A long time ago i bought an HP41C (not "V"!) and it was (still is...) a very good, small & rugged machine. No nonsense. Back then HP were making the very best calculators in the world.
Nowadays, a certain Miss has decided to decimate the "Calculators" division of HP and it shows. THe present calculators at HP have the same look and (cheesy) feel as the TI calculators. They are bulky and large, they sport cheesy buttons and it is actually hard to find a model that supports the sooo efficient & fast RPN notation. In short: they suck. I feel like we will never ever again see really well built & designed calculators now. Too bad.
Interestingly enough, the only calculator left in their product line that still has the feeling & quality of true HP calculators is the "Financial" HP12C... It seems Economists have it all... !
Maybe we should petition for Agilent to start designing calculators? One can always dream...
I am currently using a G550 with two monitors. Neither in windows 2000 or Xfree86 can i adjust independent gamma on the monitors. Actually, it is even worse than that because i can adjust the gamma on only one monitor. The other monitor must be used without gamma correction.
IMHO, independent gamma correction on both monitors is necessary and i am surprised to see that the reviewer did not even hint about it.

huh? Quebec city is my native city. I was there during the tear gas fest and, believe me, police never ran out of teargas. Truckloads of the stuff was swiftly sent from the USA as quickly as needed to replenish supplies.
What people might not know about, is the fact that many people have been shot at with anti-riot guns. Some of them in the face (one guy had a serious throat injury). Also, the tear-gas grenades were, many times, used as projectiles, and shot directly at people (with the grenade launchers). This is a big no-no and should never have happened. But it did.
Also, don't forget that the tear gas attacks were performed into a very residential area. The result: one woman, alone with her child in her appartment, got a rubber bullet break one of her windows, and tear gas freely flowing into her appartment.

If they had concentrated on providing a decent port of Corel Draw (not through Wine, but a real port), people would have bought it. Instead they diverted their resources in a whole bunch of things that are already available with Linux (a distribution, an office suite, etc...).
Just specify a very visible RETURN ADDRESS with exactly the same address as the Marketroid's one... The postal workers would HAVE to send it there, no?
Maybe this could be engineered into a defensive weapon? Just store a super-intense pulse of laser light (expensive to produce) into this container (cheap gas cell?), and let it out at the right moment.
When i buy a printed book, it is because i need a printed version of whatever. If the core content of your book is half-spreaded between printed pages and a CD-ROM, then the book is clearly defective and should be returned to where it comes from.

Or, worst case, simply sell a complete player. I expect no profit would be made on this licensing fee so most people would probably agree to pay 1$ to get their player.
VA has so far been involved with classic motherboard-based platforms (even the rack-mountables) oriented towards business applications.
What is your position on telco-grade platforms based on hot-swappable compact PCI boards and chassis, NEBS, high-availability, N+1 redundant AC-DC (-48 Volts) power supplies etc...?

The real benefit is not that it gives you a great interface right now. Linux is an "enabling technology" that allows _you_ to design and implement a "Great Interface" (tm) and have it distributed & used all over the world.
A little math here... As we all know, lambda times frequency equals 'c' (speed of light in medium) : c = lambda x f If they use wavelengths around 1.5 (or 1.3) micrometers, then the frequency is about 2x10^14 Hz (2 teraHertz).
We transport 6.4 terabits/s on a 2 teraHertz link... That is the magic of WDM... but the power of each individual wavelength carried must be low, to avoid non-linear effects (xtalk).

It pumps out real-time mpeg2 video & audio over high-speed network links.
The reason i mention it here is because i'm quite proud if the box. Really. We put our enthusiasm in it when it was designed, and it shows.
