"...no discernible difference in time go 60 as I can going 70."
Good Show!
I'm surprised that it took this long for someone to point this out.
Here on/. you will find a gazillion would be engineers trying to show all the math for all kinds of hair-brained stuff (ie: calculating the 'bandwidth' of a stationwagon full of data cd's), but will not put the math to the difference in mph's for a daily commute.
I suspect it's to keep their heads in the sand so they don't feel like an idiot for their justification of driving over the speed limit because they're in a hurry.
Do the math, folks! That 10-15 mph over the speed limit across town saves you SECONDS, not minutes.
First off, for this discussion keep these three things in mind:
1. History seems to repeat itself.
2. As an intelligent, rational, thinking, sentient species, we understand cause and effect and learn from our mistakes (debatable-see #1 above).
3. "A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step."
Historically we see too many examples of a "National I.D." system being abused by government to control it's own population as the primary focus after having been sold as a 'protect us from our outside enemies' measure to the population.
Add in our (USA's) major focus at our comparitively recent founding of freedom, liberty, and pursuit of happiness and our percieved rights and freedoms as individuals, and our deep-rooted distrust of a strong central authority.
Now add in the 'mark of the beast' religious aspect into the mix.
Put this together and you have the stereotypical, generic U.S.American's attitude.
Now at the risk of Godwin's Law:
*scene unfolds in 1944 Germany: man in black uniform with the twin lightningbolt insignia and the Death's Head emblem arrogantly confronts a small group of pedestrians*
SS officer: "I will examine your papers now, please"
I love these studies by ignorant assholes that have never been even close to the subject matter. This has been a "subject matter" since society has been able to define the problem.....nothing new to see here for the past 12 centuries...Yes, you have outsmarted yourself beyond redemption...jack-off and cut your own carotid....it's the only way to redeem yourself!
I agree. Anytime I hit a page like that, I look for the "printer friendly" version.
No printer friendly version....I move on somewhere else.
I suppose I could also try the 'repagination' extension for Firefox, but I never find myself that interested- easier most times to just search Google for a different source of the same info- if not, move one.
I also agree- with both of you. But simply agreeing with someone isn't usually the best (or even good) reason for giving mod points. I've been guilty of it myself, that's why this one got my attention.
Honestly not trying to pick a fight here! As I said, I happen to agree with both of you.
Also, I stand better informed now: it would seem his 150 million is about right, as several replies have cited about the same number from several sources.
2 ea 8086's, 4 ea 8088's, 1 ea 386, 3 ea 486's ( one is even a DX!!!!), 1 ea cyrix 5x86 133, 2 ea p75's, 3 ea p133's, 2 ea p166's, 2 ea pII 266's, and the MASTER: 1 ea pIII slot 1 500....all rolled into one.
I have Caldera OpenLinux Base 1.1 installed on all, with Sun's Distributed Computing software, and I STILL can't get WoW or City of Heroes to run....guess I need to go RTFM AGAIN!!!
Don't use modpoints to 'further your opinion', they are meant to further increase CONSTRUCTIVE discussion, not as a means to 'slap down your opponents'.
As a side note, I happen to basically agree with both you and Kreplock, however my uneasy feeling has a root in the 150 million statistic without citing any sources. I do not question the accuracy of that number (not the issue for my concern here) Kreplock uses, only the fact that no sources were offered + your ability to 'jump on the bandwagon' with modpoints without ANY objective viewpoint for the discussion.
When (if!) you actually get modpoints to 'play' with, read the moderator's guidelines....an obvious link to these will be provided to you if you ever get the mod points.
If you've already been granted modpoints, then DO check out that moderator's guidelines link that is displayed when you click on that 'You have Moderator Points' link.
P.S. Kreplock...you just got in the crossfire- sorry!:)
narzy...modpoints aren't WMD, they're meant to further reasonable discussion, not as 'smack down' device.
5. "Windows Home Server is a new version of the Windows OS that lets users set up secure networks of PCs at home..." Secure, MS? hahahahaohohohheeheehee
1,3,and 4 can all be done easier with *nix, 2 is to be avoided at all costs.
Just another pie in the sky money grab attempt by MS. If you don't drink their koolaide, there's nothing to see here, move along.
Good point.
She calls in bomb scare, costs legit company 2mill, and two guys doing legit work get stuffed in the can.
Why is she not in jail also?
Are we invading Normandy AGAIN??
Why? I know the French didn't jump on our Iraq plan, but isn't this a bit extreme?

Thanks for pointing that out good sir!
Band-Aids worked for me, so what's your point again?
Hey! I've got some GREAT beachfront property here in Oklahoma you may be interested in!
You're either the most subtle comedian I've encountered, or the most naive person posting on this thread.
Thanks for the good laugh- I needed it!

"No Dave, I do not think I can do that."
Better make it a probe with A.D. (Artificial Dumbass) instead.
Is that a 'Hundred Million Mile Pipe Organ' in yer pocket, or are ya just glad to see me?
Now that we have tactical info, we can nuke it from orbit...only way to be sure.
