The debate over human stem cell usage is not a debate over stem cells, it is a debate over where the stem cells are derived from. This is the debate.
I agree completely with the first point. It seems that "epmbryonic stem cells" has been shortened to just plain "stem cells" by the media, and people in general. Where on purpose or it just happened. Also, Bush et al has NOT banned embryonic research, he/they have just withdrawn federal funds for it.
There is evidence that embryonic cells can be used to do it.
To this I would have to say that for me, it doesn't matter. I personally would not want treatments derived from embrionic research, even if it were the only thing that had been shown to work. Somewhere, somebody died (not of their own free will) to save me.
Please, if you are American and want to further advance science, do not let him get re-elected. He is hindering the advance of a field and many people may benefit from the research if it can be conducted. Go and vote!!!
What he is doing is not making me pay for research with embryonic cells. I am thankful for that. If private companies choose to use them, that is their affair. No law against that. Now, if the public in general wants to allow government support of such research, perhaps that will be shown by Tuesday's happenings. I pray they don't.

Then you had this system that was running *in* liquid!
Before that was the Cray-2 (a.k.a World's most expensive aquarium")? In case anybody's interested, I believe they used Fluorinert as the liquid, as it wouldn't swell the PC boards, short anything out, or cause anything to corrode.
A note, the Cray-3 was created by Cray Computer Corporation of Colorado, whereas the Cray-1 was made by Cray Research of Wisconsin. In ~1990, Seymore wanted to start working on computers using gallium arsenide instead of silicon, since they could switch faster. Cray Research didn't want to try anything so revolutionary, so Seymore headed to Colorado with a group of people and started CCC. Unfortunately, they apparently made exactly one Cray-3, then folded.
Forgot to mention... the points are presently written on a piece of paper and in a OOo spread sheet (yeah, I know...). NOT in the GPS anymore, as I had to return it to my brother.
So, I recently took a trip through part of Europe and took a number (~35) of GPS readings. Is there any decent (GPL) software that will take all those points(LAT, LONG, Date/Time, Alt.) and give me a map of the area I covered? Presently, my plan is to use mapquest's LAT/LONG service and a bash/perl script to pull the various maps and overlay them until I get something useful. Fun as a project to see if I can, but time-consuming.
And if you'd RTFA, you'd know that they reviewed footage from Fox News, the preeminent right-leaning news channel.
I call straw-man. I heard about this a few days ago, and checked out my taped copy from PBS. It was the same video. I expect EVERYBODY would have the same video shots. If not, I'd love to see it from another angle. From my videotape, it looks like paper.
After reading the above blurb about putting it on a 2x2 grid, I had a strong image of Robin Williams at the board drawing graphs as the student read, then afterward saying 'excrement', or some such. I expect that in the case of this decision-making thing, it can actually make sense to use the method. For judging poetry, though, no.
Also, I agree with the posts elsewhere- my first thought on the topic WAS the movies.
It turns out he forgot to define the variable he used, so instead of printing 1 copy, it got stuck in a loop of printing.
As mentioned above this was during a class, which had a laser printer that printed at least 5 sheets a second.
Reminds me of a story my old prof told the class once. For all I know, this is one of those stories that gets circulated everywhere. I'll assume it's actually from him.
Anyway, he was around when students needed to submit batch files as stacks of cards for the computer to read. You'd submit your stack at this end, then walk down to the other end of the system, where if all went correctly, your results would print out.
He explained that one day he was in line, and one of his friends submitted his stack, and apparently didn't proof some part of the program correctly. Once it was read by the computer, it got to one section where it just started generating linefeeds. So, that's what the printer did. Unfortunately, it was a line printer. A fast one. Creating a 5- or 6-foot arc of paper until it was shut off. Oops.
Beg to differ... at least my wife would. I have approximately a dozen IIgses, and at least that many older IIs (II+ to IIe platinum) as well as a number of monitors, keyboards, etc. Saved them from the dump. Plan to start selling them off one of these days...
OK, so do they mean employed as an admin? I haven't done that in about 1 1/2 years, but I am employed at Target. So do I take the employed version, or the unemployed version? And yes, I'm trying to find an admin job.
But I'm sure a lot of them will gladly receive new operations/medicines/treatments that were made possible by stem cell research.
Personally, I would not if the were from fetuses. If, however, they are using my onw stem cells, as somebody else posted, I would have no problems what-so-ever.
Kind of along those lines, I've heard that adult's stem cells are far less likely to cause complications that fetus stem cells, especially in adults. Sorry, no info to back that up.
we know the republican shenanigans in florida won the presidential election.
I am getting so tired of reading this. As I understand it, Gore shot himself in the foot. If he had asked for a recount for the whole state, he would have won. Instead he decided he only wanted a recount of the counties where he thought he should have won, but didn't. Ironically, those counties Bush would hve won anyway.
I could be wrong on some of those details, but that is how I remeber the whole thing.
To add a bit to this, I have been told (sorry, don't have any info on details, I'll see if I can find some) that during this period of Earth's rise in global tempratures, Mars is also warming by a similar amount (given that it is farther from the sun, and all that). So, this global warming seems to have very little, if anything, to do with "green house" gases.
You know why it's so hot? It's because of the enormous quantities of uranium within it that is undergoing radioactive decay.
I was under the impression that it was due to the immense pressures from all of the material above (crust, etc.) I suppose it could just as easily be a combination of the two? Thoughts everybody?
ScanRec is one I've found rather useful. It isn't an end-all/be-all recorder, but it does have a rather useful feature. It was created with a VOX control originally to be used for recording ham sessions. So, it would not record constantly, but only when anybody brodcast. It will create a log file detailing what times it did the recordings. Anyway, I've used it for radio/TV stuff in the past, and I've had few problems with it (other than recording in a format that Media Player didn't really like.
Slightly OT, but I have a different use for WIMP, or more precisely WiMP. It's how I shorten Windows Media Player on my desktop when I'm in MS's Windows.

Seymore Cray was quite the Übergeek.

So, just exactly who IS "./" ?
Og, what the heck... FP
In $deity's name WHY?!?
Seems to me that it doesn't lead to the afore mentioned question, but answers it: Nothing IS in fact sacred.

OK, anybody else have visions of children spraying out of pipes?

You DO mean "hear", don't you?

Yeah, SO much dumber than putting data on cassette tapes, VCR tapes, or CDs. I mean, those are supposed to be used for AV type stuff, right ;)
No, that would be SCO
I'd say Orwellian in that Big Brother (telephone) is always watching you.
