    I don't really get the point of that post, but merely distributing the "uncompiled/fresh from nVidia" nVidia driver on the same cd as the linux kernel isn't illegal, tons of distros do it, so what if it was, and there was a script, that also happens to be on this cd, that untars it and compiles it then loads it into the kernel? And what if this script happens to be referenced by init?

    The x800 is old and discontinued? The driver may still be beta, but I think it would qualify as fine, if not great.

    P.S. The 9250 (most likely one of the "old cards" you mentioned) isn't discontiued either.

    Is's compiling it thats a violation, and distributing that compiled result. However, your point still stands, what if they made a boot script to compile it? The source code portions of the ati driver at least compile extremely fast (under 5 seconds).

    Funny, I'm so used to atheists complaining about religious people pushing their beliefs on them, I find it interesting that an atheist would want to push his belief on religious people.

    Neither Nintendo or Microsoft would let it happen. Remember that Microsoft makes money off games, and people playing emulated nes games doesn't get them anything. Nintendo makes money off games as well, and the games ran by the emulator would probably be pirated, because the chances of Nintendo signing a deal with someone to make their products run on a major competitors systems is unlikeley, and as already stated, it would enroach on their market share.

    Think of how many console generations there have been, not all that many. Just like fledgling democracys will never have the same party voted in twice, once the market has stabalized, who knows what will happen.

    You can burn backwards compatability data/firmware upgrades to a disc on a internet connected computer and put them on to the 360 if you dont have internet on it.

    Which is exactly why there never will be a officialy suppored version of windows runing on macs, and why apple will never support running windows on macs. As long as it remains a hack, the big software companies can't says "Just reboot into windows" because windows wont be a officialy supported option.
