It was raining outside so most of the kids jumped at the chance to go to watch tv instead of staying in the gym for indoor recess. My friends and I had seen a bunch of launches, and didn't really care to see another one, even though Christa was a local hometown hero for us, being in New England.
The kids ran into the gym to tell us, but no one believed them. That was the first time I can remember seeing an adult cry when they made the whole school announcement.
I've heard many of these rumors - It's nice that the anniversary is getting some play, every year it seems more forgotton. Sunday at 8 as well there's a Christa McCauliff documenary on CNN that some students made, that's apparently pretty good.
I read the article completely - it was a misunderstanding on my part, not a lack of reading through. You shouldn't assume that even slashdot posters are perfect!:)
I had no interest in the PSP until my friend brought one over last night.
Minutes later we were on our way to Target and bought 7 of the last 8 that they had. There were a bunch left at the Costco next door though. Best Buy was sold out -- maybe they just didn't know where to get them!
Is it sad that the first thing I thought of when I read this article wasn't outrage at George screwing up again, but that the date is wrong (May 19th, not 15th)?
You've got to be joking/trolling.
How dare someone have a public opinion? OH NO!
I just love when people blame Blogs for stuff like this, instead of realizing that they don't have to respect people's feelings. Instead, we get a great venue where people can publically stand up and let others know what they think of things, like this man did.
I for one found it informative, especially as someone who fights the expansion of.Net due to it's many issues whenever i can.
I'm not so sure you're dead on with the money part - I know that LiveJournal has a large portion of their accounts (large for me, anyways) that are paying accounts, and with blog platforms like Moveable Type you have to pay to get any of the good features.
Perhaps if more companies starte delivering easy to use blogging interfaces for the average user they won't be able to charge, but for now they're making a decent bit of change.
yes, people's money is their own to spend.
but come on. i at least hope that they spent more on tsunami donations, or donations to other local community service projects, than they donated to this ad.
and some people wonder why the world views americans as selfish and foolish with their money.
It's nice to see progress and innovation. It seems that even with the new age space race, there just isn't excitement in this country about what's next, what else, and what now, except as it pertains to Medicine.
That's very true - but it's another step into space that I believe we have to take before we go even further. One foot in front of the other kind of thing.
You've got to be joking.
Space exploration holds not only the future for our species (Earth isn't always going to be habitiable for us, especially the way we're treating it), but endless possibilities of discovery.
Isolation never has done anyone any good, and that counts for staying planetside as well.
We could easily fund social programs like you're talking about if everyone actually got up and contributed more to the communities that they live in. When was the last time you were at your local elemenary school dropping off supplies, or handing out food to the homeless?
Yeah. We shouldn't shut down businesses conducting illegal activities until after they've failed their appeals several times.
Besides being unnessisarily sarcastic, you're missing the point and going off on a tangent that's based on incorrect information. There's no law against what he does - it's nothing ILLEGAL. It's 10 people saying, "We think this is wrong". If 10 people can effectively shut people off from speaking their mind at any given time, that's an imbalance, and again - a useless system.
They'd send the emails first, and -then- blackmail.
This way they leave the victims with proof. Dumbasses.
But honestly, I agree with the getting rid of SMTP comment. But something better would have to be developed and become a proven technology before it even started to go anywhere, and I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Love him or hate him, Howard has a huge (and contrary to what someone else said, educated) audience. He is just as brilliant at times as he is moronic, just as insightful as he is disgusting. This morning wasn't one of those times.
The issue, which he has more eloquently explained so many times before, is twofold; there is little to nothing, besides the famous 7 dirty words document, that actually defines what is indecent, and there is no effective way to combat fines and charges levied against someone who is judged indecent.
Personally, I find the damn Wiggles indecent. But that doesn't mean they are. It does feel that the current board of the FCC is pushing this type of indiscretionary judgment on broadcasters ever since Janet whipped a boob out. The issue is getting out of control, truly, and even though Howard is trying to do something, this morning wasn't one of his finest uses of an opportunity. -
I'm a rather large Howard Stern fan myself, but I must agree with you. Howard is much more elequent than he showed with yesterday's confrontation, and he lost sight of the issues by simply jumping on the wrong ones when he had the chance to finally talk to him.
It's dissapointing that what could have been an intelligent debate on the first amendment turned into a great big "YOU SUCK" from Howard. Michael Powell came off very well.
Exactly, which makes the whole system suspect, as well as damaging to the first amendment. If you can't, without completely ceasing your buisness operations, fight what you believe is an unjust claim, it's a useless system.

In the movie, Simon specifically says she's seventeen.

It was posted way before 3AM, FYI. I submitted it as soon as the posting was put on the NOAA site.
I wasn't copying, I was paraphrasing with the wrong understanding. :) Thanks for the clarification :)
I'm full out calling in sick, so count me in as one of those people. :P
It's a 'planned' sick day though, in that I already told my bosses I'd be out

Those quick editors - it's fixed now.

Steve is usually a touchy feely type guy, i'm surprised that there's not anything on the Apple site about it, however small.

What happens when the robot that vaccums your floor sucks up your cockroach robot? Do they fight to the death?

I'm not sure why so many people are always so eager to bash the iPod. It has a removable battery as well.
That being said, I like that it comes in colors, although I don't like the colors it comes in.

mmmmmm, i love the smell of uneducated replies in the face of reason in the morning!
