To be honest it's actually a pretty fair way for Comcast to serve the majority of customers. When downloading a normal file off the internet, you get way higher that the 6 mbps you're paying for. For files smaller than 20MB or so, they fly down the line. For the rest, you get knocked back to 6 after 10-15 seconds.
Now ignoring the fact that yes, the state of broadband in the U.S. sucks and 6 mbps being "good" is unfortunate, SpeedBoost is actually a nifty thing.
I had Comcast (Chicago area) and actually didn't notice the problems people talk about while torrenting. I don't know if it's because of tighter competition here or not. I now have WOW and am paying a little less for pretty much the same thing.
Oh, but the best are the new musical commercials about the "Big Old Expensive" phone company. These confuse the hell out of me. Because when I think of being saved from high prices and huge unsavory corporations, Comcast is the company for me....shyeah right.
Grumble grumble stupid Comcast grumble come on Verizon want FiOS...
Sorry, I meant web developers. When I'm making a web page I care that the browser correctly interprets what I'm telling it. I don't care how it interprets the incorrect syntax that I'm not going to use.
I understand making everything incorrect work predictably too, but it seems like a waste to be worrying about that when there are so many cool CSS features unimplemented - across all browsers.
Part of the test is to see how the browser handles invalid markup/css/whatever, which is why I don't see why ACID is so highly regarded. Developers who care about a browser following standards shouldn't care how it deals with incorrect stuff. I know I don't.
There's stuff like this to "deshake" video. I don't know how easy it is to use or how it would work for an entire movie. I imagine when the DVD comes out someone with a lot of time may attempt it:) The problem is this movie was SO shaky in parts that frames 1 second apart won't even share ANY part of the scene.
That or this horrible "jerking the camera around makes the audience feel like there there!!1!" fad in film making could just die a quick death and I'd be happy. For the record, I don't think this movie would have worked without it. I actually tried picturing it shot like a normal movie and it would have been completely different, most likely for the worse.
Umm....exactly? Blur is a result of shutter speed, not compression. Broadcast HDTV does not have the bandwidth for a perfect picture and shows plenty of artifacts. HD DVD/Blu-ray is pristine.
Oh come on, Sony has ALWAYS stolen ideas in the videogame realm. I don't know anything they've come up with on their own.
PS1 Controller - Slight variation on SNES...STILL!!! Analog sticks - Saturn and N64 had first Rumble - N64 CD-ROM - Eh, no credit, logical advance and Sega did it too
PS2 Hard drive - Microsoft Online - Microsoft and Sega 4 controller ports - Oh wait they didn't even copy that! Ridiculous that PS2 didn't have 4
Sony's success is based entirely on business decisions as opposed to what they actually turn out. Though I mostly blame my beloved Sega. If they hadn't borked the Saturn so bad, PSX never would have gained traction (IMHO), though Nintendo and the N64 cartridge didn't help either. After that, the PS2 hype train ensured success. Had Sony released Dreamcast and Sega PS2, Sony's Dreamcast would have won. It really pisses me off that Sony is on top (well we'll see now) while bringing nothing substantial to the table.
Oh come on now. I get a sick pleasure out of all of the Sony FUD (the word is Schadenfreude) but this is just stupid. If 1000 people trade their PS3 for a Wii, guess how many people are trading their Wii for a PS3? Hmm...1000?
For normal browsing, yes, 11b is all you need. But its actual throughput in my experience is around 1 or 2 mbps, which can limit internet connections (I routinely get 4-6mbps over cable with BitTorrent) but more importantly file transfers over the network like streaming video. And if you use a lot of network storage even 11g is pretty painful.
WOW, not WoW. Sorry, forgot they're a regional ISP. I wouldn't touch WoW with a ten foot pole.

Well the mods are on your side so I guess you're okay. And now this thread has been long enough so I say good day sir!
Ha, that's actually what made me think you were clueless :)
Y'know, I almost added a disclaimer just in case you were failing miserably at being sarcastic. Sorry.
Wow. Well done. WSAD is a development IDE. Maybe you should understand the context of posts you reply to.

Analogies without cars are like cars without radios. Sure, they work, but do you really want one?
Everything still blurs during motion and pans.

20 bucks a month! Why not just get something like No-IP?
In Soviet Russia, DRM-free music shares you!
apologies...
WarCraft III had this. You had to make a custom keys text file which the game would then read and use. This is a frontend to make that file:

Xvid is an implementation of MPEG4.
Added MPEG-4 Part 2 video support: Up to 8 Mbps, Simple Profile with 2 channel AAC LC and Main Profiles.
Just curious, if certified Draft 2.0 devices are guaranteed compliant with the final standard, how is Draft 2.0 not final?

Well if nothing else this thread has shown us that Slashdotters are remarkably good at multiplying by 3. Good job guys.
Man, this administration sure is giving the Your Rights Online category an offline workout...
