Who then, will register Disney.XXX, Apple.XXX, Microsoft.XXX?
Do those companies want to be associated with porn at all?, but do they want to risk letting someone else get their name?
I offer a very simple solution to that particular problem:
Notice how a lot (if not most) web sites on a domain have a specific prefix added to the front? WWW.example.com?
Why not replace the WWW. portion with XXX.?
A domain holder can choose to offer both a regular website, and an adult website, without a new TLD provider collecting millions, if not billion on registration fees. and filtering "XXX." would be just as easy as filtering ".XXX" from a URL
Heck, you could even reserve a new specific port for XXX HTTP, so it can be filtered even if an IP adress is manually entered. Unfortunetly, port 69 is already reserved for TFTP.
I've heard that Scientologist used to buy L Ron's books, and ship them back to the seller as new, just to try and make them 'best sellers', Book store employees would open 'new' packages of books from the 'printer', and find they already had the store own labels on them...
But that could have just been a malicious story. Point is, buying your own books to boost apperant popularity is nothing new.
Thompson gave Reno a letter at a campaign event requesting that she check a box to indicate whether she was homosexual, bisexual, or heterosexual. Thompson said that Reno then put her hand on his shoulder and responded, "I'm only interested in virile men. That's why I'm not attracted to you." He filed a police report accusing her of battery for touching him.
My respect for Janet Reno just increased exponentially. Not because she disliked Jack, but for her quick wit.
That's impossible, I worked for a year as a contractor testing WMP install and uninstall. It would never cause 'Orange' smoke to come from any part of your machine, only 'Coral', 'Salmon', 'Goldenrod', or in extreme cases 'Peach Puff' colored smoke.
The Judges sentence should stand, it appears he plead guilty, and is remorseful, etc.
However, the 'hacker' should be punished for the 2999 other people he attacked, even if just one hour in jail for each violation.
It's like a drug user going to the police to complain about a dealer ripping him off; or a domestic violence case where they both hit each other... take 'em both in.
At my last contract job at MS, I really tried to use MSN search...
Sometimes the site wouldn't even load, sometimes clicking on search results would fail (because the click-tracking would fail), sometimes the main MSN site would show an server error. Each of these things were rare, but given how many things have to happen to complete a search task, overall I would estimate a 10% failure rate, to get any results at all.
Meanwhile, Google ALWAYS works. I have never once seen Google fail to load, or produce proper results. If Google doesn't load, I know it's my local network that's the problem.
Maybe it's the Parallel nature of Google's configuration vs. the apperently Serial setup of MSN. If a machine at Google fails, it dosn't affect much else, while one failure at MSN breaks the chain.
I think that falls under, the "The behavior that is rewarded, is the behavior that occurs" rule.
Rate video cards under a specific benchmark? result: the video cards are made to perform better under that benchmark, to the detriment of regular performance. Give money to poor people with kids? result: poor people have more kids, even though it just makes them poorer.
This is Slashdot, where even the well known fact that Windows is Cheaper, Faster, and more Reliable than Linux or Macintosh is ignored; Just like the fact that large amounts of WMD's were in Iraq, and Global Warming isn't real.
Agree, for the last few years, there seem to have been daily 'Emergency Broadcast System' tests. I used to listen to them, since they were rare, but now I basically ignore them.
The Government crying wolf too often will eventually lead to public apathy and annoyance.
I've read that section, but I can't figure out what the fee 17 U.S.C. 115 is for in this case.
"the royalty shall be either two and three-fourths cents, or one-half of one cent per minute of playing time or fraction thereof, whichever amount is larger."
assuming 20 songs on a disc, 55 cents, or 75 minutes, 37.5 cents...
Interesting Timeline there; one of Vista's key features is CableCard support, which is awfully hard to support when the cable companies keep dragging their feet.
Have the playback system add a 'watermark' to outgoing audio.
Such as a 'chirp' above human hearing range several times a second, or a low frequency note, below human hearing range (Mythbusters already covered the 'brown' note.)
MP3 and other audio codecs remove a lot of frequencies from playback; the human ear dosn't notice the differance, but the waveform changes a lot. (for example, if a loud 2000 Hz tone is played at the same time as a quiet 1980 Hz tone you wouldn't notice the quieter tone, because your brain only handles so many signals at once.)
Combining the two principles, an audio playback system could detect the loudest frequency in a time interval, and pulse neighboring frequencys at a lower amplitude and high speed to transmit extra data, such as a DRM flag, or a 'disreguard voice input' flag.
Fairly obvious, and should be easy to implement with any understanding on modern audio codecs. with the advantage that one computer wouldn't trigger a second computers voice system, unless this filter was specifically disabled.
Sigh, Long ago when I tried using eBay, I tried searching within a catagory for payment terms... however, "paypal" matches "no paypal", "I don't take paypal", "paypal not accepted", etc. etc.
Even people who commit mass murder, rape children, or download music online get attorneys.
(OJ, the RIAA, Charles Manson, and SCO all have attorneys)
His job is to argue for the executive, even if he doesn't personally believe in the argument, so he gets points for doing his job, which is an important part of the legal process; but loses points for such a lame argument.
But I wonder if he's argued that some people don't have the right to representation themselves. I recall an expression; "The first lawyer in a town is a poor man, when the second one arrives, they both become rich".
By failing to uphold the justice process, he is attempting to destroy the work of his fellow lawyers, so that they cannot represent clients, earn fees, and make a living.
I wonder what Bar or other association you need to be a member of to be a U.S. Attorney, and what his fellow lawyers think of him at this point (the only lawyer I know personally is very much anti-bush anyway)
rather tired, I expect that when I re-read this tomarrow, I'll be all "What was I thinking?"

Linux and Mac OS may be safe from viruses.
But dodo birds and passenger pigeons are safe from bird flu.
contagious diseases depend upon population density.

Shouldn't they first focus on selling the PS3 containing existing cell chips, instead of them rotting on shelves, like 3DO's?
Could you perhaps register the business in your home country instead?
Your search results may be reflecting what you are searching for.
Or, you could just vote Yes for the next school funding tax on the ballot.
The reason schools have to look to 'creative' funding sources for their programs is because they don't have enough money.

So that noone knows which spoilers are the 'real' ones.

I don't use paypal nowdays anyway.
I won't be voting for Bush.
they'll be banning cites from 'For Dummies' books.
So much for my "Ancient Egyptian Algebra For Dummies" purchase.
