I'm sure they would use some sort of broadband connection to deliver this service. I guess with a cellphone the res wouldn't need to be set too high. I'm still skeptical of what it would actually look like, 15FPS of 240x240 video (guessing here) will suck no matter what the size of the display is.
IANAL, but it seems odd that these sites which distribute the torrents can be held liable for the torrent's contents. The sites never actually host the copyrighted material, same goes for the trackers of the torrents. It would seem to me that the seeds of torrents would be the ones who are violating copyright law. But it is a shady practice, I dont know if I would really want the EFF to get involved with this one.
I have a job thanks to spyware/malware! Seriously, if it wasn't for bad crap ppl get installed on thier computer (usually from porn or kazaa), I wouldn't have a job. Where I work we get at least 4 computers PER DAY that are useless do to the HUNDREDS of malware installed. $35 diagnostic plus $30 clean up fee for each box ensures I get a paycheck each week. Its a cash cow for repair shops.
While some spyware is installed via remote exploits, most require a stupid user to get duped into running an executable or ActiveX dll. As I pointed out earlier it generally comes through when someone thinks they're getting free porn or free software. So I dont have much sympathy for them. I know plenty of windows users who have no problem using IE without infecting themselves with such apps
3g is an inet connection. Watching a video stream via 3g would be like watching a stream on the internet. This however, is not an internet, instead its a dedicated service like your cable company. So your tied in to what is programmed for you, no setting up shoutcast servers or anything like that.
I agree, here's my theory, raves started and all the punks started eating xtc, hence emo. I hate it so, At least NOFX tries to keep it real, but even their sound is changing =/
I'm very sad about Guttermouth.
The concept of trying to poll certain musicians to reflect what all musicians as a whole think about the internet seems flawed. Considering how many genres music spans, how could you get an accurate reflection? How many punk bands made it into this poll?
Yes, but everybody else probably realises that downloading TV shows via bittorrent is theft, no different than stealing someones purse on the street, do you do that as well?
if i see a purse lying in the street with no owner, I suspect a hidden video stunt perhaps using a poo dollar.
I have a love/hate feeling for slashdot these days, this isn't my first uid. Here we have a story about Nasa which unfortunatly mentions Goerge W. Bush. Now instead of discussing the technical aspects OF THE NASA MISSIONS, we discuss politics, like I cant go discuss politics somewhere else..I need a new nerd haven, plz slashdot, kill the politics or it will kill you.

You're point is valid that the government does have a trade deficit. Also, there is a spending deficit. Both of which contributes to the growing national debt.
All of that said, the annual budget is over 3 trillion smackers. Thats 3 trillion allocated to be spent, its going to get spent, and if you saw some of the other government programs fleecing the american tax dollar, you get my point. Developing a moon base, or space elevator, or some other conceived but not yet developed idea will get a return on our tax dollars with priceless knowledge.
PREFACE: I respect all the work Pat Volkerding has done for linux, and specificly slackware. I truly hope Pat feels better and gets the help he needs.
Hi Welsh Dwarf.
I would like to correct you. You point out in at least 3 other replies regarding this/. story, that Pat wasn't self medicating. Lets look at Pat's own words.
This all began quite some time ago, perhaps as long ago as May of 2001..[edit]...The doctor who saw me did a chest X-ray and didn't
think it was too unusual. I was told it was probably bronchitis and was
sent home with a prescription for ciprofloxacin which mostly cleared up
the problem. Still the pain in my shoulder seemed to vaguely remain.
By mid October of 2001, I was in bad shape again. My parents asked me
what I wanted for my birthday and I told them some more Cipro. They
found someone who was able to help me out with a 60 day supply.
So rather than returning to the doctor four months later he decided to have his parents to get Cipro by some other means? Is "someone" even a doctor? Why wouldn't the previous doctor prescribe the Cipro again? Not convinced? lets look further..
I chalked the events
of 2001 up to stress, but in retrospect I am not so sure. I had
similar problems in 2002 and 2003 that were also knocked back with some
antibiotics, but the pain in my left upper back (and some kind of
"presence" there) never did fully clear up.
Sounds like he has the Cipro on hand. I wonder how many 60-day supplies he got (i know later Pat recants "60 days" but does it sound like he ever stopped taking Cipro?) . He goes on and on about doing his own research and diagnosing his own problems. Seriously, if you read the whole thing I don't know how you can't say that this is nothing more than a mental disorder. Pat's first mention about his health problems opens with:
"I've generally been a pretty healthy guy. Nobody I know would characterize me as a hypochondriac by any stretch, so when I raise an alarm it tends to
be for real.
^- thats a lie. Someone has called Pat a hypochondriac and its the reason he starts off denying that he is one. We should look further into what could make Pat act this way, I think its the old subconcious screwing with poor Pat, mainly something to do with his Dad.
Some of it was white and
reminded me of dental plaque. In spite of being a dentist's son I've
never had the best oral hygiene so I'm familiar with plaque.
His dad is a dentist, and Pat hated to brush his teeth. I probably could stop here, but it's interesting how Pat describes his condition. dental plaque? Don't you think Pat's dad would tell him all the horrible things that would happen if Pat didnt brush and floss everyday? Don't you think that really got on Pat's nervs?
The
"plaque" I was getting out of my lungs was some nasty stuff and smelled just like dental floss used after a couple of days without
brushing. Yeah, I know I should be better about that, but tend to
stay up late and if my wife is already asleep don't always turn the
light on and wake her up so I can brush before bed. To help me avoid
more tooth decay my dad bought me one of those fancy rechargable
electric toothbrushes that really powers away the plaque. It also
creates a fine aerosol mist of plaque, and I started to wonder if 4
years of using this brush had caused me to breathe in some of this
plaque mist and moved an infection into my lungs.
yep..looks like it did.. Here's where poor Pat goes wrong. Pat finds a kook doctor whose morality takes a back seat to his greed.
The next day (Saturday, 13th) I went
to a local clinic with an MD in private practice. This guy was/is
great, and has seen me about a half dozen times since. He agreed
that I had signs of serious infection, including a disgusting
garlic/sulfur smell you could detect at 50 paces. He put me on
levaquinone and metronidazo
Not to start another PHP vs. Java flame war, but it looks like LAMP is starting to grow up, and that it is much better suited for next generation applications than J2EE."

Who ate the gingerbread computer? because it is no longer online...

Does that mean that ISPs which host a newsgroup server are liable for the newsgroup contents? i hear alt.binaires.* isn't always legit ;)

looking at the title, doesn't it dawn on everyone that TV episodes are already widely available via torrents?
