Everquest has held conventions for years at about an annual rate. Sony has never reached the population or subscriber base that WoW has and yet they were able to hold "Fan Faires" for their players quite often. The players loved it and it brought the community even closer together for those that could make the events. Sponsors helped out, but it wasn't about making money. It was about creating more interest in the already addictive game. In other words, nothing BAD comes out of holding one of these.
If the only excuse the Blizzard employees can come up with deals with loss of development time and "how much work it is! omg!", then that's a very arrogant, non-creative, and ignorant response. Blizzard makes so much money from WoW, that the cost of an annual convention would probably cost less than their booth at E3. They should hire some people to put the convention together so they "don't waste time developing" and let these people take care of everything. A convention means more media attention, more community building, and provides the players with face to face discussions from the people they worship with their $15 a month.
There are too many people that play WoW to just ignore the demand for a convention. Will they quit because of a lack of conventions? Of course not, but they and their friends may play a few extra months because of it.
With the content coming out of 1up and The Escapist and the shear number of reviews coming out of all the other gaming sites, it's a wonder that any of the print magazines still exist. I can understand if the gamer has no computer to read the online resources though; that's got to be the bulk of all the information they recieve of games. Of course, who could possibly resist buying something shiny?!
The inquirer has been wrong about what their sources say quite a few times, so until someone with more creditials shows that Newscorp has stakes it's flag in the ground of IGN declaring ownership, I'll file this in the rumor bin.
Worked out pretty well for the characters in Waterworld; even the gas prices were comparable to today! And we all know who the mayor would be. Hint, starts with a "K" and ends with a "evin Costner".
For those of you on phones, here is the text version, with all its scrolly-goodness. Also, click there if you cannot find the "Next" button on the page.
I don't think it has anything to do with Flash. Looks like some pictures in a table, and they just DHTML/CSS the text over the correct area of the images.
There's a PDF download. That should allow you and your enormous amounts of screen-real-estate to roam free.

I agree that people buying the phones won't be buying them to play N-Gage games, that's common sense as they would just buy an N-Gage itself.
But, imagine if your DVD player broke down every 2-3 years and you go out to get a new one. Now your new DVD player just so happens to be able to play PS2 games or any other consol game plaform's games. Would you go out and grab a game to see how it plays? Because it's something new and innovative? Because it's simply a new feature that's freakin cool? I think so.

The Escapist is created and published by the Themis Group (http://www.themis-group.com/ which has an office in Durham, NC.
Henry Maxwell Steele ( http://www.lib.utk.edu/refs/tnauthors/authors/stee le-m.html ) lives in Chapel Hill, NC, which is close enough to Durham to be considered "hugging" it.

Yeah, if by "Mom" you mean "an apparent group of professional writers", and by "Basement" you mean "the internet".
In a certain way, she has a very good point. Who actually deemed the term "gamer" should apply to the most arguably elite gamers?
Another thing to consider is that she may be jealous and is attempting to become one of the elite by citing other sources of her "hardcoreness".
Even with this one article that's quoted, most of the other articles are just as interesting. Most notably are Jennifer Buckendorff's "Gamer Like Me" and Tycho Brahe's "The Mainstream is Coming".
Good call on Jessica Mulligan becoming an export to France, since Nevrax announced her shipping manifest today. Should we proclaim today a holiday for the US, or the beginning of another Dark Age for Europe?
On a side note, I love your work with IGN, Rosethorn!:)

Since Themis also does support for Ryzom and I play, I stole the ear of one of their GMs to ask about it. I was told that they hadn't heard anything recently about Wish and that they don't think Themis worked with the Wish people anymore.
If this is the case, then whomever took over after Themis left Wish was the downfall. So, anyone know who was in charge after Themis?
Agreed, but no portable gaming system has come close to the portability of the N-Gage's game chips.
If you didn't know, they are about 1/4 the size of a credit card. You're more likely to use one as a Listerine Pocket Pack strip instead of ruining it in your pocket.
Been playing the game since it opened up, and it's the most beatiful game I've ever seen. EVER. The gameplay is completely orginal from any other MMORPG, this is one of the best MMOs coming out throughout the world.

Which do you think they are REALLY stress testing? The server load, or the amount of crap we will take to play the game?

Maybe I'll be able to keep the bandwidth-sharing spyware after all! A remix on Madonna's "Like a Virgin" is definetly worth it...

"Next" button at bottom of the screen.
Wrong link, apparently the text version only does one article instead of the entire issue /rollseyes
Here ya go for varney's article: Linkage
Linkage for the text-only version for SMS/people-with-a-800x600-resolution/aversion-for- the-current-design/people-who-like-scrolling.
"Next" button at bottom of screen...
