How, pray tell, would you do so? You "cash in" by selling working units, which, by definition is not secret.
Well you can also sell electricity while keeping the inner workings of your box secret.
If you invented working cold fusion, you're gonna become very rich regardless. But if your goal is to become the richest man in the world, it might be better to keep it a secret.
A practical fusion generator is such an important device that a lot of countries -- probably the majority -- are going to simply nationalize it claiming "national security". China already steals IP rampantly on silly unimportant patents of minor economic benefit; do you really think they will honor your cold fusion patents when UNLIMITED FREE AND CLEAN ENERGY is at stake?
Yes you can get rich by selling units in US and EU countries. But you can get even richer by selling electricity worldwide at half the current rates.
No, Sexconker, it's the H1-B workers who are cash cows for asshole U.S. corporations who keep firing U.S. workers and hiring them, so they can make more money off of destroying the middle class in this country.
This is why you must vote for Bernie (if you're a liberal) or Trump (if you're a conservative). Clinton, Bush and Rubio want exactly the same thing which is to make their corporate masters richer while gutting the middle class. When Disney was laying off their entire IT department and forcing them to train their H1B replacement workers, whose campaign do you think Disney was funding? Hillary and Jeb's. Not Bernie or Trump: Disney hates these guys.
The Powers That Be have stacked the deck against Bernie in every way imaginable. DNC chairman is a former Clinton campaign manager. They cut the number of primary debates because they learned from focus groups that the more people see and learn about Hillary, less they like her, while the opposite was true for Bernie -- his favorability went up the more people learned about him.
Not only that, the few remaining debates have been scheduled to attracted as little viewership as possible (Saturday and Sunday nights, opposite major sporting events, Xmas shopping season, etc)
This latest flap is just a curt reminder for Bernie that he's just here as a prop and that he needs to know his place.
Freeway autonomous driving is doable. But on regular streets it's hard, maybe impossible given current roads and parking lots.
But a freeway-only fully autonomous vehicle is still very valuable. Long-haul trucks and RVs spend most of their driving time on freeways. If a trucker can sleep 8 hours while the truck drives itself on the freeway and then take over only when the truck exits the freeway, the trucking company can save huge amounts of money. You can basically double the productivity of a driver/truck combo, since you can operate it continuously instead of having to shut down for the night. Also it's a plus from a safety standpoint; tired sleep-deprived truck drivers cause a lot of accidents. It's worth doing.
Newsweek... accused Musk and other space-minded billionaires of plotting to abandon the planet to the ravages of global warming while they go to Mars to live the good life.
You can jack up global warming until every single molecule of polar ice melts, and on top of that you can detonate every single nuclear warhead in existence, and Earth will still be an infinitely more habitable place than Mars. So the accusation of abandoning Earth to become a hellhole while billionaires live it up on Mars is stupid beyond belief.
Mind you I'm totally in favor of Elon or somebody sending people to Mars, but that would be as an exploration and human achievement rather than some bullshit class warfare thing.
20% savings is believable. Pirates easily achieve that much without sacrificing video quality. Of course pirates do it by hand, eyeballing each scene and adjusting the bitrate and compression, so it's a lot of labor. Also it's almost an art form. It's incredible how much video quality a good pirate encoder can fit inside 700mb (to fit on a CD-R... this used to be the standard back in the day)
Of course Netflix can't hire teams of pirates to encode their billion hours of video, so they'd have to automate it. But thinking that current video codecs have reached the limit of efficiency or close to it is absolutely not true.
If any country needs driverless cars, it's Korea. If you think American roads are full of drunk drivers and aggressive douchebag drivers who ignore rules of the road, you haven't been to Korea.
It would just be a holding company of some sort. Obviously the new company will have the yahoo.com domain and all the other assets associated with their online business. Seeing as how name recognition is probably the only thing they still have going for them, it would be stupid beyond belief to change their domain.
"Yahoo.com is now xyz.com. Please visit our new site at xyz.com!" - can you imagine?
I predict the original company (which will consist of just Alibaba shares) will rename itself to YahooBaba Inc, and the new online business company will continue to call itself "Yahoo!" while being a subsidiary of a new parent company with a generic name... something like Alphabet Holdings.
Oh wait, that one's taken... how about Betazoid Holdings, Inc?
Next, roll it yourself. Prove it's capable of actually making money. So you invented something - big deal. Unless you can make money with it, it's worthless. So start your own small business, show that there is a market for it. You don't have to sell tens of millions or make millions in revenue. Just a small stream will show it's commercially viable.
Some ideas/patents do not lend themselves for making a commercially viable standalone product. His invention sounds like one of them.
A famous example is the intermittent windshield wiper. How do you sell that yourself as a standalone product? It has to be integrated into the electrical system of a car. Start your own automobile company?
Geology noob here, with a noob question. Has the mantle been definitively proven to exist? Browsing the summary, it looks to me like no one has ever seen or touched the earth's mantle, and that scientists are trying to drill through the crust and reach the mantle for the first time to do exactly that.
It would be interesting if they they drill through the earth's crust completely, and instead of the mantle they find something else. Maybe more crust? Or....
It came in the mail yesterday, direct from China. I tested it last night, seems to work fine. Haven't charged it yet, it was already charged up when I unboxed it.
According to the info I just gleaned from this thread, the device itself is fine and it's a defective charger that could cause a fire, specifically the power cut-off that detects a fully charged battery and automatically stops delivering juice to the battery.... this feature could be non-functional. So my plan for tonight is:
-Test charge the unit for the first time, keeping it and the charger in a relatively safe area in case of a fire, and keeping a fire extinguisher on hand.
-According to the (very poorly written, in broken English) manual, a normal charging cycle takes about 2-3 hours. So make sure to always manually disconnect the charger after 2 hours and not rely on the auto power cutoff.
Lucky I didn't have time to play around with the thing more yesterday, if I did then I would've probably left it charging overnight. Also lucky I came across this information literally hours after I took delivery of the device.
I have a DLink docsis 3.0 cable modem I bought for $65 on sale about a year ago. Before that I was renting one from Comcast for $5 a month. Next month the DLink will have paid for itself, and anything after that will be gravy.
It's been working fine so far, haven't noticed anything different from the Motorola one that I was renting.

It's like that in ecommerce also. The #1 ecommerce software is Magento (php). #2 is Woocommerce (php). #3 is Prestashop (php). #5 and #7 and #8 are also in php. Something like 60 to 70% of all ecommerce sites on the internet are in php. 2015 ecommerce platform rankings

He was charged with securities fraud. He will probably plead to a year in Club Fed and probation thereafter.

Either that or she was just doing a solid by her old Google buddies
I can imagine the day when Windows is built on top of Linux, similar to how MacOS is built on top of BSD. That will be the year of the Linux desktop!
Maybe in 2020, Windows version 12.

Mass too small, internal heat too low to generate a liquid iron core dynamo.
As TFA says though, we don't have to worry about that since if we put a good atmosphere on it by terraforming, it would last several million years.
I saw the title and thought this was gonna be about drone combat for hobbyists, like Robot Wars, and I was like sweeeet!
