well i suppose its not that different, however i don't know how realistic it would be to have well over 2,000 people author one blog on blogger (or if thats even possible) which is entirely possible on livejournal. (see this and this). that being said the friends function of livejournal is pretty comparable to only letting some people see your blogger posts.
Exercise as much as possible, if that means running up and down stairs on your breaks then make that happen.
Drink lots of water, staying hydrated is important.
Make sure you are getting enough protein in your diet, if you aren't that could be part of what's making you so weak.
Eat organic healthy food, we all know that putting random chemicals and hormones into your body isn't always the best thing in the world. if buying all organic isn't practical try finding a co-op.
Go to a nutritionist if at all possible, they could help sort out ways to get stronger despite having ridiculous hours.
Be good to yourself, in other take time out to do fun things (like rock climbing as the parent said but that's not always feasible).
Go to a therapist; the last thing you need is to get depressed, having to be out of the house for 8 hours is hard enough when depressed 15 would be unbearable (for me when having a really depressive episode).
Although I understand your point, sex and gender are actually two diffrent things that most of the society likes to think of as one. sex is what you're born as, male, female, or intersex (yes, there are more than two sexs). Gender is a social construct that one things of themselfs as being. This means that someone can be of one sex, but have a diffrent gender. I am a rather good example of this, as a trans(gender) man my sex is female (on my ID, in every legal document that i've ever had to fill out, etc) but my gender is male.
Wierd, I have been a long time subscriber and they have never done this to me. As a matter of fact they just opened a new distro center close to me and I can easily get 3 sets of movies in two weeks if I return them the same day direct to the Post Office... I have tried Blockbuster, walmart and Netflix and Netflix had the best selection and turn around time.
I'll second that, lately they've been coming 4-5 days after I drop them off in a drop box in Manhattan (that just happens to be 5 min or so away from a very large postoffice). If I drop them off in the morning (before I go to school) USPS will pick them up around 11am and I'll receve the little "we receved your dvds" email with in two days and get the dvd with in another 2 days (normally before they project it to arive to my house). Also, I almost never drop all three of the dvds off at one time.
whome ever modded me troll, have you ever actually been to portland for more than a few days and didn't go to just NE. cause if you haven't you have no busness modding me troll. After spending 17 years of my young life living in SW portland (well actually mt. park lake oswego, but i was less than 5 min out walking distance and went to portland public schools) i can tell you, it is not a friendly place for people of color. my freshman and sophmore years in high school i went to wilson, a school of 1,600 students and we had under 50 students that were people of color (really, i should say they didn't pass for white). oh and then there is that whole neo-nazi skinhead part; read the book A Hundred Little Hitlers and you'll see just how far the racism has gone. i moved to brooklyn this past june and live with some friends of mine (yes, i'm 17, yes its a very stable living situation, and yes my mom approves - she knew that i couldn't live in portland any more). and now, after moving over 3,000 mi. away i can finally begin to work on my internalized racism which was probably made worse because i grew up in portland. i have had one teacher in portland who was a person of color in the 5 schools that i went to (i went to two high schools, one middle school, and two elementry schoos). so next time you try to talk about how poc (people of color) friendly portland is try and check with someone who lived there and is a poc first, you may just hear a diffrence in oppinion.
and if i spelled anything wrong in here i really don't give a shit - you'll all live.
Is it a town because of Starbucks or are there Starbucks because it's a town?
no its a two Starbucks town because its in oregon. remember if you search for the amount of starbucks retail stores in portland (with in 10 mi) on starbucks' site you'll get 115 results (and granted not all of them are in portland but most of them are). you might also want to know that starbucks started in seattle (three hours from portland if you're going the speed limit, but i've made it in two) and there are hundreds of non-Starbucks coffee shops in portland (and a rather healthy population of Starbucks haters too)
there are plenty of ppl in the portland metro area who have long commutes, its life - you'll just have to deal with it. it could be worse, you could be driving down to salem (the capital).
and after all of you sports minded geeks flock to portland you'll realize that there arn't an people of color, but then again, it is the nw and ya know, oregon is the northern hot bed for neo-nazi's and the KKK so why would people of color exactly want to live in portland (hell, thats one of the reasons i moved my ass out of there this past june). but rest assured, you'll have plenty of organic food, clean water, the wonderful dirty willamette river (well not if you live in the dalles but if you're in pdx then you're fine), and rain to your disposal. have fun!
Movie and game rentals are due back at the date and time stated on the transaction receipt. There is no additional charge if a member keeps a rental item beyond the pre-paid rental period. However, if a member chooses to keep a rental item more than a week after the end of the rental period, Blockbuster will automatically convert the rental to a sale on the eight (8th) day after the end of the rental period. Blockbuster will charge the membership account the selling price for the item in effect at the time of the rental. The selling price will be discounted by the amount of the initial rental fee paid by the member at the time of rental. If the member returns the item within 30 days of the sale date, Blockbuster will credit back to the membership account the amount previously charged to the member's account or the member's credit card, as applicable, for the selling price of the item, but the member will be charged a minimal restocking fee. All rental items must be returned to the proper BLOCKBUSTER® store. These rental terms are subject to change without notice at any time. Participating stores only. Additional membership rules apply for rentals. See participating BLOCKBUSTER store for details.
so i really wanted to stay out of this conversation - i didn't read the article, i didn't look at the pic. and i don't intend on doing so.
