Also, TFA says that most programmers do not think like thier users. Of course they don't or they would just sit around and whine about not having any good software instead of trying to write it. I am a former user of software for which I now develop on.
I have been counted at least twice though. I am a veteran and got a letter from the VA with a previous theft, and that was just a few months after I got a letter from Boeing telling me that my info was stolen. Have not heard anything about this latest one, I do appreciate the free credit monitoring I get now, but I am not convinced it would do me any good if someone was really using my info. Plus it is only for one year, that is a relatively short period of time, the info has an unlimited life.
2. Accelerator keys that give a quick and simple way to stay off the mouse(non existant in a Mac, on par with linux in my opinion) http://rixstep.com/2/20040510,00.shtml
7. More natural methods of interfacing(especially when I am filling out forms online. a great example is the tab key. in windows, I can tab to check boxes, text boxes, or drop down boxes and then manipulate those. I have been searching and have yet to figure out a quick way to do this on a mac, just one example) http://www.getfirefox.net/
Both are very severe problems in my opinion. But niether trump the lacking functionality of a mac (for me) or the lacking software apps in linux for which OSS implementations don't exist.
Now, what is that list of software that is only available for windows?
The system I worked on had a component that could record 6 hours of digital audio and it was developed in the 80's. The device was about the size of two VCR's.

You obviously have never served your country.
If it gets information that saves the lives of the innocent, then yes. If your life was saved due to someone pulling another person's (not a normal person, someone who takes joy in seeing women and children burning alive) fingernails out with pliers, would you complain? I am not saying that the ends justify the means, but these guys are not your happy neighbor who coexists with you, they have one goal.
Wait a minute. To us it's only a dollar. You can provide food and clothing for a child in a developing nation for a few cents a day, but they have money to pay for internet pr0n? They need to stop spending their money on teh internets and buy some damn food then. I'm glad I didn't sponsor one of those spoiled little kids then if they are just gonna use it to get internet access to send me spam.
One market that Google is not taking advantage of is DOD. They want to charge close to half a million dollars per server and insist that there be a server at each site. Since we are on closed networks, we cannot access teh interweb. The users seem to want it, but Google's greediness is preventing them from having it. I am working on my second 3D map implementation (switched companies) and we are providing our software free of licensing fees to the goverment. Google does not access the formats of imagery that the DOD uses that I know of, which might be higher resolution and newer with annotations. I guess my point here is that Google could charge a nominal fee, or work a deal for a certain number of servers, instead they were greedy and someone else will fill the void... and our stuff runs win/lin/mac/unix, which we are proud of
We had a developer who played WoW all day and then charged overtime to do the work he was supposed to be doing durring the day... and he did not get fired. If that's not wrong, I don't know what is.
and what part of speech is "develloped?"
I would hazard a guess that most people do not use proper grammar in daily speech, and even less do on the internet. This is also true for foreign languages. In my experience, if you learn proper grammar, there will still be difficulty communicating with native speakers until you learn all the improper uses and bad habits that are common among native speakers.
I worked for a group of a company before that sold software. We charged $20k for a runtime license and $120k for a developer license. We also sold services because the software was not easy for developers to work with.
Now I work for a company that gives it's software away, but charges for services. We have a much larger customer base and it's growing every day. My old company is not doing so well, almost half the people are charging to overhead. If they started giving their software away, they would have a large number of customers clamoring for support and improvements.
What is my point? Maybe Apple should evaluate where they are today and where they could be tomorrow. If they offered OS XI for x86, I would buy it (not steal it.) Windows is at a precarious point right now, and there are a lot of people who love their iPods... Maybe they charge double for open x86 licenses, or maybe they offer it to other hardware vendors at a reduced rate. I am not a business guy, but I think if you hold your products too tightly then you risk losing your share.
I took the floppy out of my last computer that had one on Monday and tossed it in the trash, good riddens. Talk about unreliable and limited capability data storage...

4. Far cheaper(only compared against a mac, I build my own machines now and roll an old harddrive image over, so costs are level with linux)

yeah, I am actually too lazy to read the article, or replies that are longer than 2 sentences. So maybe laziness is good for productivity
