Dude, you've obviously never blue boxed. To quote the movie, "..There are ways around that." You don't need to physicly press down the hookswitch if your 'boxin. A machine capable of generating a 2600hz tone is all you need.
And remind me, how does that apply to working musicians that burn CD-r's of their own music to sell? Why should they pay a tax to the major record labels that won't sign them? Talk about getting both ends of the shaft.
Can you sight a source for that? I'm not asking to be a dick or anything, but because I'd like to mention that tastey fact in any future conversations on the subject myself. I just want to make sure it's true before I do.
You've have tried to run the file CelineDionNaked.jpg.pif, this may not be a legitimate application. Choose Run to run the file, Delete to delete the file, and Update to convert to a Windows XP icon.'
Even if that file was a legitimate image, the damage done to my soul would be far worse than any virus could do to my computer.
Anything you can recover from those old discs (or 9-track tapes if you find a reader) might be very usefull. There are still a lot of holes that we haven't quite filled yet.
SuperQ isn't supported yet, but it's high on the priority list I believe. At the current rate of development I think we'll have it up and running in a month or two. (knock on wood).
I was never big into the whole SuperQ think myself. I spent maybe 99% of my time in Club Caribe (like a lot of other serious losers did).
You really should take a picture of that stuff and send it to me. We are always looking for old Q-link shwag. I even scanned in some old Q-Link BRC's and we had them printed out at this months SWRAP Expo.
I've been involved in the beta testing of the server for the past month so I know what kind of questions everybody has (since I've been asking most of them myself already).
Q: Will/Does the implantation support Super-Q, Rabbit Jacks Casino, Club Caribe, etc?
A: Right now, only the basic (Q-link 4.0) games work such as Hangman, Battleship, Chess, etc.. Since the hard part (the q-link & x.25 pad stuff) has been pretty much conquered, the rest of the lot should come with time. The only real exception to that rule is Club Caribe--it's not impossible that it can be supported, but it certainly is the hardest thing to implement and also last on the developers' list. Rabbit Jack Casino is on the top of that list I think. One of the developers has gotten Puzzler to work (part of super Q) but only independently since the server itself doesn't support Super-Q....but progress is being made.
Q: How many users does the system support? (Since the old service ran on a Stratus 200 with 8 12Mhz 68010's)
A: Well, we'll see after the slashdoting I suppose. I should be able to handle much more on modern hardware. Keep in mind when you automatically join the People Connection you are dumped into the lobby--the Lobby supports (as all rooms in the PC) up to 23 users, and when the limit is reached it creates a new lobby and dumps new users into it.
Q: What works so far? What works and what will cause the client to freeze?
A: Pretty much all of the People connection (that includes email, IM's, panels, and games that don't require super-q or cc), The Commodore Connection (only one download is available right now for testing), Customer Service (message boards are at about 90%). Most of the other areas 'work' but haven't been populated with content yet. Any old timer Q-linkers that may have saved stuff from these areas are encouraged to help us out. Oh yah, the "Let Q-Link pick my partners" when starting a game option will most certainly freeze your client.
Q: Does it work under Linux?
A: Sure does, although it's a bit more involved that doing it through Windows with our specially patched Winvice 1.6, or even just running TCPserve and connecting with a real C64/C128 via a RS232 adapter and null-modem cable. If your using Mac OS X (Like I am) your kind of screwed though.. unless you have the genius to compile the latest Vice with RS232 emulation for Mac OS X. Otherwise, the site has all of the tools you'll need, assuming it doesn't get Slashdoted.
Q: Got a mirror? (In case the main site get's slashdotted)
A: Sort of. http://www.circleofthunder.com/downloads.html I have the Q-link v4 disk up there along with some extra goodies (games discs 1/2 + CC & Super-Q). I don't have the patched version of WinVICE 1.6 though.
Those are the biggies I can think of off the top of my head. If you have anymore questions (not spelling or grammar related), post em here.
