Except that we specifically need separate test data from the training data. Otherwise you 'overfit' the training data.
When your algorithm decides who goes to jail... the training data is now just a reflection of the algorithm. It's difficult to determine where the training data ends and the algorithm begins.
If only people named "John" is arrested for murder and 100% of murder convictions become named "John", suddenly there is a strong signal that only people named "John" should be investigated. Rinse and repeat.
They had intentionally made a system that had NO automated method of making an emergency stop,
Somewhere in an alternate universe your hypocritical clone is complaining that an automated vehicle stopped suddenly and resulted in an inattentive motorcyclist rear ending the vehicle and dying.
They had an automated method of making an emergency stop. It was the brake pedal and a human brain. Currently that's the most robust method with presumably the best false positive\negative ratio.
They did the right thing. False positives of slamming on the brakes isn't safe for other drivers. Extreme\dangerous reactions should only be initiated by a safety driver until the false-positive rate is confirmed to be lower than the safety driver's false negative rate.
If she was sober she might have looked both ways before crossing a street or noted that an oncoming vehicle wasn't slowing to avoid her. If I was crossing the street at night sober and a car wasn't stopping for me I would stop and let it pass and then proceed once it was safe.
Because youâ(TM)re a dishonest troll, for everyone elseâ(TM)s benefit here is what the Tesla website actually says without digging into hidden sub sub sub pages on autopilot:
Autopilot advanced safety and convenience features are designed to assist you with the most burdensome parts of driving. Model S comes standard with advanced hardware capable of providing Enhanced Autopilot features today, and full self-driving capabilities in the future.
Every new Model S comes standard with advanced hardware capable of providing Enhanced Autopilot features today, and full self-driving capabilities in the futureâ"through software updates designed to improve functionality over time.
For thousands of years humans have thought that singing and dancing would change the weather. I don't think our human brains are intrinsically good at cause and effect. The most common phrase on Slashdot is Correlation != Causation. It's hardly a unique problem to deep learning.
I have used the Xbox streaming feature this week to great effect. My wife needed to use my computer so I just streamed my Xbox to my Surface. I didn't notice any latency issues. Sure the Surface's 13" screen is a tiny fraction of the size of my 75" TV but it was big enough.
I really like the idea though of playing a game like Battletech on a tablet in a chair. I can do that on a surface but if you only have an ipad that would be a nice feature to have.
The problem is that GNU elbowed its way into a lot of areas of the Operating System that its maintainers allowed but didn't really agree with. It was just more convenient to take over something that wasn't at 0% complete and run with it while the maintainers and contributors largely disagreed with GNU philosophy.
If Stallman had put his foot down and insisted it was called GNU\Linux then many of the "GNU" contributors and leaders would have just forked the projects.
How many people that have contributed to all of the components in Linux even knew that the FSF was the "owner" of the project? And what does it even mean for an open source project to be GNU or not? GNOME is the perfect example.
As a community we (or honestly Ubuntu) could if they were so inclined fork most of the GNU projects and then call it UBUNTU\Linux. Would they then be "stealing" credit? Lots of people want to contribute code, not everyone subscribes to Stallman's political objectives. So far that's been fine because he hasn't injected himself too deeply into the projects but I suspect if contributors had to pledge loyalty to Stallman or fork, most projects would fork. The only reason GNU "controls" most of the linux system is because it's been more hassle than it's worth.
It seems like this is just another example of NIH syndrome made manifest.
They are switching to a web interface.. that they invented. This is about consolidating development resources onto a single installer instead of developing two separate interfaces that do the exact same thing.
As to slow, who cares, it's an OS installer interface. It's not exactly a high performance application to configure a.conf file.
Yeah let's say it's run in New York City with 8.5 million people. They put out a facial ID profile of a suspect and out 8.5 million people 13 possible suspects are returned. That's a lot better than stopping and questioning every "black guy around 6 feet tall who is wearing wearing shoes in a 2 mile radius".
I mean to be honest you would need an 8k scan of a 70mm to perfectly capture everything. But even then according Nolan it doesn't matter how good the scan is...
you lose a tremendous amount of information I call emotional information.
