  1. Re:Well shit on Final Fantasy XIV Launches To Scathing Reviews · · Score: 1

Fortunately the Enix side appears to still be ran intelligently -- Dragon Quest 9 was pretty much spot on perfect, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 has some missteps but is much better than Joker 1, etc etc. And the new Final Fantasy 4 Heroes of Light game is also pretty close to perfect as it stands, so there is hope for the franchise. Just not in the current path they're going down.

Those games are good probably because Square Enix only published them.
Dragon Quest 9 was developed by Level 5, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 by Tose and Final Fantasy The 4 Heroes of Light by Matrix Software.

There are other modes in the paid version like survival and multiplayer survival that add stuff like collecting resources, crafting items and fighting monsters among other things.

I don't know why you got modded informative because that's incorrect. The 360 doesn't have SPEs, just 3 hyper-threaded cores like you find on PC processors. The major difference is PPC vs x86.

Now compare that to the difference between the PS2 and PS3. The PS2 is a complex little beast with half a dozen specialized processors with weird connections between them. Add to that the weirdness of the PS3's architecture and you'll see it takes a lot more to emulate the PS2 on the PS3 than the Xbox on the Xbox 360, which was my point.

  11. Re:When a PS2 emulator is released... LOL@SONY! on Emulation Arrives On the PS3 · · Score: 1

If it only emulates the popular games I'd hardly call that perfect emulation, which is what I was responding to.

The PS2 is anything but a basic machine. It has one of the weirdest architectures ever produced, weirder still that the PS3's. Also, the PS3 is not that more powerful than the 360. It's more powerful in certain aspects but less in others. For example it's very good at parallel problems but that won't help it much in this case because emulation is hard to parallelize. PCSX2 on PC uses only 2 threads and most other emulators only one.

  12. Re:When a PS2 emulator is released... LOL@SONY! on Emulation Arrives On the PS3 · · Score: 1

The Xbox emulation on the 360 is hardly perfect. It requires a different emulator profile per game and even then it only supports a few of the popular games. In addition, the Xbox and the 360 are very much alike in terms of architecture than the PS2 and PS3. The more different they are the more resources you need to emulate correctly.

The free version is not a game, it's just a sandbox demo where you can build what you want. The payed version has day/night cycles, where monsters attack at night and you have to survive. In addition, you have to mine and collect the resources yourself instead of having an infinite amount of them like in the free version. There's also a multiplayer mode.

That's mostly incorrect. The PS1 emulation has never been removed and has always been 100% software. The PS2 emulation on the other hand requires hardware assistance because the PS3 isn't powerful enough to do it completely in software. Those chips were removed in 2008, a year before the Slim model was released. Also, the old models that are capable of doing PS2 emulation can still do it, the option was never removed.
