Nice conspiracy theory. I highly doubt the govt makes certain drugs illegal for the sole purpose of planting them on people, especially when there are better things to plant (like kiddie porn).
More likely drugs other than tobacco and alcohol were banned because they come primarily from outside the US. I don't quite know the economic incentive for doing this but I'm sure there's a good one related possibly to mercantilism. Also you need to remember how much lobbying the tobacco industry does and how much of a hit their profits would take if pot was legalized.
Think of all the people that cry after seeing movies or at a sad book ending. Why shouldn't a well developed and involved video game cause people to tear up either?
With my creative zen and in-ear earplugs (probably comparable to whatever comes with ipod) I listen to music on "1". If it's very noisy, say on a bus then I crank it up to "4". If I'm listening to it at night when I'm lying in bed by myself it's at "0" (yes at 0 it still produces sound just much less than 1). Scale goes up to "99" and it's deafening around 20.
My hearing compared to my friends is much better but they tend to have their music playing so loud that I can make out the words when they're across the room using in-ear headphones.
I'm guessing it's based on how long it takes earth to orbit the sun. Of course it assumes earth travels the same speed throughout all points of the orbit.
Sent to both of you. One thing I forgot to mention in the email is that you should find a player corporation to join (corp=guild/clan). It helps tremendously and makes the game a lot more fun. There's plenty of corps that will recruit newbs and give them $$$ and items. Offical Corp recruiting forum
Eve online is a space game with everything they mention as goals.
"Entitled The Colonies, the game was intended to provide a massive world space where repercussions from player actions could be felt and maintained."
Eve is a massive world in space and it's entirely pvp based with pvp occupations other than fighting. Has a playerun economy with prices that fluctaute based on player supply and demand (also greed:p).
Stated goals from site:"1 Create a world in which the players had genuine effect on the worldspace.
2 Create a world large enough that it would never feel small.
3 Enable game world interaction beyond the 3-d game client.
4 Encourage a sense of ownership in the player.
5 Develop a crafting system that would allow seeming limitless invention and creation of items.
6 Develop a real money transaction system that would allow players to make money but never cause players to feel that they had to spend money to play.
7 Create a story arc that would lead naturally to expansion."
Can players effect the world? Yes player run economy. Is it large? It's fucking huge. It could take me literally a real life day to go from one end to the other in a slow ship. But it's not so big that you're spending all your time traveling since most of the action takes place in the centerish. Interaction beyond the game client? I'm not sure what that means, if you aren't playing the game you aren't interacting with it and that takes a client.
Encourage a sense of ownership? Yup. This is MY ship, MY blueprint, MY resources, MY station, MY space, MY market etc. The crafting system is the only thing it doesn't quite meet. It works and is functional but to there is no true invention. You can modify blueprints so they are more resource effiecient etc. but you can't create your own item. #6 balance between earning $$$ and the need to have $$$ to play? It's there. Because skills train in real time you should never need more money then you can spend (no point buying a battleship if you can't use it for another month). #7 does it have a good story that we can mess with? Yes Right now we just finished a story arc involving a stolen dreadnought.
I'm betting it was never published because they realized it already exists and unlike traditional fantasy mmorpgs a game like this is a niche game so it wouldn't have trouble competing.
If you're interested in trying eve-online after hearing this shameless plug for it send me a PM with a email address or post it in a reply to me and I can give you a free 14 day trial key (no CC needed).
"For example, gold. We all know what normal gold is like. Golden, lustrous, very unreactive. Nanospheres of gold, though? They can be ruby-red in color, and quite reactive."
Could you give me a link to where some made "nano gold" that was red and reactive because I don't think it's possible. I mean gold is a certain number of protons, neutrons and electrons surrounded by electrons. It's chemical properties come from it's electron configuration+neutrons+protons. You change that you're changing the element.
Carbon forms long chains easily so I can understand making nanotubes out of them but could you please explain how you can make gold very reactive with it still being gold?
How will it handle words that have 2 or more very different meanings. Best Example I can think of: spanish word fui= I was or I went. Fui al cine= I went to the movies. So from the context it should learn the Fui al cine= I went to the movies NOT I was the movies.
But what happens when it's translating say some fantasy novel where a boy is turned into a house and it's supposed to say he was a house, how will it translate that into spanish?
You're not grasping the difference between good and better.
EX: Lets say I have a car that randomly breaks down every 500 miles while my competitor's car breaks down every 450miles. My car is better than theirs but it's still pretty crappy.
The movie's huge glaring flaw was that Jar Jar didn't die. Kill him off in a 10-20min seen and it would be perfect.
Kind of. Cashette.com already has an email program similar to this. The way it works is if you want to send email to someone @cashette.com you need to have a cashette.com email address. From their if you aren't on their friends list or something you need to pay them X amount of money (as specified by the reciever) for them to get it. If we could get some sort of globalized version of this spam disappears.
I bet it will be some sort of a smarter/better brain. It's our best and most used trait. Most likely true multitasking (100% efficiency while doing 2 things).
"It was truly a defining moment for the science fiction culture"
Technically it's not science fiction because it could never happen. For it to be science fiction it needs to be a futuristic world that our world has the possibility of becoming. We may end up with deathstars, tiefighters, lightsabers etc. but the force (magic) will never exist so it's fantasy not sci-fi.
They aren't what most people would call expansions. You don't buy a new box and install some more content. These "expansions" are really massive patches that come out every ~2months. They introduce new zones, in this case pvp (arena) and occasionally new powers/powersets.

It's not the phonotic sound of the word itself that's offensive it's the meaning behind the word.

" Just because crack and herion are big money makers, does that mean we should all sell it"
Short Anwser: Yes.
Longer Anwser: Victimless crime + weeds stupidity out of the gene pool faster.

That's true and I do have freedome from speech. You have the right to say whatever you want and I have the right to tune it out.
Yeah but consoles have autoaim so it basically evens out.

Funniness (F), Offensiveness (O), Chance of Success (C): F/0=C but if offensive to all then F*O=C.
I'm guessing a lack of freetime and a complete lack of a life other than school, homework, eat, sleep.

Does Opera get something similar to greasemonkey? If not firefox>opera, greasemonkey is a very powerful extension.

More like that fact that my friends' and my cousin's and my boy-friends' and my uncles' PS2 broke.
Sure if you overlook that it only played DRM music, had a poor battery life and most of its games were ports.

Back up important files (finacial data etc.) format and reinstall the OS.

2. It makes it very easy to determine who's an illegal immigrant and remove them.
