i think what you have to realise is that c is a constant in this equation. so it doesn't matter one bit if it is c^2.001 or whatever, because your numerical value of c is heavily dependant on the units of measurement you use. For example, if you use MPa as energy, pounds as your mass, and furlongs per fortnight as your units of measurement, then the numbers would be completely different. basically, einstein is saying that mass is another form of energy or more correctly "mass is a fuckload of energy"

I know it's been said earlier here, but networking of slot machines is nothing new. I've been sorking in a pun in australia for a few years, and everything has been networked the entire time, they just have us manually check things seemingly for no reason at all. To turn a machine into an entirely new machine, the technician takes about 5 seconds changing the program, and changes the face plates.

Then the customers come in and go "oh wow!, a new machine!"
and they ask their friends "have you checked out the new machine mate?"
and their friend goes "no, i haven't. let's go and see whether it pays out"
my conclusion in that regard is that people are retarded

On the changing of the odds "on the fly", that will just piss people off. there is also no need for it, as the laws of probability average out your profit, we never lose even if someone wins $4000 or so at one time

why is a 12 base system better? our number system is base 10 or perhaps base 2 if you're a slashdotter. the very fact that you're using the number 12 to denote twelve is testament to the fact that you use a base ten number system yourself. it's like the joke: there are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who don't. please enlighten us why twelve is a better number than ten. dividing base 10 numbers by 2 or 4 is usually easy, and changing for the sake of dividing by 3 or 6 seems a bit of an overreaction. in the meantime, feel free to implement such a system. wouldn't bother me, i'd just write a script or something
