What does the summary mean by saying "the awesomely named Helsingin Sanomat website"? Is it perhaps the typo "Helsingen Sanomat" in the actual article? Something else? I really don't know what's so awesome about it. "Sanomat" is just a word meaning newspaper in finnish. Just like in "The New York Times" or "The Sydney Morning Herald". City name and newspaper suffix. Nothing else.

  17. For getting rid of BSODs, fs lock-in on Why Do People Switch To Linux? · · Score: 1

The main initial reason for my switch was my win 2k throwing a BSOD whenever I put the Sneakers DVD into the DVD drive :) I didn't want to pay for XP and check, whether that would have worked. (And yes, I tried every possibly way to fix this; reainstalled windows completely, installed necessary patches and drive firmware, with no success.) So I made a dual-boot machine by installing SuSE Linux. After a short while I realized that keeping a 40 gig vfat partition for sharing data between the OS'es was something I didn't like. I wanted an interoperable, journaling rw filesystem, but couldn't achieve it. So I said "Fuck this" and little by little transferred all the data to Linux side. It was hard in the beginning (had to switch Ati graphics card to nVidia) but eventually everything worked out ok.

  18. Re:It's not that it's hard on Fighting FUD with Humor · · Score: 1

Lets say you play games which are accessed via Valve's Steam platform; games like Half-Life 2 or Counter-Strike:Source. Then Valve makes yet another stupid update through Steam and breaks your Cedega version operability with those games. This has happened in the past and will happen many times in the future. Personally, my HL2 and CS:S games have been in unplayable state since Steam update on 10th of August. New Cedega versions haven't cured the problem for me. But I don't complain, as I had a great summer playing those games. Maybe the upcoming Cedega 5 fixes this for some time. Valve could also cater more for Linux users, and port the games natively to Linux. Would it be too hard?

    2. Get her username and host and ssh in to the same machine.
    3. last | grep -i username | head -n 5
    4. Check remote host for her connection; if it represents a machine in a computer classroom, hop in and say "hi" to start a conversation :) Or just sit quietly in the back row and occasionally get a glimpse of her beauty *sigh*

This reminds me of one day, when I was reading my access_logs and discovered that some bastard was hotlinking to a "Powered by SuSE" png button on my server. He had placed the image in his .sig on some forum and didn't bother to host the pic in his own web-space. I wanted to teach him a lesson, and thus the "Powered by Goatse" image was born. After setting Apache to serve the new picture instead, requests dropped dramatically during the next week :)

I don't mind actual users spoofing their Referers, but the situation is IMHO a bit different when there are multiple machines doing automated referer spamming at a rate of, say 400 requests per minute. Even though it is not likely to be illegal to spoof Referer headers, the aforementioned situation could be easily interpreted as a criminal offence, at least where I live.

And I'm also missing a directory-based file explorer which I am used to using in the custom software I play mp3's with on my server.
