How do you get dragged into the lawsuit to begin with when it isn't your name? When they brought the papers by why didn't he just say "Sorry. That's not my name, you have the wrong address," and close the door on them?

That is fundamentally exactly what happened in this case:

    1. He is not "Paule Wilke" which is the name he was sued under.

I think what petes_PoV was picking up on is just the fact that 'overseas types' is such a crass and outdated notion and turn of phrase. For a start, the internet is an international audience, so using this term is very US-centric and out of place. It is also a really easy way to offend all of us 'overseas types'. It's like me saying "those USA types are really dodgy characters" - IOW it's a sweeping generalisation with no basis in fact.

Is Canada overseas? How about Mexico? Columbia? It's a fairly big continent!

Finally, the notion that all the scammers are 'overseas' and that the US is a haven of law abiding citizens is also quite incorrect.

    Less 'them-and-us' please :-)

Who is going to sit and encode this information, mapped frame by frame? You would have to encode EVERYTHING in the film this way, otherwise it would be worse than mystery meat navagation, it would be MOVING mystery meat navagation!

It's funny Bose was brought up. I agree they are bad sounding speakers. They have systems with 4 small satelites and a subwoofer (which is quite a common setup), the sub still has to have a reasonable size of paper cone woofer in it, and they are usualy tuned and ported to provide nothing but a rumble box unless the box is of some size.

Thats great for video, but what about audio? When is someone going to make a loudspeaker that doesn't have to be 8 inches across with a kilo of magnet to get anywhere near a full range sound? I mean, we have been using paper cone speakers for over 100 years, and they are still the first choise for most systems!

I use exclusivly Seagate internal drives for all the computers I build. They are very reliable drives that come with a good warinty. The fact that they had some USB external drive with problems says nothing about the long term experence with Seagate. It sounds like that USB drive had some programing issues on the drive, not problems with the drive itself IMHO. I personaly would tend to stay away from USB external drives if possible.

Seagate make the quietest, most reliable drives I know of. I specify them in all my audio (recording studio) computers. Not one (touch wood) failure in 6 years.

If your computer is scanning the drives, make sure you have fast search turned OFF in XP, it will try to index your HDD everytime it 'thinks' you aren't needing to access the drive. Also check for spyware and all the usual nonsense running in the background.

Finaly, you can suspend your HDD or use sleeves to stop the drive transmitting the vibrations to the case. The case can act a little like a guitar body and amplify the grinding sounds.
