Are you talking about thin client or remote desktop access? VNC does pretty much what you're looking to do. One computer, one set of data, accesible from anywhere depedning on how you set it up. I believe there's also a jav version that you could easily run off an Apache server.

Otherwise check out www.ltsp.org for terminal services/thin client options.

If the employees have the code, they may be able to get another startup going. Linux software can be successful in the marketplace, but you need to be careful how to manage it. What I'm suggesting (because I know now that Jamie is probably reading this) is to go with a multi-dimensional moderation system instead of the current flat moderation system. Maybe use color coding along with the numeric system. If I write an intelligent off topic post I get mod'ed as +2, red. Those who don't want to read offtopic posts can then set to squelch all red posts and only read the green (default) posts. Anyway, just a suggestion.

I suppose I could get audio addons and software for it, but how many MP3s can you really store in the 16 MB Sony anyway? Cool product, yes, but all this talk about blowing Palm and Handspring off the market... not a chance. Where's the expenasion slot? Can I pop a Magellan GPS unit onto it? They know how to make a buck in that market. Remember back in 1994 when you could buy an IBM desktop with OS/2 and Dell/Gateway/Compaq with Windows 95? They bundled a failing OS (OS/2 rocks, M$ marketdroids made it fail) into a proprietary box and charged more money. I'm not a genius, but it's pretty simple to see how IBM lost their desktop market.

Still, Netfinity servers, Thinkpad notebooks, and their midrange (AS/400, S/390) servers rock. IBM knows that's where their money is, and they do a great job at it.

Because its sounds so good. There's nothing like the crunch of plugging your guitar into a Marshall stack and blowing people out of the building. It's tough to capture that tube sound in digital technology, and this ethernet guitar takes it one step farther away from the analog that they want. In a cable situation, you're sucking up a lot more bandwidth than they THINK you paid for. You're "granted" a certain portion of neighborhood shared bandwidth. By hooking up 253 PCs you're now exceeding that bandwidth that was "granted" to you. , and they call it stealing. It's poor design on their part, but it's easier to charge people for useless technology than fix their screwup.
