My statements do not contradict each other. Developers don't build their games and libraries on OpenGL ES on the PS3, they build them around LibGCM, which is a lower level API than OpenGL. Practically nobody uses OpenGL ES on PS3 as I already said. I don't see what DirectX has to do with anything.
What do you mean by toolkits? On the PS3 most if not all developers use a low level library called LibGCM. There's an OpenGL ES implementation but it is slower than using the low level libraries so it's only used by a couple very simple games on the PSN.
I doubt we'll see another console with x86 chips. They're too expensive as Microsoft learned to their detriment last generation. The PS3's chip is just a PPC core with a bunch of very fast vector processors around it.
I don't see what's wrong with the name. It's part of the Xperia series of Android phones, and Play is obviously for Playstation as it supports the Playstation Suite framework.
Seriously, I don't see what Sony were trying to achieve here. I think anybody who mods their console (hardware or software) to run homebrew or pirated games will do so with the expectation that they will not continue to be able to use PSN features for long.
Just read some of the posts above and you'll see that's not the case...
Microsoft already beat them to it. Some games that ship with GFWL required your to be online to save your progress. Don't know if that's still the case nowadays as I tend to avoid GFWL games.
No, you misunderstood. The title, summary and even the article didn't help either because they only quoted part of Carmack's sentence. Seriously, it's a twitter message why did they fail to quote it in it's entirety? Here's the full quote: "Low level APIs will allow the Sony NGP to perform about a generation beyond smart phones with comparable specs." So he isn't talking about the hardware but the software. The way you access the handheld's (and video game consoles in general) hardware is lower level than that of smartphones and PCs, so with equivalent hardware, developers can get more performance out of consoles than phones or PCs.
You need to read those descriptions again. Only one model will offer 3G, and it may not even be offered in all countries, depending on what deals Sony gets with the different carriers.
Did you also make sure the TV doesn't use any component made by Sony? Or that the company making it didn't license some technology from Sony? It's practically impossible to not pay them directly or indirectly if you buy any complex electronic product.

You can remove the PS3 from that list as nobody uses OpenGL on it.
Not everybody has those high resolution screens. I just replaced my old 1440x900 by a new 1600x900 a few months back and it's good enough for me.

Well, no console has ever had it's own fully custom processor. It's always a derivative of a mainstream general purpose chip.
Intel doesn't make ARM processors anymore.
x86 is too expensive, so probably PPC again.

We get more sequels because more people will buy them than new games, simple as that.
How can they win the election when they said they won't present a candidate?
A lot of KDE developers also work on Qt.
Even if all of slashdot's users were to do the same I doubt it would make a difference in the grand scheme of things.
Yes, you are being paranoid. Stuff like this has been around for ages.
Microsoft already beat them to it. Some games that ship with GFWL required your to be online to save your progress. Don't know if that's still the case nowadays as I tend to avoid GFWL games.
And it means absolutely nothing to stop buying Sony hardware when dozens of millions of people still continue doing it.
Look at the version number again.

Where did he attack Sony? The part where he praised their new handheld console's performance? If so I'd like to be attacked more often.

It's not a smartphone, nobody said it was.

You could use the rear touch pad in place of the other 2 buttons.
Of course you forgot to mention that your 480 costs twice as much, is louder and more power hungry.
