The basic equations are simple enough such as Lorentz contraction. I.E. L'=L*sqrt(1-v^2/c^2). However, if you want to apply relativity in the real world, things may become more difficult. You better be good with your vector skills and coordinate transformations so that you can compare the x, y, z if a "stationary" object with the x', y', z' of the "moving" object.

Then there's the question of what you OBSERVE versus what is PHYSICALLY REAL. One of my professors brings forward the idea of what he calls "doppler expansion". This is that an object moving directly toward you will actually appear LONGER than it is instead of shorter as is expected with the Lorentz contraction. I'll leave it up to you to puzzle over how that is possible.

It's true that kids can be influenced, but so can everyone. If we want to say that kids cannot be responsible for their actions, fine. Then we must hold the parents responsible. You cannot blame a game that is designed for the 18+ crowd and shouldn't even be sold to minors.

The vast majority of gamers and critics will disagree with you on the quality of the games you mentioned(The negative comments). I won't disagree that many of the nintendo games ARE fun, but Halo 1,2, GTA, and other titles for different consoles cannot be considered junk. They are hugely successful in accomplishing what they are designed to accomplish which is sell a lot of copies and make the consumer happy. Ultimately it's a question of whether you would like to design for the masses or would rather enter into a niche market. The Xbox and PS2 do a good job with the masses. Gamecube does a good job with the niche.

Then the Play Station came out and I couldn't beleive the improvements (at this time too, I was continually impressed at the PC games that were coming out too). Finally we get N64, then PS2 etc. etc.

Now when I go back and play my old games, I'm no longer impressed by the graphics. I still find some of the gameplay exiting, but I wonder what it was that was so amazing at the time. How could I have considered these games to so lifelike? That said, I can't say which are the best games of all. Old technology should not be completely ignored. Many times a new technology will come along that leads to the abandonment of current technology. However, over the years improvements in materials, design tools, etc. can lead to much more efficient designs of "old" tech.

If it's not broke, don't fix it. I like to see new technology being developed as much as anyone else, but I believe we also need to keep enough of an open mind that we do not overlook great ideas that have already been made and improve on those ideas. Old tech can easily become new tech through basic improvements in efficiency, reliability, affordability, etc.

That sounds dangerously familiar to the famous quote of Charles Duell of the US Patent Office back in 1899 (i think). "Everything that can be invented has been invented."

Now obviously there are more and more patents therefore less and less unique ideas, but the fact is things will always continue to be invented, and the world will not run out of new ideas. Also, $20K seems like a rather steep estimate of what it costs to get a patent. In reality, getting a patent is more an issue of time than money (typically 2 years). What costs more is the migration of your invention into the marketplace(manufacturing, advertising, etc.) One of the benefits of patents is their relative affordability.
