Likewise rather than coming up with something as entertaining as Zelda: Wind Waker or something as inovative as the Sony I-Toy, the X-Box trains young people to be psychopathic cop killers. Just go down to Wal-Mart and count the number of M rated vs. E rated (and sports titles don't count) games. In other words X-Box offers nothing but crap.

I agree that it is a parent's responsibility to monitor what games their kids play. However, there are a lot of parents who either don't mind, or don't know. So in that sense I think that the developers for any game that is readily available at a common store, say Wal-Mart, should take responsibility for the content of a game.

That's an interesting theory, but in all seriousness, I just don't like games that emulates such evil behavior. We as humans, whether on the right or the left, instinctivly know that murdering is wrong. We pay taxes to protect our cities with cops, why make a game that involves murdering them?

But GTA goes a step beyond that. Prostitution is a desperate profession. It's something people do when they are poor and have no idea how to make money otherwise. To have a game that shows them being murderd and thus despite their desperation, they are killed in cold blood is cruel.

I suppose it would be cool in "the right" not to like GTA, but I've never worried about being cool. :) Believe it or not, there are people who just aren't entertained that way. I personally like games such as Mario or Sonic. The most violent game I'd play is something like Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts.

Step 1: GTA player downloads online capability.
Step 2: GTA player starts shooting other players online.
Step 3: GTA player no longer desires to kill hookers and cops, but other badguys.
Step 4: Since videogames influence behavior, there are less Cop shootings and more GTA player shootings in real life!
Step 5: Less GTA players means less profits.
Step 6: Rockstar sells company to "Big Idea" since they no longer make money.
Step 7: "Big Idea" starts making really cool VeggieTales games using Rockstar's old resources!!! :)

  17. Re:Here's my suggestion on Illinois Videogame Law Moves Forward · · Score: 1

...which I hear all the time: games are for kids. Games are not for kids

At one point, games were for kids. After videogames died out in the early `80s and was brought back again in the mid 80`s by Nintendo, most gamers were kids. Adults didn't have as much interest in games. Since they have been producing game consoles since the time of NES, gamers grew up with videogames. Unfortunately, this has confused game makers into thinking that all we want is sex and violence in our games.

But even if most games are not for kids, then I would like to see strong laws like the one in Illinois. I think that would be a stronger argument for strict ratings. I'd like to stop hearing on the news that a kid stole a car and shot a few police officers and then the kid blaming it on GTA. I think bad games are harmful to a developing mind.

I personally use the current rating system to help me by games and I don't have kids. I don't like super violent games. Thus I usually only by E rated games and some T rated games.

I'm trying to figure out why morality constitutes closed minds. I personally feel that it is pretty closed minded to think that just because something is "good" it is not good for you.

I think parents should be able to determine every minute detail of bad stuff in a movie. If a parent really don't want to glorify lies then that's their choice. If they don't want to glorify facial piercing then that's their choice.

I'm a grown man, but I don't like hearing four letter words in every other sentence. I don't mind tatoos and piercings, but there are those who do. That's their choice. People should be free to choose JudeoChristian values just as they are free to choose values that permit having mass orgies and kids using four letter words. I don't understand liberals until I saw one tear down a conservative ad on a buliton board and deface another one. The liberal idea is this, "You are open to choose your lifestyle as long as we (the liberals) approve of it."

  22. Re:Excellent. on ESRB Adds New 'Tween' Rating · · Score: 5, Insightful

I don't think parents are overprotected; I think they are being cautious. Of course I would rather see a more complex rating system for movies and games. Basically it could have on the front of the box something like this:

    l **
    i *
    v *
    e
    s ***

That is v is violence, s is sexual themes, l is language, e is for evil or demonic themes, and i is illegal or harmful behavior. Then underneath it could highlight some of the things parents should be cautious about in the movie or game.

Thus we can take a game such as Zelda.
    l
    i
    v **
    e *
    s
    Contains Mild Fantasy Violence
    Contains Ghosts

Parents can then judge right away whether the want that game. Just as another example we can take Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
    l *
    i *
    v **
    e *
    s *
    Contains Mild Lyrics
    Contains Resisting Authorities
    Contains Fantasy Violence
    Contains Sports like Violence
    Contains Mild Romantic Themes

If we used a rating system like that, parents could more easily pick out the right movie/games for thier kids based upon their moral values of what kids should be exposed to.

I know that if I would have submitted such a story, it would have been rejected before I clicked submit. Anyway, about the shroud.... Who cares? I really don't care if it was Jesus's or not. There is enough evidence out there that says that there was a man named Jesus and that he performed miracles. In addition to that, there are enough prophsies in the old testament (written a very long time before Jesus) that point out that if this whole God was true then Jesus is the Mesiah. Read the book of Isaiah sometime. Isaiah 7 says that as a sign Mesiah would be born of a virgin. Isaiah 53 details how he will die and for what reason. These aren't like the horroscopes in the National Enquirer, these are very specific prophsies that did come to pass. But like most logical thinkers, we can pass this all off as a coincidence just like we pass off all miracles we see every day. ("I survived the car wreak! What a coincidence. Praise be to luck and chance that I may have it!") So who cares if this thing is real or fake. I don't. I know the following: 1: I'm a screw up 2: There's nothing I can do to change that 3: Screw ups don't go to Heaven on their own 4: It's a good thing I have a Savior to pay the price for me.
