Yup. South Dakota requires a photo ID to vote. Unfortunately that requirement apparently qualifies as "racist," because not all Native Americans have drivers' licenses. All sorts of activists whined about that for a long time after it was enacted 2 years ago.
Of course the best part is, the ID really isn't necessary. If you don't have it you just sign a waiver saying, "Yes I really am so-and-so," and they let you vote. The law basically says: "You must bring a photo ID to the polling place. But if you don't, that's OK too, we'll still let you vote, no problem."
3) Mac has had full right click support for years for all multi-button mice. If you have the (superb) Mighty Mouse, go to System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse and set the right button to behave as a right click.
Wait.
Let me get this straight - you buy a "Mighty Mouse," and then you have to tell your computer - your shiny, fancy, impossibly-perfect Mac - you have to tell it, "A right-click is a right-click"?!?!?
The beta servers were capped at 25 players -- and even then the lag was so bad that it could easily be compared to a bad day on WoW, when the server is full and you are near a bank!
Wrong.
There was no limit to the number of people who could be playing on a given shard - there were 3, IIRC, "Atrus", "Catherine", and "Achenar" - but there was a limit of 25 people in the City at any given time. The city was only one part of the virtual world; access to the other Ages and the Neighborhoods was unlimited.
As far as lag goes, it's pretty much agreed that it was more dependent on your computer than on the network. My machine bogged down a bit at times, particularly in the City (actually it wasn't the city proper, it was Ae'gura, but that's a technicality) but it was never to the levels that some people whined about.
I, for one, am incredibly glad to hear that Cyan's making another go at all of this.
Well, uploading that MP3 - legally obtained or not - is a violation of copyright laws. And if that MP3 is in a "filesharing" directory, it's a reasonable assumption that it's being uploaded. That's how these programs work, after all.
Here in South Dakota, every school - yes, every school - is tied into a state-run network, and every school has been wired internally so that every room, yes every room, has access to that network. Sure, it cost quite a bit to implement, but that was the Governor's pet project for years.
Actually, it doesn't matter what I think -- there is no evidence to suggest that people will pay for anything they can obtain for free, unless they are hoodwinked into it.
Women friends of mine tell me that abortion is not a thing they take lightly (i.e. that the decision is a very hard one and the procedure is quite painful). They also tell me that this negates the "abortion used as birth control" argument.
Of course, I've heard from my women friends that the procedure is actually rather painless. And, do tell, if it's not being used for birth control, then what exactly is abortion being used for?
You've given your opinion. I hope you'll allow me to state mine:
I don't want to force any woman to carry a child in her womb that she does not wish to carry. In cases of rape, then, I am not opposed to abortion. (At least not very.) In any situation where the woman willfully went out one night and got herself knocked up? That's a different story.
If you don't want a kid - if you don't want to carry it - I'm not going to force you to carry it, meaning I'm not going to make you get pregnant. Once you get yourself pregnant, once you make the decision to put that child there, and contrary to your opinion I believe it is a child from the moment of implantation in the uterine wall, that child should stay there until he/she is ready to come out.
The joy of my viewpoint is that it allows the child to live. Would you be OK with it if your mom had decided to abort you, it being "her decision" and all? Oh. Wait. She didn't.
There is no valid reason that could be given to justify those action. Also its an embarssement that one of the biggest peacefull event on the planet would be name and associated with those murders and it even worst when the fact is that it would blame other nations who I am sure are not in anyway shape or form related to the murderers who commited those reprhensible acts.
It's humor, man. Nobody seriously thinks it's French people upset about the Olympics.
Humor can often be created by juxtaposing a ridiculous idea in place of a serious one. In this case, we replace the evil horrible terrorists who did commit these heinous acts with the French who are of course miffed that they lost the Games. Of course France isn't going to blow up London because of it - it's the ridiculousness of the suggestion that makes it funny.
As for the rest of your post(s), there's no arguing with you. Plus your grammar/punctuation hurts my brain.
I see and respect your sickeningly low UID. Nonetheless, I think you're totally mistaken here.
Before you can walk you have to learn to crawl. Right now there are issues with even the simple stuff, like you said - these robots fail to track a GPS path while staying on the road. Surely you don't think that all 100+ teams just didn't put enough effort into that one aspect? So they have to ask, "Why?" What problems were being encountered? How can they be resolved? These are the simple issues that must be identified, solved, refined, etc.
Sure, your concept is much cooler and definitely more useful. All the same, it's obviously not completely feasible at this point.
we will no longer be able to play DVDs on computers at all, or only in some kind of `trusted computing' environment which will `protect' us from copying them to disk
Until CSS was cracked, that's about how it was. Remember? Linux people not having DVD player software 'cos they didn't have a CSS key?
Until CSS was cracked.
Any DRM, any encryption, any technological terrors the ??AA can construct WILL be cracked. Not might, but WILL be cracked. It's totally foolish to think otherwise.
I wouldn't expect some pennyless farmer in a rural area to have a DSL connection.
And yet we do. OK, ok, so we're not "pennyless," but plenty of farmers in MY rural area (SE South Dakota) have DSL connections. They're really not that much more expensive than dialup, and pretty widely available considering the crappy population density around here.
(I guess it would work better w/ proper line breaks, huh? Stupid submit-button-on-right...)
The following IS correct:
If (a = b) Then
b = c
End If
The following is NOT correct (and will cause a compile error):
If (a = b) Then b = c
End If

Wow.
So you don't have a use for a $10 sandbox tool, huh? I guess the simplest course of action then would be for you to not buy it.
Wrong.

What does "logic" have to do with this?
We're talking about the MPAA and their ilk. I'm not entirely sure they've ever heard of this "logic" of which you speak.
Um, they ranked the new BSG #2.
Ooops. Didn't read that closely enough.
Product of a public education, I guess.

... and we'll all watch as you're thrown in pound-me-in-the-ass federal prison for violating the DMCA.
Heheh, now ya just need to "Hot Coffee" Barbara once or twice to keep your guns. ^_^
That. Is. Awesome.
How old is this kid?
Not every state.

Too bad it never really got off the ground.

Pretty damn nice of her, eh?

Come on mods... that wasn't off topic at all. Haven't you seen that stupid AOL ad where the guy's dumping crap on the guy's sandwich?
Sure, it's a dumb commercial: nonetheless, GP asked "why pay another $15" and Parent told him why. Ergo NOT offtopic.
I swore I'd never say this, but...
Mod Parent Up!
+1 Funny? That's it? Come on! That's genius right there! Oh, what I wouldn't give for some mod points right now...
