The simple fact of the matter is that upgrading from Windows 2k to Windows XP, doesn't offer much, a server running Windows 2003 Server, can still operate the same without switching the clients to Windows XP. Windows 2000 also takes uses less hardware requirements, and if it runs all their programs with ease, why would they risk switching to a new OS with problems? Then there is the fact of security Windows 2k has been around about 5 years, its going to have less exploits then a system like XP which can have more potential security flaws, then ones that been around longer.
.wmv is horrible format I'm sure you seen the files where if you open up in windows media player you it launches a bunch of IE browsers, more then likely containing porn, now what stops these websites from contain malware I'm forced to keep IE on my machine because of some sites that don't work with firefox (my college site doesn't support firefox well) and now I'm almost being forced to use it because windows media player automatically triggers these pages to display and load. For this reason alone I switched to windows media player classic and I recommend it to anyone over the normal Windows Media player.
Why can't these companies use a normal format like.mp3? For these programs its not hard for the average user to convert the song there are many available, I understand if there doing this to keep other users from sharing the music but its really not that hard to continue to share after they convert the file, so why not just use the format that everyone knows how to use?
If Linux and Windows both appeared on PDAs? What stops apple from moving to PDA, and then cell phones, I am more then sure they have already thought about it and brainstormed ways they can do this effectively.

I read this and instantly started thinking about this exactly how many window users can maintain there windows box properly? 90% of the users out there have no idea how to keep there windows updated, how to reinstall windows. The only difference is that Windows came preloaded on their machines. Now this is the only difference between the two operating systems. If a Linux machine came preloaded on a computer already with all the drivers installed it is the same exact thing on how people get their machines from dell.

nah, text messaging was so popular back in High School (2 years ago) just due to the fact you could send a message nice and stealthy and not make it obvious what you where doing the recipient(s) of the message could also very easily check it when they could (i.e. when the teacher's back was turned or when they where not paying attention)
Well my salary is less then $20k a year (miltary) but you can be damn sure that my inner geek in me made sure I had a fast computer and broadband before I ever thought about getting a car.
This is true that some movie theaters enforce the R rating however like the movie theater back in home Never enforced the rule, and now they have a more legit way of doing it that you can now have your parent sign a consent form which entitles you for a "R" movie card which just allows any one with the card presented to admit them into the movie, and since most people under 16 and under don't have idea you can just pass the card along and just say your name is the name on the card and they really have no way to vertify that is actually them..... Most parents really don't care about movie rating past the age of 8.....

I'm currently taking Human Sexuality as a elective in college right now and when they went over pedophiles, the teacher and book stated just like you said there is no way truly to "cure" them they can only undergo treatment to help suppress the urges, In a way its like if someone told you can't have sex with your partner and it was a crime, now even if you knew this your body will still have the urge to do it, for someone who goes after little kids I imagine this same urge is what mostly gets them in trouble.
With that being said if you commit a crime against a child (under 12 years of age), and you are convicted in my view you should be gunned down the moment you are proved guilty, If I had children I wouldn't feel safe having these people around, the percentage of people that commit these crimes as second offenders is outrageous so I really don't have any pitty.
If your parents are anything like mine do what I do install Linux (personally I gave her SUSE has a very easy learning curve), Give them Open Office, Firefox, and create nice shortcuts for them to use.. I'm in the military so I only go home about every 4-5 months, every time I went home I would find a computer that I was forced to reformat and reinstall windows on it again, I tried to make it as easy as possible, I installed Firefox, Spybot S & D, adaware and tried teaching my mother on what is safe to do and what is not safe to do on the internet, but yet every time I came home the machine was always too infected to bother to clean , so I would be forced to reformat. Well since my mother is on Linux I have yet to do any work on her computer when I come home to see her =)

I take it you never played Morowind, If you play that game you will notice loading takes alont longer because the game constantly checks to see if your disc is in the game (Safedisc) which hangs the system at certain points if you play with it on and load times increase, I disabled it because of that reason and you almost instantly see a system performance increase.
How long before they hits the Warez, Is it me or does it seem like M$ is just shooting themselves in the foot by not selling it retail since many will seek "other" ways of obtaining the product?
/shrug I need the calc all the time so all that is needed is Windows Key + R , type in calc and press enter but then again I'm one to not use the mouse unless I have to.
It may seem like this is a fair solution but I can almost grantee you don't play any MMORPG, These games you need the time to learn your class I'm an avid player of everquest and you can tell when someone bought their character, most of the time these people are greedy, selfish, don't care about anyone else. If 20 people die because they decide to run for their lives and train the entire zone they'll do these people are why I can't stand doing anything else then the people I'm friends with in games.
Also not to mention you then have people camping/farming a single spot over and over and over again because they can sell the item for real cash it never lets a person get the real item the right way.
think about the uses to which you can put that underlying code, which is now all open source. now imagine what will happen when someone takes this open source code and perverts it into a complete ID theft tool. what will the M$ press release look like then?