I'm going to have to disagree with you on this. As a flash developer, I might spend the morning throwing-up after reading this news. Mergers are NEVER good, the customers always get screwed in the quest for more profit. I certainly don't think that Macromedia's software is any more buggy than Adobe's offerings, and with a lack of competition from the the two design software giants there will only be stagnation -- and stagnation will lead to users abandoning the software.
The only thing that could have been worse news this morning would have been that Microsoft (shudders) purchased BOTH Adobe and Macromedia.
The mac mini HAS to be as serious turning point. Finally, you can buy an economy mac without paying for redundant hardware you most likely have (monitor, ram, hard drives). It's as close as you can get to being able to buy a PPC motherboard, G4 CPU, copy of OSX, and do with it as you please. I got my mini last week and was pretty much able to take all of my old PC hardware and shuffle it over to the mini thanks to a USB 2.0 HD enclosure, spare ram, exisiting monitor and USB mouse.
I've been one of those fence riders for a long while about buying a mac, but damnit, now there is no reason not to. If you were like me and liked Linux for the *NIX'ness, but also wanted mainstream apps like Photoshop, etc with a GUI that beats the snot out of Windows, get one of these mini's. It's the best of both worlds. You can be a geek with a crapload of terminals open and still be chic.
I hate to play devils advocate to something that is used to annoy the crap out of everyone, but unfortunatly layers are used a lot for things that improve the web experience. Drop down navigation is a good example, as well as those layered calanders that come up on airline sites to help you find the days you want to find.
You know, the way I deal with it is to just bloody turn off javascript unless the site I'm at won't function without it. Same with the flash plugin.
"When you say Dylan, he thinks your talking about Dylan Thomas...whoever he was. The man ain't got no culture"
Oh Paul Simon.. remember when you were cool? You know -- before you started letting Chevy Chase hang out in your music videos while you played a keytar?
If you want to install Cydoor, by all means try this beta. If you'd rather not install not spyware, stay away from this one folks.
The./ editors should have included this in the article summary before they posted this one. Now Cydoor just got a bunch of new sucke^H^H^H^H^Hcustomers.
Ya know, I got a bad feeling we're about to see a dog with sunglasses riding a skateboard rapping about sting theory.
Seriously, don't "jazz up" physics. Those that have an aptitude for it will be drawn towards it in the first place, and those that aren't interested in it obviously shouldn't.
Besides, us nerds know that Physics is cool. Cool like absolute zero mang!
An old study by the British Empire in China regarding the patterns of opium consumption revealed that China's opium use largely paralleled Britain's alcohol use.
Yes, but in all fairness that report was most likely tailored to make opium not look so bad considering the British were using opium at the time to control China.
That's the most horrible thing I've ever read. I believe I'll never know joy again.
I assure you sir, there is nothing deep or complex to be found in Britney Spears' music, no matter how much it is listened to.
100:1 On an Al Gore Joke
6000:1 On a "Kahhhhhhhn!" Posting
Anybody want to post over/unders for number of posts on above subjects?
So much cliche fodder in one article.

A lot has happened in 16 years and this little 'baby' has grown into quite the teenager.
And like most teenagers, it's preoccupied with pornography.
That is the nerdiest thing I've ever read. And this is slashdot.
Bravo sir, bravo.
House of Duras.. Jesus.
You can also eat 3 times a day for $5 a week if the food is ramen noodles.
I'm getting tired of ramen noodles.

Anybody know anything about this particular judge or any of his past rulings? If he's a Bush appointee I have to make a call to my bookie.

"I guess we should all start saving our PENISES now.".
Wow, technology IS coming a long way.

I've been down with MC Hawking since his first smash hit, "E=MC Stephen Hawking".
Thanks for posting that link, I totaly forgot the theory of no absolute rhyme.

they are even proposing a new image format; StuffIt Image Format (SIF).
Gee, I wonder where you could license that format?
Man, they could have been a little bit more covert about their intentions and named it something a little less, umm, obvious.
The current formats might not be perfect, but at least they are (relativly) free.
