They responded to a writer's guild strike by putting on reality tv shows and game shows - which turned out to be really popular, and thus left them a way to get out of paying for writers, actors, etc.
I think they don't want to increase the number of mp3s available on p2p - at the moment on Kazaa for new tracks there are many more fakes than real ones, but if you could legally buy the non-fakes (instead of having to go through the effort of ripping them), it might increase the number of non-fakes on p2p. Just a thought.
Of all the things on slashdot, it bothers you that I've got a lot to learn?
I may have made an exaggeration - what I meant is that Turkey is opposed to any idea of a Kurdistan in Iraq, because the Turkish Kurds may want to join with them, and they live in a valuable area of Turkey. Now, the Iraqi Kurds may be different than the Turkish Kurds, but that doesn't mean that Turkey isn't still opposed to any kind of Kurdistan.
The Shia, while they may practice somewhat differently from the Iranian Shia, also practice somewhat differently from oh, let's say the Kurds and Sunnis. Is the chance of them forming a political union with the Kurds and Sunni also a big fat zero?
Was the way this was sold by the neocons at least a bit more ignorant than my post?
In the next few years we'll all be learning a lot, about an area that even people who know about don't know much. I appreciate your willingness to enlighten, but I wasn't just pulling this out of my ass.
Even a neocon can remember that Iraq has always balanced Iran, that it was about the worst place to invade (because it was divided yugoslavia style between three different groups, one of which wanted to undermine Turkey by forming Kurdistan, one of which would likely want to join Iran), and that we already had them under our thumb.
I'm a libertarian, but I've sided with liberals more than conservatives in this war.
I wonder how many handwriting analysis like this would find that the person was totally sane and untroubled despite the fact that I can't imagine that would provide much publicity or sell many papers?
At the same time, it doesn't really give me any reason to pay for the music when I can get it for free online, does it? Maybe I'm solving market inefficiencies by destroying the system.
Bart: [over the radio] Rod! Todd! This is God!
Rod: How did you get on the radio?
Bart: Whaddya mean, how did I get on the radio? I created the universe!
Stupid kid.
Todd+Rod: [fall to their knees and clasp their hands]
Todd: Forgive my brother. We believe you.
Bart: Talk is cheap. Perhaps I'll test a guy's faith. Walk through the wall! I will remove it for you.
Rod: [walks into the wall] [thud]
Bart: Ha ha ha.
Todd+Rod: [return to their knees in prayer]
Todd: What do you want from us?
Bart: I got a job for you. Bring forth all the cookies from your kitchen and leave them on the Simpsons' porch.
Rod: But those cookies belong to our parents.
Bart: Ugh! Look, do you want a happy God or a vengeful God?
Todd: [quickly] Happy God.
Bart: Then quit flapping your lip and make with the cookies!
Todd+Rod: Yes, sir!
Intellectual discourse is nice and all, but on slashdot, make sure you keep your comic books straight.
The hard news is somewhat opinionated in the NYT too though. Liberal sometimes, conservative others (they seemed to have a problem with Clinton, for one. read up on it on Salon if you want.) Better than Fox, but any news source is generally preaching to its own choir.
While I agree in part, you have to be able to do something with the kids when a teacher can't command that respect, and if it starts early enough they learn disrespect as a default position. The problem is that in America most of what the schools seem to be is a place to send children while their parents work. Imagine how poorly your theology teacher might have done if she couldn't do anything to the kids - it wouldn't have made her into your history teacher.
The real problem with outsourcing is that we are training the rest of the world to do our jobs better. We create labor forces that will eventually undermine our own national economic security. I don't think that Americans are innately entitled to these jobs, but that's really not how national security works.

It's alright, it was the rural poor and middle class that voted for him anyway. Besides, the benefits will travel here, even if the research doesn't, it just puts American industry behind the rest of the world.

Well, since it's years out of date, and only the most basic information, yes, I love the idea.

Why would God descend? We are his game.
Maybe it's a beaten horse by now, but . . .

Homer: Oh Lisa! There's no record of a hurricane ever hitting Springfield.
Lisa: Yes, but the records only go back to 1978 when the Hall of Records was mysteriously blown away.

Yeah, but with the way I look at things, they weren't modded high enough. I got nothing but Bush was right and abortions are wicked.
