  8. Left hand not knowing what the right is doing. on Dell To Techs: Don't Help Customers Remove Spyware · · Score: 2, Informative

Dell technicians can and will install Spybot or Adaware rather than going through a whole reinstall. Remember that there are multiple divisions of Dell Tech Support and that there are multiple sites where techs are located. Just because a "memo" (which is just a glorified email) is sent out doesn't mean it's officially the stance of Dell. Remember, these techs want off the phones as quickly as possible and installing Spybot is much faster than a reinstall. I happen to know "official" support policy and currently it doesn't say anything about any Spyware removal software, but Dell's official stance on reccomending third-party software is to say "This program and this program are both good for this kind of thing" rather than endorse just one.

  9. Re:Read the Forking articles! on SSC Trademark Threats vs LinuxGazette.net · · Score: 1

I read the articles linked but they didn't give that side of the story. This could be very much looked at as a fork of the site with the company "running" it wanting to keep their name.
The article colored it as you are but gave no supporting documentation. I wish there were other linked articles that gave a more balanced view of what's happening with the issue.

Apparently a group of volunteers has decided to fork the Linux Gazzette website and didn't bother to change the name of it. This doesn't sound like a big draconian company taking over a volunteer publication and beginning to sue everyone in site. It's more of a proper use of trademark law to me.
