I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, and I don't know if it's exactly analagous, but what about Apple's hardware sales? My understanding is that Apple resellers cannot sell below the price Apple sets without Apple rejecting their license to be a reseller. Is this not at least faintly similar behavior?
I don't have mod points so I'll comment instead. Couldn't agree more about the mini. I've been thinking of doing something similar and no mini-itx solution I've found comes close to a Mac Mini. They would also take up a good deal more space from the things I've seen.
I dunno. Make it half off and I might bite. Most of my textbooks I have little or no intention of ever using again. I don't sell them back to the bookstore out of pure obstinacy.
I didn't RTFA, but to answer the poster's question about DSL competing, it already does on price. I can get DSL for as little as $15 a month. That's standard stuff up to 1.5 Mb. Good enough for most anything I do. The cheapest real price I recall seeing for cable (after the 3 month intorductory price) is about $45 a month, plus basic cable. I'm sure it's faster, but it's way more expensive.
Aren't they already about halfway there? I've not used either product, but I understand that Pages and Keynote 2 are both very fine programs. Get a spreadsheet program and something similar to Access (Filemaker?) and they'd have all they need.
Would it be possible for this to allow a machine to act as a file server? If it makes iTunes libraries availiable, could it also make a networked drive or folder availiable?
They aren't workhorses, but the Dell 1000 and 1200 laptops that I've seen fit the bill. The nice old plain black style, no legacy ports, no extra buttons above the keyboard. Just a nice non-descript laptop.
It's hard to find an LCD with 1400x1500 resolution for $400. What makes you think that you could get a whole system for that price? There's probably a reason that the Mira devices cost about a thousand dollars.
As long as the standards are open and I can potentially open my files with another piece of software that is on my local machine and can also keep a copy locally, why not? Bring it on. It's just another option that I'll have.
Seriously. It looks like iPhoto for the PC. Useful editing tools that will do anything my wife or I will need with an attractive interface. Oh, yeah; it's free too. Wow.
Anyone else notice that the new iMac G5's have dropped the modem? There's a usb modem option for $49. Blazing ahead.

Thank you so much. I have 6-9 and have been looking for torrents of the first 5.
Moonbase Commander is a good multiplayer game for up to 4 players. Turn based strategy. They used to have a demo available.
I was really quite impressed. A decent amount of humor, something resembling a plot, I look forward rather anxiously for more of these.
So where's my reasonably priced, non-DRM'd, long lasting battery, etc., digital book?
Ha! Vindicated: http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/06/16/ 1810237&tid=185&tid=3/.

I for one welcome our new broadband distribution overlords.
