    What could we have done with 40 tWh of energy?!
    It takes 15,000 kWh produce one ton of aluminum. That was 2.6 Gigatons of aluminum we could have had. We got stupid hash codes instead. This is 460,000 times the yearly world production of aluminum.

    We wasted the energy of 460,000 times (not tons fricken times) the yearly world production of aluminum last year on Bitcoin and Ethereum!

    It's a decomposition product of the roasting bean. They don't pour it in there like some kind of solvent. It's formed when cooking above 120C. Potato chips could probably avoid generating it by cooking at 119C and burn less chips in the process. I think potatoes are fried to remove the water and they lowered the temperature by vacuum frying. Coffee needs to decompose in order to be roasted where potato chips are considered burnt when this happens.

    I find that these devices are crippled to sell functionality back to the user. That's Apple's business model. Thousands of man hours are poured into these products to prevent functionality and it damages the world.