that being said, i realize that one of the very affective ways that people deal with troubling topic is by joking about them and i think that that is a very valid point. but i feel like this topic is way too serious and life threating to be joking at the frequency that it is being joked about on/. i want to compare it to joking about someone getting killed because of their race or their gender or any other thing that would amount to a hate crime in some states. i'm not going to joke about brandon tina being raped and soon after killed because he was transgender (watch the movie boys don't cry) partly because that could happen to me (and many of my friends) and also because thats just rediculiously fucked up. i realize that i am comparing child pornography to murder and i also realize that people probably have many reservations about that but think of it this way. the act that these partys are committing against children could lead to these children killing themselfs. it could (and probably will) lead to god knows how many deblitating flash backs, it could lead these children it to a very deap depression (and for those of you who have never had clinical depression or dealt closly with anyone who has it is one of the worse things imagnable (yes i know i spelled that wrong) - not being able to get up and fix food because you can't force yourself to get out of the bed is not ok and it sure as hell doesn't mean you have an eating dissorder).
just to sum this up, i understand that some people need to joke about some topics in order to deal with them, but i can't dismiss the frequency that this topic is being joked about. I hope when some story comes to/. about someone committing suicide you (/. as a whole) don't joke about it. -Adam
8 min after it gets posted Verbatim gets slashdoted...go slashdotters go!
in other news, "slashdotted" gets submited for addition to websters dictionary
While I would definitely have to say that there are some definite cultural influences that play apart in the gap between male and female students' performances I wouldn't completely rule out physical attributes. However, I be interested in knowing if testosterone plays any part in this.
Ok so I found Dylan's Blog and reading it makes me want to die (not literally).
" Wow.
THAT WAS SO FREAKING COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
O___O I WAS ON ABC NEWS! I REPRESENTED BLOGGERS AS PERSONS OF THE YEAR!!!!!! I'M TYPING IN ALL CAPS!!!!!! HOLY COW!!!!!!!!
o.o; Oh.My.God. That was soooooooooooo cool! ^____^ My sister said she felt like she was going to pee in her pants after she saw it. XD I cried a little. That was so cooooool!
And they played hide! Okay, it was the backround, and only a little, but hey.:P
Hmm, the donation difference between the US and the UK could be because most Americans that donate any amount of money donate it to religious orgs (churches, temples, etc).
hell, i never said i could spell...spelling doesn't make a person and spelling sure as hell doesn't mean i can't read and understand what is on the ballot.
See that's the problem with a lot of librals out there, they don't understand that being an ass hole doesn't make us look good (us being all of the other librals out there). Most of the reasons i can't deal with bush have already been posted but unlike some of the people on here i'm a bit to young to vote (17 i turn 18 in may). While i can do a whole lot to mobalize people i can't vote for them. I feel like i tend to not hang out with people like the ones mentioned above, who like to make a scene whenever someone goes against what ever they beleve in. Hell if i did that i'd probably be dead by now. Most of the "librals" that i'm around are like minded, at least 11 years older than me, and actually mobalize and organize when they want to win a battle, wether that be by going to/organizing a rally or lobbying at the capital in dc.
2. iTunes etc: none, that would involve me having a credit card and i don't seeing as i'm under 18
3. none
4. 85% when you have a dial-up connection for most of your middle/high school (and elementry school...not that a whole lot of people were downloading music at that point) you buy cds
5. 15%...and if you don't want to buy them you rip them from your friends:)
Its better mt. st. helens than mt. hood for all of the portland folx (i'm starting to miss living over there...damn nyc) which is much closer. and remember, seattle isn't far from tacoma and seattle is much bigger than pdx.
Most deaf people can speak, although lots prefer to use a sign language if possible.
Do you mean vocalise of speak, speak meaning saying words and what not. Cause if thats what you mean I know a whole lot of people who can't "speak", they can vocalise, yes. But speaking is a whole nother ball game. And then there are also the segment of deaf people who can speak fine and were rased oral but don't prefer using asl.
I'm not quite sure if you were responding to the quote above or the post about the house on the PSU campus so i'll just assume you were responding to the house.
In PDX you might as well flush toilets with the water you could be drinking if it comes from the rain seeing as on winter it rained gosh, 17 days in a row something like that. None the less, it rains constently in Portland most of the time and the rain is suprisingly clean, not as clean as the water we (I use to live in Portland for 17 years but just moved in June...so I still talk like I'm over there sometimes) get from Bull Run which is the cleanest water in the nation, but none the less it's pretty clean.
Ok, is anyone other than me more than a little tired of this "kids will steal anything" crap. Remember it wasn't "kids" who put Bush in office, or "kids" who made Microsoft the fiery pit of hell that it is, and I'm just going to assume that it wasn't "kids" who made Kriptonite (and a multitude of other locks) locks so easy to pick.
There are plenty of youth who don't go around stealing bikes, computers, and anything else of the sort. Just like there are plenty of POC (people of color for all of you people who don't know that accronem) who don't go out and kill, rob, or rape people. Unfortunitly the media likes to play it up like it is because that's what way too much of the US population wants to see, which just perpitulates steriotypes.
Now I'm not saying that no youth steals things, because we all know it happens, but we also know that around the corner there might be some 50 year old upperclass white guy stealing something for what ever reason. But of course, all we see on the news in I'm sure any community, no matter where you live (unless its extreamlly small and doesn't have a whole lot of accessiblity with larger citys/tones) is "Black male charged with killing his white nighbor" or something to the like. And it doesn't matter if you don't have a whole lot of POC where you live, I spent the first 17 years in Portland Or., the land of white people with a spattering of POC in N and NE Portland, I was the only POC in my neighborhood and there were 35 POC in the highschool that I went to...out of 1600 students. I saw as much s*** on the news about POC there as I do now that I'm in NYC (Brooklyn to be exact).
Ok, that was my rant for the morning...from a 17 year old black, trans guy who, for the record, hasn't smoked anything, ever.
