Don't you see? It's not that it's "ok" to do anything for a buck. It's that we realize that someone is guaranteed to do anything for a buck. It's not always the same person and it's not always the same reason.
People are cynical, well, because, we have every reason to be.
Smarter people than myself have said it, if the people you have know a certain language, use that, don't force them to use something else even if it is conceived to be better.
Now if you're going out and specifically hiring people for this project, things get a whole lot more touchy-feeley and you'll be forced to do much research. But then again, you're probably expecting to do a lot of that anyway.
...But I like the way google advertises. Whether it be in Gmail, in search results, or on Froogle. RSS is just another medium to explore. If they continue to stay unobtrusive, I wish them the best of luck.
I mean there has to be some rational reason for this.
-Their own device
-An up and coming competitor
-Perhaps they didn't think their profit margin on it was good enough
-They weren't getting the mindshare of consumers
But whatever the reason, it just seems bad to distance themselves from something so wildly popular.
(Actually reminds me of when David Duchovney left X-Files*) *This statement is a joke, not a flame.
By all means, I'd love some examples. And no, don't mention the moon. It may not be crashing down on us, but it has an unstable orbit and is moving away from us. Sorry about my ambiguity with the statment of unstable orbits, they don't all go crashing back to earth.
I believe there was once an addage that went something like, "what goes up, must come down."
Even if they had to evacuate (which they can't and won't), its in a decaying orbit, everything is.
Maybe for you, that's too much. But then again, you probably wouldn't want shoes that are 10 feet long. But a skiier might. So don't equate your needs to everyone's.

I'm not sure how to say this without coming off as a troll. But what is the intent here? In the past they tolerated German rocket scientists, why are these scientists being signaled out?
I would expect many here to know, but people still do run Amiga hardware. In fact, when the company that made Fusion, a Macintosh 680x0 emulator, first started making a PPC emulator, they wrote it first to run with Amigas that were upgraded with PPC chips.
You're right, that state's system is a bit messed up, for everyone (accidental calls). But state lists do have (supposedly) a purpose. That list is designed to prevent intra-state calls, whereas the federal list only prevents interstate calls.
VoIP is like any other product, you buy it if it provides what you want. If I am a company, then most likely I have a good sized call volume and can't stand anything below current landline service. But if I have family who lives far away and I can save money using VoIP then I certainly will.
If I need speed, I'll buy a sportscar. If I need reliability I'll buy a honda. Everything isn't everything for everybody. Nor should it be.
Traditional land lines are very reliable in America. There are more instances of power outages than phone outages. (when was the last time you got a busy signal for 911 or had to use your cell phone because your power AND phone were out of service?) It boggles my mind to think that the FCC wants people to trust computers/cable providers/routers to be as reliable. And please don't because VoIP is sold as a land-line equivalent, because I'm sure there are houses out there that only use cordless phones and hence they are in the same boat in a power outage.
We listen to him for the same reason why we listen to a drunk describe a miracle invention he likes to call a "toaster." Because it's entertaininging and we get to say how much smarter we are than someone who is famous.
Not trolling here, his antics are truly amusing sometimes.
It's also VERY confusing. Because with the right phone, you can download MIDIs yourself from the internet, or even use the clips they have in MP3 format on walmart.com.
That's a very good point. The kind of homogenious enviornment I was talking about concentrates in the kernal mostly. For example, OSX, OS9, Win9X, WinNT, Solaris, and BSD. Heck, even windows with windows isn't homogenious.
Even though open source code promotes a homogeneous enviornment. The companies that are behind the major distros are just that, companies. They happen to be fine with the F/OSS mindset, but they still want to maintain a name. Don't cluster the beads of water that have spilled everywhere, let the small ones evaporate and the rest of them pool on their own.

Too late, your parents already have a monopoly.

People already tried that. Mr Lincoln said, "no."

Show *ME* a landline service that's as cheap for local, long distance, and international calls and I'll give up my VoIP.

Money has its value and it goes up and down, but anal virginity is priceless.
