuine
Rockstar Games contacted a friend of mine because he left the GTA Vice City in his torrent software for over a week. It didn't help that his IP had a PTR record that pointed directly to a website with contact information...
I like the idea as well, it also means that cars will have the ability to drive faster than if being driven manually. I do like the idea of a manual override tho.
My solution: I bought a ATI USB wonder. Then using xkbd I was able to map all the keys out on the remote, and set up the config file for MythTV to do whatever I wanted. This remote is great, because it has a number of buttons that are used specifically for this (labeled a - h if I remember correctly). Its also RF not IR so you don't have to have line of site.
MythTV is great, if you have a non HDTV, and you have a week to configure it the way you want.
I simply couldn't get a good enough modeline for my HDTV, and got sick of the inability to group my files (example: finding one of my recorded episodes of Monster Garage took 5 minutes to get to because i had to start at A or Z and scroll through every other movie/tv show to get to it)
Freevo was better, it allows you to customize your menus more, but its a less polished product, and I need something my girlfriend can use.
Switched to XBOX Media Center with a HDTV kit and have never looked back. IMDB works great, so does the cd lookup (allmusic.com i think?)
Everyone keeps asking questions like which one is cheaper to produce and which one has more patents not to mention what's easier to say and we can't forget who has what backers
The reality is, the general public is stupid, and will simply follow whichever has a better ad during insert crappy "reality" TV show's name here that's on Fox anyways.
They shouldn't have to educate their employees. The email shouldn't get to them in the first place.
they should have no internet, no email, etc. its the DMV not a cyber cafe.
if they really decide that they can't live without internet, there's such thing as properly configured antivirus to scan email before it even gets to the desktop (not to mention antivirus FOR the desktop)
one of them is useless.
Who's going to give better support, the company that designed it, or the company that resells it.
Think I'll stick to an Apple iPod
They're giving out invites like crazy now, I had 6 yesterday, used them all, and now I have 6 more today..
Curious as to if its actually coming out of Beta now?
feel free to drop me a line if you want one, I'm finished inviting people now:)
I like how Paris Hilton draws a WTF but Tara Reid doesn't.. all of slashdot now knows that you have a preference towards fake boobs
odd.. goooooooooooooooogle (16 zeros) has 27,000+ more hits than any other multi-zero search.. weird

i'd say that just about any mp3 (except celine dion) would sound better than a prince record from 1984.

a serious "hacker" wouldn't need an interface that had a button ;)
Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday in October.. this is a bit late isn't it?

companies are apparently watching.

Yes I stole all of this from iRobot...

so if you give a copy to someone, either read it first or borrow it back
If anyone has any good tips for not bending the hell out of a book so that its not blatently obvious that you've read it, i'd love to hear them.

who plans downtime directly after they release a story.. sounds like they didn't plan for
anyone have a mirror?

bottom line is that someone was lazy.

Compared to AIX or HP-UX, 28 steps is shockingly bad
28 steps? All I have to do on my windows machine is click next, next, finish..
now if only I could recover my data off this not so dynamic disk..
this also reminds me of The Suffering
A recent discovery in polyester (yes, polyester, you disco baby) lubricants
THAT explains why people got so busy back in the 70s.
