    indymedia just scares me. The number of "jews control the world", "jews involved in worldwide conspiracy", "jews annilhate helpless palestinian children" stories makes me wonder what politics these people take part is. It certainly isn't the liberal socialism that I advocate.

    I dont know anything about wikinews, doesn't help that I didn't read the article I guess. But I do have a problem with people assuming indymedia news is liberal.., what they practice on indymedia is a strangely perverted racism. Unfortunately it's places like indymedia that perpetuate the myth that if you're a liberal, then you must hate jews.

    This is utter bullshit.

    You mean Reagan, the fairness doctrine died in 87 when "the gipper" vetoed the bill. The same legislation was by congress again under Bush Sr. but he vetoed it as well. Unfortunately in neither instance were there enough votes to override the veto.

    Sorry but the fact you're trying to raise is irrelevant. It's a meaningless point to overwhelming majority of citizens that reside in the united states. The countries that exist within the continent of Africa might as well be states within a larger federation, like their own. "Americans" _want_ to believe all other entities within the known universe emulate their system of reason and function. Please dont try to change that.

    look at the stats, most people visiting slashdot.org use Internet Explorer... the numbers prove this as a fact. Yet most of these people rail against the evils of Microsoft and the endless exploits for IE. Sure they can say "I'm using useragent disguiser!" or "i'm using a computer at work."

    I say bullshit. Most of the people on slashdot are hypocrits and willing to put their employers networks in an extreme security risk because they're lazy and unmotivated assholes.

    Does this suprise anybody ? It shouldn't. There are better web forums than slashdot these days, first time I've visited in two weeks. This site doesn't deserve as many hits as it gets, but tv shows like "Fear Factor" and "The Swan" dont deserve as many viewers either...

    I guess people enjoy the enquirer like status that slashdot has.... pathetic.

    We're talking about americans, they're worthless to begin with. Should it come as any surprise that the information highway gives them a sense of empowerment ? It shouldn't. Just feed these people a plate of self-esteem in a pill called Prozac and they'll feel better about their sorry lives.

    I just spent a month up north fishing Georgian Bay with my brother. We didn't bring cell phones, pagers, laptops, nadda, zip. Did either of us experience withdrawal symptoms ? No. Personally, I didn't even think of a computer till the third week and that was only for a fleeting moment.

    My original comment was not insightful either. But judging by the positive moderation it received (when it should have been modded a troll,) says something about the way people are feeling about slashdot. I hope Malda & his crew are observing people's emotions, this sort of thing should be a wake up call for them to get into action...

    That wont happen though, they're waiting for the open source community to fix things for them, IMHO.. just my opinion (and if I'm not mistaken, someone did write css-compliant-slashdot code, maybe a year ago or so... maybe someone can pull that article up if its handy? )

    Have you ever come in contact with Rob Malda and his gang before ? I met Rob and some of his crew at linux world expo in '99. Lets just say I was not impressed. The slashdot idea was great for it's time, but Malda & the gang dont have the ethic or the motivation to do anything useful. These guys are a like a one-hit-wonder from the eighties... the only reason we hear about them is due to all the wonderful people supporting them. If it weren't for them, Malda & the Gang just dont have the staying power or work ethic to make things right.

    Now mod me down for flaming the slashdot gods.

    Serious folks, this thing has been problems from its inception. We have better things to spend our money on, like bombing brown people all over the world. Guess the average slashdotter has no idea how much tomahawk cruise missiles and b-2 bombers cost.

    What has the space station brought except painful stories of human error and flawed performance ? Thats not the kind of information we need to be feeding the red states during these critical times.

    What we need right now is a win for the home team. You may not believe it, but inside of every Iraqi is an decent Christian American trying to escape. Lets hasten that process instead of wasting our precious resources on floating space garbage.

    Hrm... true, that can be a problem for some. Maybe one solutio, although it can be quite a bit of work. Coverup all the walls with 1" drywall. That should deaden any sound from the outside environment. I know of one person that installed two layers of 1" drywall to isolate the room. It's heavy and hard to work with but it's really good stuff.

    Luckily I live on the 27th floor, not much noise up here except 747's...
