Yeah, this is the best result she might have hoped for. I guess it worth it for her.
And in a month the magic will vanish and she resumes position at Sys-Con.
Haha, it might be that "open source law" whatever is it is untested. But copyright law is old and stable.
MS will never touch Linux, their programmers wouldn't even comprehend the code.
There are a lot of rich people whom i don't hate, or even like. Billy isn't among them.
And it isn't because he is rich, it is because Windows is so crappy, yet I'm forced to buy it.
And even if I buy it, I have little control over my own machine.
I agree that there are good M$ products (I really like msvc), some of those were stolen or robbed from other companies. Like doublespace, foxpro, etc. Either they kill the competition or just steal shamelessly.
Linux is a different opponent, it has no single distributor so it is much harder to kill.
And time is working for Linux, not Windows.
You just have to find a linux company which does your job:)
I'm a programmer in a bank too, we recently got biztalk (from m$). Frankly, it sux.
Now it seems we could have been better off writing the whole system from scratch rather than using that crap.
Users are responsible for their computer. Nowadays it is quite simple to remove dangerous software and replace it with something safer.
Before connecting a machine to the internet, remove Windows.
Being a tester i did this to a J2EE application in my company:)
What does this prove?
The application was written badly, the technology isn't necessarily wrong.
We are lucky virus writers don't tag such EULA's to their stuff (yet).

What if SCO 0wned themselves?
Is that so impossible they 'defaced' their own site and then point to the linux crowd?
This shouldn't haven't been authorized by the head guys, just a SCO worker with proper access could do it.

"and despite some nonexistent devices to further gameplay (like hacking a computer from across a room)" I didn't know wardriving belongs to sci-fi.

Maybe you are so rich that you can afford a separate room for your computer, or you don't sleep at all. But not everyone are so lucky.
If i remember right, they would make helium. Also blow you off the face of Earth in the process. Without much radioactive pollution.
