Interesting.. I was in the local RS about two years ago. I was looking to mess around with SparcStation 2 that I was bored with, and decided to replace the CPU clock oscillator in order to overclock it. I went in to RS and asked if they had some 100MHz oscillators. The guy asked what I was doing, and I mentioned it was a Sun box. We got into a discussion about it, he knew which CPU the SS2 had, and he even recommended against doing the operation because of the layer width of the motherboard. This guy knew his stuff; turned out he was a Sun hardware service guy in the late '80s-early '90s.
Every once in a while you'll run into one of the "old crew" in a RS store, but probably less and less these days. I remember fondly in the early '90s when I was a young kid, and RS was my favorite place to go, when they really did have all the coolest gadgets and kits, and the staff was knowledgable and freindly.
I'm sad to see it go this way.

Yes I have heard of them. That doesn't have anything to do with what he asked, though.

I think you just won the award for the craziest question ever asked on Slashdot. Motif widgets are NOT interchangeable with Qt/Gtk. Those two aren't even interchangeable. Not to mention the fact that Motif is old, crusty, and un-free anyway.
I think we moved past Motif around 1995. I know there are some commercial products that still want to use it, but those guys are few and far between.
Have you ever played a game based around subject matter that was not appropriate or possible to recreate in real life without reprecussion? You know, as in most video games on the market now? I guess not. You must play only sports games.
When China finally launches nukes at us and commences ground offensive operations, I'll already be fully familiar with military hand signals, squad and individual tactics, and weapon systems. I'll be able to link up with militia and fight for the 'ol Red White & Blue, whithout ever having been in the military in my entire life. I'll be living the survivalist's dream!
That's fine by me. We shouldn't be doing business with China AT ALL. They are our largest enemy. They would like nothing less than our absolute destruction. They've caused the destruction of America's manufacturing sector. As more business moves to China, we are giving them the ability to cripple our nation in one fell swoop, simply by stopping shipments of goods we depend upon them for.
But they make cheap stuff, so who cares, right!?
Look, I'm no xenophobe, but am I the only one out there that thinks that, even though they are our largest trading ally now, China has some other plans for us further down the road? I don't see any reason to trust them, but day by day we are more reliant on China to survive.
i playd vidoe games all way thru hi scooll, and i faled a lota clases, and my parents kiked me out of home, but now even in my old age of 32 i feel yung @ haeart. so... i think they r ryte.. i thank vid. games for ervrything i have.. my gf i met on hallo xbox online, my dog (but ive been layuing lots of vid. games lately and i dont know hwhere he is), and my fun job @ teh bowling allie.
The format IS open. Apply a uxtheme.dll patch, available all over the web. Then go to any site that offers Windows Visual Styles. Deviantart is my preferred source. Presto! Download a Visual Style, double-click on it, and the Display control panel applet opens up to show you your new theme.
Now why did Microsoft prevent third-party themes out of the box? I don't know, I don't care. All that matters is that it takes less than five minutes to enable third-party themes, and you don't need any seperate application to do it once you've patched uxtheme.dll.
Sure, I suppose Linux could move to the GPL3. I'm not really sure of the consequences, though. I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal, but I may be wrong. I don't really care either way.
Wtf? OO may be almost useless on the hardware you describe, but MS Office flies on it. My father's computer is a meager Celeron 633/w 512MB mem. Office is insanely fast on it. OpenOffice? Haven't tried it, but by the way OO performs on my Athlon XP 2800, I'd say it would be pretty bad.
yeah. like, that's totally stupid and whatever. for sure.
When I was in Japan last week, I didn't see this. Therefore, what you have said is not true.
Same difference?
If you're a muslim woman, you shouldn't have any problems.

Not to mention Services for Unix, and by extension SUA in 2K3 Server/Vista, are almost completely based on OpenBSD code.
Well, now it's down to you and that other guy. Does it make you feel that much better? :)
If you're asking the City of Redmond to fix these things, you're not going to get very far. They can't fix a pothole.
Yeah, a sucky one.

I noticed a mistake in your post: You didn't mention OpenBSD.
WMF a genuine backdoor? I love the conspiracy theories surrounding this. Put up or shut up.

Linux was redesigned from the ground up to scale well to huge multiprocessor systems.
LOL! If you say so.

The GeForce 6600 is not available in classic PCI. You have PCI Express.

Office XP, AKA Office 2002, though I doubt Office 2003 would be any worse.

Yes, I have! I think I'm already well on my way! :)
