    Have you visited the steampowered.com forums? I'm sure if BF2 used a steam-styled patching method we'd have a whole lot more people complaining than what we have now...

    Personally I play BF2 online most days and it is a lot of fun. However, that's possibly because I play on a couple private servers - when I do join public ones (usually to get my rank up) the quality of play does go down significantly. It's extremely hard to find a server with anyone that uses a mic, it seems.

    I think you're generalising a lot here. There are some very professional mods that aren't just for hardcore "dorks". Natural Selection for HL is one of my favourites, and Alien Swarm for UT2004 is another very well done mod. Hell - look at Counter-Strike. Not to say that most mods never make it. You're comment "most mod teams come up with grand ideas, get = ~10% finished..." is dead on the mark.

    and that's the exact problem of high real estate prices. it's the base of the economy (the people with one or less houses) that really suffer.

    Seems a little strange, but it's probably because of the massive amounts of traffic Slashdot gets.
