Amazon need to add a rating system for service/delivery etc for the morons who don't understand the purpose of the rating system that exists but who also need an outlet to complain about their experience.
Agreed. I find this is quite common on Amazon. Not sure why people think that shipping issues should be included in a product review. Perhaps they think that Amazon product reviews are the same thing as ebay feedback.
I have trouble sleeping with a shirt on. I tend to move around at night and end up getting a shirt-wedgie if I wear one.
Also, I get warm at night. According to my wife I become "the temperature of a thousand suns." I don't see adding layers of clothing as helpful to my ability to sleep "normal."
I do wonder if they still base all of these decisions on Nielsen ratings alone. Seems pretty silly these days to use that antiquated system. I would hope they factor in things like TIVO data, cable OnDemand data, channel website episode views, Hulu, etc...
Better Off Ted was one of three shows I'd turn on ABC for (the others being Castle and Wipeout).
IANASTN, but here's my angle: phasers are something that the Borg encountered often enough to warrant an adaptation, but slugthrowers are something so ancient the Borg don't even remember them, therefore saw no reason to ever adapt to it. If Picard was slower to pick them off, they might have, eventually. Also, I recall that the phasers are not full-time weapons, but multipurpose tools that can cut, weld, heat, stun, kill, etc. Typical jack-of-all-trades, acceptable in all, great in none. Our guns, however, have one purpose: to kill. And being the single-minded things they are, they perform this task admirably.
Two excellent points. I'd add that perhaps the Borg Shields aren't designed for slower, physical projectiles. Similar to how Goa'uld personal shields block bullets and energy weapons but not knives and arrows. Similarly the personal shields in Dune can block a blast or fast knife strike, but not a slower moving one.
I'd also add to your list of other phaser uses that the phaser has a stun setting. To my knowledge, guns do not.
It's actually a good question. Most of the twitpics I've seen are terribly shot, blurry messes. I don't see where these would be of value to anyone unless they were making a "how to take bad pictures" textbook.
I seem to be the only person who doesn't have this problem with the iPhone. Rarely does the predictive typing feature mess up a word for me and when it does, it's because the word I'm entering isn't really a word (proper name, tech jargon, etc...).
I wish the Mail app in OS X had predictive typing.
science fiction is not just about space operas and space battles. There are many sub genres within science fiction: alternate reality, alternate history, cyber-punk, bio-punk, etc...just to name a few...
I loved the first few seasons of Sliders (before the cro-mag crap). I think alternate reality and alternate history is a vastly undeveloped subset of Sci-Fi.
I keep hearing that SGU was disappointing for many SG fans but I really have to disagree. This is the first SG series that felt like it was written without the cheesy humor and contained real characters, not simple stereotypes that didn't evolve in the series. Atlantis was good but really just a copy of SG with new faces in the same characters.
That's why people say it wasn't Stargate. They took the concept and took out the parts that people liked, such as the cheesy humor and interactions with other species and humans in the galaxy, and replaced it with petty bickering between characters, consciousness swaps during sex and other crap you'd expect from a Sci-Fi version of Jersey Shore. It wasn't Stargate.
It's like the Daniel Craig Bond movies. They took out everything that made it Bond to many people, the womanizing, the cheesy one-liners, and the gadgets. The only reason they used the Bond name was to bring people in fans. But they were rebooting the series, instead of continuing the old line of movies.
If they wanted to do this style in SGU then they should have done a reboot instead of a continuation in the same universe.
I've seen all of SG-1 and Atlantis, but SGU was unwatchable to me because they tried to make it this cheap tawdry show about shall people trying to literally and figuratively screw each other over.
I went to a religious school which had no problem teaching the theory of evolution in science class AND teaching the Adam and Eve/Genesis thing in religious classes (of course we spend most of our time in religious classes colouring stuff in and generally mucking around, while we go to do experiments and other fun stuff in science lass). Why cant they just do this in Texas?
Why should they do this? If you want your kids taught religion in school, send them to a religious school. The kids in this country are already behind in science as compared to the rest of the industrialized world. Now you want to take more time away from science to teach superstition?
I've got over 800 CDs - some as old as 35 years and still they work just fine.
First, There are no 35 year old CDs. The technology was first introduced in the fall of 1976 by Sony. So I'm going to call bullshit on your 35 year old CD claim.
Hey, check this out:
2011 - 1976 = 35
Oh my god!
Okay, I'll be more specific. April 2011 - September 1976 = 34 years 7 months.
Also, 1976 was just a product demo, not a commercial release. The first commercial release of an album on CD wasn't until October of 1982 in Japan.
Not sure what your issue is, I've got over 700 DVDs and not a one of them has read errors. I've got over 800 CDs - some as old as 35 years and still they work just fine.
Blu-Ray - points against #1 - They assume we're pirates and thieves - they sure aren't getting my money. #2 - They require internet connectivity, or waiting weeks to get firmware updates to watch the latest releases - no thanks - not giving away that kind of info to watch a movie. #3 - It was developed by Sony - I don't give Sony any money - ever. The only Sony music or movies in my collection were bought by friends and family as gifts - I don't / won't purchase any or pay money to see their shit in the theaters.

Second, I do agree that this is probably an issue limited to the OP. I started buying CDs around 1994 and DVD in 1999. I still have those discs and all still work fine. My guess is the OP needs to replace/clean his DVD player. Or possibly check to see how scratched up the discs are.
Except for focus and depth of field -- if 3D movies were to *really* be indistinguishable for the 3D world our eyes are used to, we'd be able to focus on elements in the background or foreground. The headaches in 3D movies are because the director is dragging our lenses' focus around against our will, something we're not accustomed to.
I wish I had mod points for you. This is exactly my problem with "3D" movies.
Also I wonder if anyone has done a study to see if there is any correlation between people that get headaches watching "3D" movies and people who can see those "Magic Eye" http://www.magiceye.com/ images. I can see them and "3D" movies give me headaches. My wife can't see them and is fine at "3D" movies. I'd be curious to see if the numbers skewed one way or another.
Sadly I'm pretty sure Wash is dead and won't be coming back.
Simply because everyone has moved on to other projects (Castle, V, Chuck, etc...). If they could convince everyone to comeback and work on it, Wash would be back too. It's not like Farscape, where the movie picked up right where the series left off. There could be the potential for many seasons of shows to fit between the last scene of Firefly and the opening scene of Serenity.
I've been to Tennessee. I'm amazed any kids go to public schools. I would have thought they all go to religious schools associated with all the mega-churches they have. Seriously, such a waste. They have these HUGE churches that must have cost tens of millions of dollars and then they have one of the worst poverty rates in the country.

Bravo. *slow-clap*
Bad ratings.
I bet you were expecting a more complex answer.
And if they added this to Picasa, I'd finally have an easy way to sort my porn collection.
I miss Better Off Ted. Why do good shows get cancelled?
Name's Ash. Housewares.

And I don't mean a list of great ideas. This will be on one of those "top 10 stupid Internet ideas" lists.
And the story right after it will be "When will people start using IPv6?"
There are FOUR LIGHTS!

Why would you need to use mobile apps before you get to the bathroom? I know that's where my mobile app use starts.
I want something to translate cat. Then I can finally find out why the little bastards are peeing right in front of the box instead of in it.

You mean when the machines blot out the sun to deprive us of solar power?
Wait, isn't that backwards? I'm confused.
Like when we run out of sun. That thing isn't going to be around forever. When are politicians going to address the issue of Peak Sunlight?
Sure it's all great now, but what happens when we run out of sunlight?