*gag*. I'm not sure where on the color spectrum "emotional information" lives but apparently it can't be scanned or digitally projected.
prioritizes marginalized peopleâ(TM)s safety over privileged peopleâ(TM)s comfort
That's a great policy and it's not what you're twisting it into. Safety should be the priority. That's like complaining that seat belts shouldn't be prioritized over most people's convenience. We shouldn't have passwords! After all, why should we prioritize the user's safety over the user's convenience and comfort?
He's explicitly against discriminating based on sex and ancestry.
There are multiple forms of discrimination. I recognize that by virtue of there being lots of my peers who were into coding in highschool I also got into coding. I didn't need an outreach program because there was an existing program that was discriminatory based not on malice but on just the status quo.
When there is a discrimination independent of merit (what gender your peers are) it's not unreasonable to have a special program to attempt to offer that same outreach to people who aren't being reached.
Ok, so he's not anti-woman and anti-minority, he's anti-outreach to women and minorities to encourage them to participate.
There's an important difference that was cited on the SO post last week between tolerance and inclusiveness. We shouldn't just be tolerating people, we should be welcoming. If you invite someone to your party and they don't know anyone and everyone else is friends you could say "I did enough! I invited them, it's up to them now!" but we all know how uncomfortable it can be, especially if they are shy, to approach a group of people they don't know. Inclusiveness is not just inviting someone and tolerating their presence but saying "Hey, thanks for coming here are some people I would like you to meet that I think you would get along well."
He's objecting to the fact that there is an organization that focuses on people just showing up to the party and don't know anyone. While it's true even straight white males from the united states need those same introductions to be included, there are numerous networks that already are performing that duty well. While they may not be explicitly stated as their goal to be "Helping straight white men from America find a welcoming place in the community." the outcome is that they are really well designed to do that. And that's fine too. But we can't pretend that those organizations don't exist.
This is by the way the UNIX philosophy "Do one thing well". It's great that we have lots of organizations that have organically developed to help one specific set of people (nerdy guys) find a place in open source. But having separate organizations that are focused on different problems is what the Unix Philosophy applied to recruitment recommends.
According to Nikola, Tesla's truck is an impossible scam that will never work. So why bother suing a product that supposedly will never come to market?
Translated: SpaceX thought they needed to charge a premium to deal with bureaucracy but wildly underestimated just how much bureaucracy is required to interact with a multi multi billion dollar internationally operated property.
It's based on FOV. So if you sit close to a 30" 8k display, or put an 8k display in a VR headset with a 90 degree FOV you'll need more resolution than a 80" TV in a bar 20 feet away. Even most people hold their tablets so close to their face that from an FOV perspective the Tablet is bigger than a 65" TV at 6' away.
The other consideration isn't just what your eyes can "see" but what your brain can perceive. E-ink demonstrated that while we might not be able to really "see" pixels very clearly (although I can clearly see pixels in diagonal 1px wide lines on a 1080p 24" display at arm's length) the brain can subconsciously infer that it's looking at lots of little jaggies. 1080p content looks better on a 4k TV. Even with just standard bi-linear boring uprezing I would rather look at a slightly soft but smooth image than a jaggy aliased edge on a 1080p display.
We got rid of all that nonsense in 2016
Switch from Microsoft and their evil 1995 practices to our product... we've been non-evil since 2016!

Graphics look the same between PS3 and PS4.
Uhhh.. no.
https://youtu.be/XgAAl5gLouo?t...
And that was a launch title so best case PS3 vs worst case PS4.
Wildly Ambitious would be a small, thick, sturdy phone
You just questioned the sturdiness of a thick phone machined out of solid titanium...

By some people's definition of Strong vs Weak AI, there are human beings who don't qualify for "I".
It's something that drives me crazy with these criticisms. It's the classic "Yeah, but an AI can't write a symphony." Can you?!

Palm
Windows CE killed Palm OS. Not sure what you're talking about there.
Also the Surface line has been highly profitable with billions in revenue per quarter. So I don't call that a failure.

3 Hours Later another Tesla was given a speeding ticket, and in a completely separate incident a Tesla was given a failure to blink ticket!
Do we really need a news story for every driver of a Tesla in the world who breaks the law?
It seems like this is just another example of NIH syndrome made manifest.
