I would also argue that American racing is no more corrupt from a doping standpoint than any other organized body. To think otherwise is naive, in my opinion.
I have to disagree. What make American racing unappealing to me is that it specifically allows doping like Lasix (and I think Bute in New York).
Don't get me wrong, I think that in any sport anywhere that involve lots of money there will always be someone that try to cheat. However, when the sports ruling body say that it is allowed to cheat (Lasix and Bute is listed in the racing programs), then I will put my money other places.
BTW. I actually did that. Some years ago I was betting on American racing for some months, but I walked away in disgust after seeing over and over that nearly all the horses on a card where running on Lasix.
I am now following the British National Hunt racing instead. They are probably not 100% clean either (no one is), but at least they make an effort. One thing however that make me believe it is cleaner is that jump racing is for older horses.
On the flat there are a lot of big races for 2- and 3 year olds, so the temptation to race an unsound animal under medication is much stronger there. One thing a bit special to America is that a so much racing is done on dirt, and there is a strong focus on timerecords. In Europe we do most racing on turf, and due to the differing tracks and going of the ground timerecords become a bit irrelevant (or at least hard to consider).
He was indeed special, but I find it difficult to be impressed by any American race results. The reason is that this country effectively legalise doping in it's racing.
Look up any racing program, and you will find that 90% (if not more) of the horses run on Lasix. One of the functions of Lasix is that it an be used to mask other chemicals. Now, how can you then trust that any results are won fair and square?
I don't know if still goes on, but I believe that racing in the state of New York it was allowed to race a horse on Bute. Bute is a painkiller. If you try race an injured horse it won't run, or it will run very badly. Using Bute the horse will not be so affected by the injury, and the trainer may squeeze a race or two more out of the horse. The horse should of course not be raced at all until it had got better!
On a side note; the horse that has impressed me most of all is Red Rum. He won The English Grand National three times and finished in second place two times. That is something that never has been repeated or surpassed, and probably never will.
Here in Norway Office XP was just released with support for 'nynorsk' which is a quite widely used official dialect of regular norwegian. There was quite a lot of pressure on MS from the departement of education to provide this.
OpenOffice has had support for nynorsk since 1.0.2 I believe.
Postfix works great with Courier and Maildir. I use both with virtual maps, and user/password authentication in MySQL.
It was pretty easy to set up and there has never been a problem with it. I run Cyrus on another server, but the installation with SASL can really be a pain in the ass!
Cyrus has got one great thing, and that is it's integration with the Sieve filtering language. Once you start using server side filters with IMAP, you will wonder however you managed without!
is that they will be using OpenOffice instead of MS Office on 14k PC's. That should really worry Microsoft as a lot of users will be getting used to documents not ending in.doc
The battle will be won the day MS will be forced to add OpenOffice filters to MS Office due to customer demand.
It is a holiday period for lots of people. So they can not use the computer at the office, and at home (if not gone away) they have other things to do.
You decide, nobody forces you to use Red Hat.
That's right, I use Slackware. One of the reasons are that ReiserFS is included by default. I have used ReiserFS for several years and have found it to be very stable and reliable.
I like C++ GUI Programming with Qt 4 very much. Details here http://troll.no/developer/books/2
That's the best summary I have ever seen on why ODF is so important!
Look, this is Slashdot! You can't just go around being insightful here, you know! ;-)
The tarball you download for Linux only contains RPMS. Has anybody been able to install it on Slackware?
I was looking forward to seing Bester again. He is one of my favourite villains.
I agree. I have never understood why they don't package Postfix. It is stable, secure, and easy to configure.
Just the right fit for Slackware.

I am sure Bioware appreciated me buying their game. The companies that don't have a Linux version don't get my money.
This is not a religious issue for me. I don't use Windows anymore, so I need a version for Linux if I should buy a game.
I bought Neverwinter Nights from Bioware because of the Linux client. Great game!
I don't play that many games anymore, so now I am only interested in buying those that I can play on my OS of choice - Linux.
Sure, OpenBSD has got a great security record. But, Sendmail!? It has got a record that make it look like it was made by a certain company in Redmond!
Use something like Qmail or Postfix (made by the man behind tcpd).

Anything interesting going on?
You mean RMS, don't you?
Novell is also including Apache and MySQL with the latest Netware. I do believe PHP also run on Netware.
It looks to me like they are using well known open source products to add value to their own proprietary products.
They probably helped with the porting, but it is a smart way of getting great software into the Netware distribution.
Nuff said...
If Mono really becomes a good .NET alternative, then that could help Novells services integrate even better with Windows.
While I prefer KDE, a native Groupwise client on Linux would be great. The webclient is quite good, but I will never beat a native client.
They did that in Germany. SCO had to stop the badmouthing of Linux after LinuxTag got a restraint order(?)

It should be USA. It's time George W. took a look at his own backyard.
It is a holiday period for lots of people. So they can not use the computer at the office, and at home (if not gone away) they have other things to do.
And in other news..

Should'nt the parent to this be modded 'Funny'?
