I've been reading Slashdot most days, and very rarely writing and posting to it, since I was a teenager.
I don't think I would be working in IT, and at least not doing as well, if I didn't read all of the deep and wonderful insights about the future, diatribes about obscure unix commands, and why I shouldn't let a corporation bully people or other companies.
These are the kinds of things that need to let flourish, and in bringing in more people to the fold the real hook is letting people feel okay to ask questions. The ability to post as an AC here is one of the greatest features I've ever found in any forum. I've asked hundreds of stupid questions on Slashdot over the years, and the really stupid ones were almost always AC, but they always got an answer.
I don't feel that comfortable on Reddit or StackOverflow, or anywhere else on the web.
If you can keep holding onto that ability to let people ask questions, you'll always be able to have this forum, even if the colors change,
Google supports more than firefox browser wise. Google will probably move towards a WebOS vs an operating system, maybe expand their google personal search homepage - http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en . But yeah I doubt they go all firefox as that would alienate so many people and is as much a bad idea as going all ie would be for them. Proprietary anything is bad.
IE7 is a hell of a lot better in ui and in functionality then ie6, and beats out Mozilla's current bloat (firefox evangelist versions.2-.8) but I still am using opera as my main browser.
My favorite place in surburbia and it is a recently opened and flowering gaming cafe. It serves a purpose for not necessarily the outcast kids but a lot of kids from the varying high schools around in Columbia, Maryland (there's 8 high schools and it blew my mind when i first moved here, though I moved from a similar sized place). They don't just stick to pc, they do consoles too which really helps the friend and communicative aspect. The two guys and their wives/girlfriends who run it are always there, responsive and generally there to work with us. They offer enough variety and good priced snacks that the no outside food rule works fine, I'm really loving this place and they're actually expanding when they can serve about 50 gamers at anytime as is(which I have seen filled to capacity). So I think if you're looking for a model of inspiration these guys would be it. (Note: It's not only teens who hang out there, but they are my and the main demographic)
My parents recently bought me a tao xm 2 go player, and though its a really great piece of equipment there are some limiting factors, main issue is the fact its a pretty hefty device and yet it can only store 5 hours of music which the riaa mandated i believe last year. But there's nothing really to prevent me from copying audio over to my computer which I do under my fair use privleges and with the av cable that came lovingly packed into the box. The audio quality is really good even on the wireless fm, but a major con on the recorded audio factor (my xm) is that you can't skip within a track so if I accidently skip on a 2 hour session I can't go back and then fast forward to where I was. Very annoying. But what I don't really comprehend is why the RIAA is involved to begin with, as isn't radio controlled by the royalties organizations bmi/emi/ascap?
They're giving 150 rebate for new users so that a tivo box only costs 50 dollars, they're gonna execute that 150 fee back at those people if they cancel.
Wrong they'd be shot in 16:9 or 2:35:1 because of hdtv rollouts in 2006. You should pay more attention to this stuff since you're hanging around slashdot.
They definietely shwoed the sex minig game on aots show last night for the computer which had to be hacked, but the agme is in there and should be in the ps2 it's just unlockable until someone makes a crack for it over something like a usb key or memory card.
I don't see that for Linux to become accepted it has to go to one standard, bacuase it's becoming accepted without one standard. Part of it is most likely the whole RPM choice, though Debian based Distro's can do alien and format them to a.deb package other distro's don't have that option. But this brings up the whole point of splits from a base, like last week with Debian vs Ubuntu, ubuntu is using the new debian models and there are more Ubuntu destops being used then Debian though Debian is still you're choice for a server. Each distro takes on its own core optimizations and users can easily find a distro which suits them best. Why go for standardization when a specific distro makes better sense than one for all and all for one.
It's most likely one of two things; either it did do very well and they now have a larger installed fanbase on both the ps2 and xbox and they can now raise prices and everyone will see it as it can't be done, or the marketing ploy did not meet the quota they needed to ship and continue shipping so that their would be a profit or not a large enough profit to continue to be successful. Or economical logic failed and Madden pwned them any way...
Well I would buy a computer now but I have no cash, but seems like I'm gonna get a job soon. So proabably gonna be around Christmas til i can, so i could wait til Q1 05 and get something better than what'll be out in December.

I tested it, have ie7, xp sp 2 home and have anti phishing turned on, worked fine.

It actually seems to be pretty good at nailing obscure songs, even instrumental tracks.
I just started my futurama collection yesterday volume one is better than the Simpsons, season one content wise.

No more bullshitting papers at 3 o clock in the morning, guess i'll have to push it back to around midnight when I start for just that extra edge.
