I think an important thing to note here is that this is GDC, and while a key word in there is "Game", another is also "Developer". This is a conference for developers, (hence the unveiling of Playstation Edge) not a replacement for E3. I think those looking for a ton of news on new Playstation games will be better served by the revamped E3 in the up and coming months.

Home looks like it'd take a lot more work than implementing GamerTags or the Mii system. Honestly I don't think this is something they could throw together in just 4 months, not with what they're promising anyway. I think that really they weren't ready to launch the system, but Microsoft forced their hand, and they had to get it out as soon as they could, feature complete or not. They were lazy, PS2 was still going strong, and they were in no rush to launch the PS3. But with Microsoft launching the 360, there was no choice.

Of course, it was their fault they were lazy, but this really doesn't seem like something they thought of after the launch.

Assuming (and I think this is more than likely) that he takes this job, he probably won't even get any more job offers (or if he does, it will be for a meager pay increase that's not worth it).

Sit there and tell me you wouldn't switch jobs for that much of a pay increase. If you honestly wouldn't, then I envy you, because your workplace environment must be something quite special.

I've always wondered, why the chunking? If anything WoW has proven it's easy to have a seamless world without zone lines (aside from travelling between continents and instancing) so why does Vanguard have chunks?

  18. Re:WoW offends precedence worse on Why Vanguard Sets a Bad Precedent for MMOGs · · Score: 1

The difference is that the remaining of WoW that DID release was rock solid and very polished. I see my friend log on to Vanguard and I don't get that feel at all.

Things that Blizzard held back and implemented later were held back until they matched the polish of the original game. When Battlegrounds came out, they were flawless, along with the newer raid dungeons and instances. Hero classes were never promised for release, and AFAIK it was more of an idea that was thrown out there on the "coming in the future" development webpage. That disappeared at least a year ago.

Honestly if Vanguard felt polished and solid with the stuff they currently had in the game I would not be complaining. The problem is when the core game feels buggy and incomplete, along with features missing, you know that there are problems, and you know that the time it'll take to fix up the core game without even considering adding fresh, new, non-buggy content, may be a lot longer than players are willing to put up with.

As far as I know, games will continue to be region free everywhere. However, you'll run into problems as demo'd with games like Motorstorm and Resistance when playing online...

Basically, the PS3 still knows where it's from. Resistance uses a system where if you have a US system, you'll be connected to US gaming servers, and I've heard Motorstorm is using the same system. Then again, that isn't a big deal for you other than slightly increased latency. However, it sucks for those who imported from Japan/HK. From what I've heard the Resistance servers are barren over there, and since the Motorstorm released in Japan didn't have online, I don't think there's much hope for that game being played on Japanese/HK PS3s either.

Sometimes it's just bad luck. There's a quest in the Ghostlands (new zone) where you need to kill Night Elf Sentinels to get a key. I must've killed 100 Night Elves before it finally dropped, my two other friends that came after me got it around their 3rd and 5th kill.

I look on the bright side though. If the alternative to a quest like that is to grind, I would rather grind with a goal to finish I quest than just mindlessly grind. Plus you get the quest experience afterwards anyway.

MGS2's story was very convoluted. I found that out of the games I've played during my lifetime, nothing has given me quite the powerful response that MGS3 has. Of course I've been a follower of the series since MGS1, so it might have been the "big picture" slowly coming into focus that did it for me, but I'm fairly sure that the MGS3 experience itself is one that rivals movies in terms of storytelling and emotional weight.
