A couple of years ago we had quite a few power problems as one company or another dug up our street. As tech support company you tend to be reliant on power.. so when the power went, the servers shutdown and bought Monopoly for use to wittle away the hours with. Just make sure you have enough batteries for torches. And remember, UPS' can be used for boiling a kettle... just:) --
As a Slackware user I have to admit, I like it when I see Slackware news on Slashdot. Its been on twice in as many days (truely a records for Slack?). However it seems to have had two different icons, with the Slackware Updates we had the "GNU's Not Unix" topic and with this topic we had the "Linux" topic (which seems more logical).
However, I believe its about time that Slackware gains its own topic and respectfully ask da Management for one.(A Slackware stylised "S" perhaps?)
When I installed Slackware 7.0 the large hard disk problem was an annoyance, but one that was easy to fix once I knew the problem. (Mental note.. always make a boot floppy:)
As for vmlinuz being installed into/, by default, it is, but in the Makefile in the kernel source you can change the Install Path. It has it set to/boot and is just waiting for you to uncomment it! Reading the Slackware Install Forum this question has come up all to frequently, way more frequently than any other question.
Its a small problem on an otherwise excellent distribution that I plan on using for years to come...
Over here in the Netherlands I've found the releases vary even more than the UK. I've seen films that took another couple of months to reach the UK, and as for Star Wars.. I swear it was almost 6months after the UK.
As for DVD importing... a local shop here imports Region 1 DVDs (a nice shop.. all it sells are DVDs:), they're usualy the same price as over the net, and more often than not arrive quicker too.
Ever noticed how films released all over the world at once only seem to be flops? (Psyco remake, The Avengers.. etc). Personally I always wondered if they do it so "word of mouth" doesn't kick in before it hits a country.....
True enough, but personally I don't want a PC and associated keyboard (and on occasion Mouse too) everywhere, I have enough hiding here and there as it it.
I'd be quite happy to have this as my alarm clock, and I'm not sure my bedside cabinet would take the strain of a PC.....:)
They forget to mention above that this little thing will play your MP3s accross your 10/100 Network (doesn't say how; samba, ftp or what?) and it already has the network card. It also allows external storage devices to be plugged into it.
While its true you can edit the file and remove the offending lines (and I do periodically..), if you don't want cookies at all, you can just disable them totally in the "Advanced" part of the Netscape Preferances.
True it means you can never use cookies again, unlike the previous poster..
But then, I'm presuming you all trust Navigator here... you do, don't you?

Yes, Mental Illness is a serious problem for people and is not to be taken lightly. In this day and age, however, people treat the odd "down" feeling as depression.
Life is more and more stressful (just the daily commute into London is enough for a day) and what Sufi said can be very useful in helping daily stresses and preventing problems from developing further..
This is not to say that a walk in the woods will solve everything. It certainly won't help schizophrenia, which to my understanding is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, as well as some behavioral problems, but it can help.
The percentage to me (22%) sounds a little high though. The last time I heard, it was estimated that 10% of the UK had some mental illness...

I'm afraid I don't follow this.. the breaking up of MS into baby Bills doesn't help matters, all you will be doing is creating seperate monopolies which will just continue functioning.
True this will limit how much MS can keep information to itself, but what we need is competition on OS and on applications.. Most regular home users and companies use Office, and you can only get that on MS OS's or on a Mac.
Where is the initiative to change that? Thats what needs to be focused upon, IMHO.
But if you look about an inch to the right.. theres Linux under networking! Personally I would have put it under OS's to.. but what the hey.. there it is....:)
An interesting site, free books.. time to nose around!:)
Okay.. so the way they can be absolutly sure the client is working correctly to open source it.. but its not as if they're trusting the client completely. They will check the data that is reporting the signal (time and time again I suspect).
But what if they open source it? People will know how to fake the return data. You know someone will do it. So do they check the occasional block of data or the (most likely) more frequent block of data...
So does winGaim. When you open the plugins dialog box it just start at the right directory though
Like Novell before NDS was any better....
Stick with 112 for even in the UK this works :)
Personally, I'd like it so the current window was opaque, and the others were semi-transparent. Now thats a function I could use.
Linus has stated that he'd like to get rid of a lot of the "non-informational" messages on boot and with this I have to agree with him.
Do you plan on furthering this cause, and helping make our boot times a simpler, less complicated read?
The planet is called "K-PAX" and his own name is "prot". K-PAX II is out in bookshops now, and K-PAX III is out next year, apparently.
My understanding is... the copyright holders may relicence the material as they see fit.
Since, I presume, they own the copyright, they can relicence it to other people, along with any additional code they see fit.

RPM (featurefull but complex)
SLP (you gotta be joking)
I have to admit, creating RPMs was way more complex than I wanted, compared with creating [Slackware] TGZs.
And what functionality do SLPs give you that RPMs and DEBs don't?

Amazon is still a box on the right hand side though...
