I have had someone comment on my blog about this very subject, they had problems getting a second monitor to work on their machine, and I have heard other people say that when they did get a second monitor working, the windows were not decorated and they had to type metacity & in a terminal to get that to work. I thought it was pretty easy to get dual monitors working, but maybe not. Surely this is something that should be fixed.

I hated the speed of the Ubuntu system and I switched over to a KDE 4.6 / Gnome 2.32 Gentoo system. I have not looked back since. But yes, to reply to the parent comment above, yes there are issues with dual monitor support in Ubuntu 11.04, hopefully this can be resolved soon considering the popularity of dual monitors nowadays.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/661450 This is a link to the bug report concerning dual monitor support in Ubuntu. The comment I got was concerning zaphod mode, I am not sure what that is but it is something that needs fixing.

I used Redhat 6.2 as an alternative to Windows `98 and I was astounded how much better it worked compared to the aforementioned Windows POS that was BSOD and virus prone. Then I moved on to Mandrake 9.2 and then Mandrake 10. The ATI drivers included with linux gave me slightly higher resolutions and color depths than the Windows drivers on my Dell Optiplex machine. Of course I use Ubuntu now, but when FreeBSD has proper support for the integrated graphics in the i3 CPU then I will be moving to that OS.

All I can say after that though is thank god for Linux.

This sounds like a good way to get somewhere fast, but what about slowing down? The Daedalus probe was to shoot past Barnards star and send out probes to examine the planet, but the actual craft would just keep on going into deep space maybe forever. But if we want to ever see the planets orbiting distant stars then we need to move away from chemical rockets and into more exotic forms of propulsion. Sure we may not have Star Trek Warp Drive, but we can at least send the V,Ger probe into space and make our mark on the universe. Maybe we could catch up with the Voyager probe and bring it back to Earth.
