It looks like its AMD who have to play catch up now.

For many many people out there I'm sure that there are many more important factors to decide on when choosing a bank rather than your favourite browser just not working on it.
My bank (Barclays, UK) happens to work fine with Firefox, but I would fire IE up through Wine if I had to.

The fact is everything works in IE and I can understand the UK not having as many Firefox users as people in the UK just don't seem to care that there might be something better out there. I've seen really bad Windows XP desktops that are ridden with popups and spyware. Us British just keep a 'stiff upper lip' under these conditions and try and work around them!

I use MSN Messenger while at work and Gaim at home 100% of the time. It's very annoying when someone tries to nudge you or send you a wink and you have to make that horrible excuse. It's not a good thing, especially when I'm trying to trumpet the Linux platform.

Gaim's tabbed interface IS great. There are many things about Gaim thats great, but it's interface is too much like AIM and there are a couple of annoyances such as: 1. You can't see your own picture in the chat window. You have to go through two dialogues before you can preview/change it! 2. Avartars/Icons belong on the left of the contact list - not the right where someone's long MSN name forces it off view with a scrollbar.

I know I should be making these comments on the Gaim bug/feedback forums, but I know for a fact many of these requests get ignored. I actually think the fonts look nice in Gaim, despite what someone else said on here during the previous IM topic.

It just may take a while to convince developers to implement the 'annoying' MSN features so that the rest of the users out there can come on board.

Absolutely. The problem is not with the xine backend or the decryption libraries etc.. but with Totem itself. It often refuses to auto play my dvd-rom drive (as xine or mplayer does).
If you do ever manage to get a dvd-rom to play, the navigation slider is innacurate, and skipping forwards or backwards often causes the audio to go horribly out of sync, although I'm not sure if that is more to do with GStreamer.

For most media files though, Totem is fine and I'm looking forward to the improved DVD capabilities coming with Gnome 2.12.

Strangely enough, I only noticed this today while looking through my logs that there have been a number of attempts on my system within the last couple of months. It seems there must be some script going around because the same usernames that the article lists also appear in my logs.

I was a little worried and decided to look around the web to see what I could do. I heard a couple of mentions of disabling password authentication and going for something like RSA public key authentication instead. This means the client provides a public key that the server already allows through and the client proves it's the owner of the public key by signing something with it's private key. This is more secure, but it's not possible to connect from an unknown client easily.

Another interesting way of increasing security is to implement a port-knocking strategy.. I'm not sure myself how much effort this would take, but again, it does perhaps make connecting from secure clients more difficult.

After looking into that, my solution was to simply change my passwords to non-dictionary words. But with the ever increasing CPU power and distributed networks out there, how long before memorable passwords fail altogether?
