It may not be as easy as this. There are numerous unknown factors when driving on the highway. Deer are a HUGE problem here in Wisconsin. Weather also would be difficult to account for and not just snow, I just witnessed a car totally lose control just because the highway was wet. Could you really program a car to react appropriately to these unforseen situations? How would a car attempt to avoid and unavoidable accident??
I would like to see more diesel engines in cars in the US. I know there are problems with emissions, but I like the better fuel economy and increased power associated with many of the TurboDiesels already dominating in Europe.
Unfortunately, emission standards are only going to get more strict in the coming years so unless the clean air technologies in diesels can keep up, we may not see many options on the market.
Here I am working in a marketing department and reading about how slashdot readers hate me. Well I'm striving to give my "kind" a better reputation by continuously reading/. and lowering my productivity greatly.
I think one of the best places to use speech recognition is in the car. There are already many devices that use this, like Onstar, but the interface is slow and buggy. If you could say "Climate Control, 70 degrees", and other commands, it would free up your hands for actually driving and lower distraction.
In addition, you would get less dash clutter and not have to rely on complicated menu navigation in things like the iDrive. Voice recognition is a great way to centralize the operation of many functions into one controller, the human voice.
At my company we recently came out with a new product (1 year old). We STILL ship the drivers for this thing on a floppy disk included in the package.
Perhaps the manufacturing industry is slow to adapt, but I remember another job were we needed to work on the machines on the factory floor and floppies were the medium of choice for transferring control programs from the office desktops to the laptops used on the floor.
I agree that WMP is a good option for video playback, but for audio I think there is nothing more straightforward and easy to use as winamp. I can simply drag my music folder into the playlist window to create an instant playlist of all my songs. If I don't want to listen to all my thousands of songs, I can use the Jump function and enqueue the files. And no search works better for me than the jump tool. It's easy to use and unobtrusive on the desktop, and all the functionality I need can be found with easy keyboard shortcuts.
It's great when throwing a party and your guests request songs.
Nuclear reations themselves don't produce electric current. The benefit of fission is that it produces large amounts of heat with small amounts of fuel. This heat is used to turn the turbines that generate electricity similar in all types of power plants. I don't know how it could realistically be used in a vehicle. Besides that, even if nuclear waste was small, it would still pose a problem.
Fusion has a similar benefit in that small amounts of fuel produce large amounts of energy. The current problem is that more energy is needed to create a controlled fusion process than is derived from the reation thus there is no benefit to creating the fusion reaction.
Something as small as a car will not likely be powered by any type of nuclear reaction, fusion or fission. Cold fusion, however, would allow us all to plug our electric vehicles in at night and suck up lots of energy for a small price and with no waste produced by the power plant.
I've played the Black and White game and in there your actions again dictated your appearence. How that appearance was reflected was a tad different though. Your temple would grow spikes if you're evil, your hand would be white and glowing if you were good, and your creature's appearance would change with his personality.
I played many hours in that game and I can't see any noticable change in my hand or temple's appearance. My creature appears slightly evil, but my point is that the glowing hero or the hero with horns in fable are the two extremes. I've tried desperately to make my hand glow a bright white in B&W and have not managed to do so. Perhaps it may also be as difficult to mold your appearance to the two extremes shown in the article. You may still be able to do a good/evil act and your appearance may not reflect that action immediately.
I'm not sure if Best Brains is drawing issue with the format. It sounds more like they are trying to protect their trademark, that is, the Mystery Science Theater 3000 name. IANAL but I remember something in a law class way back when that if you don't defend your trademark it can become publicly used like xerox.
So if they let this one go, pretty soon you'll be seeing all sorts of creative variations on MST3K in your local "adult" section.
Wow, I never thought I'd hear MST3K described as the "big corporation". At any rate I do agree that Mr. Sinus does push the limits of trademark infringement. Also, as the article alludes that MST3K is not going to court to make money, rather they are protecting the ideal of the original show. I've never seen Sinus but the article hints that it may use some more "crude" humor than MST3K used.
Heh I've seen some of the commercials promoting Philly to the young professionals. Believe it or not, they were shown at a Young Professionals of Milwaukee event. They were humorous at least.
Any city that has a full time fairy job mother will definitely attract new young talent.
Here in Milwaukee there is already some wireless connectivity available in some downtown parks . It's a technology that will continue to expand as city officials catch on.
I wonder how all this extra cost will translate into taxes? A network with hundreds of thousands of users would take some maintenance.
If you want to contact a government official with your opinions on issues, there are ways to do it. Posting hotel listings and private phone numbers is not the way to go about it.
If I were called by a coworker on my personal cell phone or received a letter at my hotel while on vacation, I would be pretty pissed as I'm sure you would. If you want to contact a government official, do it the way it's supposed to be done.
ROD was quite a suprise when I first saw it and it now ranks as one of my favorites. It has great music. I find that this usually accompanies great anime.
The aspect of anime that impresses me most is the art. The vibrant colors, smooth lines, and excrutiatingly detailed backgrounds mean that your eyes are always drawn to the screen. I find there are few anime movies that offer both good art and good story by my standards, but those that do are well worth some attention.
Some Favorites:
Cowboy Bebop,
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust,
Akira,
Lupin,
Spirited Away,
(yeah i know, these are all "common" anime, but i guess they are common for a reason.)

Any idea what the price of these would be? I am curious because I will be developing a project that may utilize a display.

Beware the hand of Manos!!
No wait.. nevermind.
So much for productivity today.

60 mph, no helmet, no protective padding on elbows/knees etc. This guy is quite the badass. Stupid maybe but still a badass.
