Funny..I read mjr's letter from 1998 just a few days ago (I visit blackened.com every so often, and sometimes I reread the letter--it serves as a sad reminder of the lamers that are everywhere on IRC these days):
This reminds me of the LaserDisc barcode readers. Remember how you could hook them up to your LD player, scan a barcode, and it would jump to a specific place on the disc?
People, if you don't like anime, CHECK THE EXCLUDE BOX FOR ANIME ON YOUR PREFERENCES. Then you won't even have the opportunity to start screaming about anime being a "genre" (it's a MEDIUM) in which people get raped by tentacles (and it isn't -- all you've being watching is hentai if you think this is so).
I don't apologize for this sounding like a rant, because it is. I'm rather annoyed, and I think that all of the other otaku out there who read Slashdot are also, because they too have to go wading through a bunch of crappy posts by uninformed people just to read anything of value.
Please, for the love of God, if you don't like anime, check "the box."
Now watch me get moderated down for this post by some moderator just because they don't like anime. >_
If anything, Corel increased Debian's popularity by allowing people unfamiliar with Linux to get started with it. Doesn't sound like "screwing Debian" to me.
Personally, I use Slackware. There is nothing better than.tgz packages (and I'm not being sarcastic -- I hate it when package management software bitches at you "PACKAGE X IS NOT INSTALLED" when in fact it is installed; you just compiled it by yourself instead of installing a retarded package).
And I fully agree with you on the subject of Urotsukidoji and all other hentai. It's sad to know that talent is being wasted on mind-numbing crap in which people get fucked by tentacles rather being used to make another Fushigi Yuugi/Neon Genesis Evangelion/Mononoke Hime/.
Dragonball Z is pure crap. There are three anime that consist of what bludstone (who also usually posts on anime-related topics) calls the "armpit of anime":
---
Dragonball Z
Sailor Moon
Pokemon
---
These are ALWAYS the three shows that are mentioned when someone asks an otaku what the three worst anime that they can think of are.
Some stuff you should watch instead (and I'm not going to put descriptions because I've had to do this too much on Slashdot and I'm tired right now):
---
Ah! My Goddess
Akira
Appleseed
Cowboy Bebop
Dirty Pair
El-Hazard
The Vision of Escaflowne
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Fushigi Yuugi
Galaxy Express 999
Ghost in the Shell
Grave of the Fireflies
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Key the Metal Idol
Macross
Magic Knight Rayearth
Maison Ikkoku
Maze
Martian Successor Nadesico
Nadia
Patlabor
Perfect Blue
Project A-Ko
Ranma 1/2
Record of Lodoss War
Rurouni Kenshin
Saber Marionette J/R/etc.
Sakura Wars
serial experiments, lain
The Slayers
Tenchi Muyo
Trigun
Urusei Yatsura
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Video Girl Ai
The Wings of Honneamise
You're Under Arrest
---
Go watch some of that stuff and come back and tell me it sucks.
This is actually an excellent idea. I've often left town and forgotten to set my VCR up to record, and this is a fix for that problem. Besides, someone would need to be REALLY bored to "h4x0r" your ReplayTV unit.
...as Sega has historically been the only video game company to support emulation (as in, they really never went after any ROM sites). Evidently they don't support it anymore. >:/
Further proof that Sega support(s/ed) emulation was that the Sega Smash Pack used KGen - they licensed it from Steve Snake.
That's my favorite F&SL (Fly and Shoot Lasers; acronym (c) Dr_DOS/VicViper) series. Too bad Darius Gaiden and other games using the F3 System chipset aren't supported by Raine (which was, as you may recall, discontinued due to lameness - it was a Taito/Jaleco 680x0 board emulator).
And besides the arcade Darius games (Darius, Darius 2, and Darius Gaiden), let's not forget Darius Plus (for the PC Engine) and Darius Twin (for the SNES). Darius Twin has awesome music, by the way.
*sigh* The days of the NES and the SNES were definitely the best days of video gaming.
Eudora forever!

...did a talk at an auditorium at Moffett Field, California, for the Computer Museum just yesterday, and I went to go hear it. Very interesting stuff.
The Computer Museum's home page is at www.computerhistory.org.
It's too bad that telemarketers aren't required by law to use these phones when calling to spam us.

Seriously, though, do you think that the judge had a bias due to his previous employment (see article below)?
Judge Conflicted Interest in MPAA/2600 DeCSS Case?
2600 was mirroring DeCSS and they were told to take it down. They did, and promptly put up more links to DeCSS. That's what the case is about.
And all I need to do is refer to a past Slashdot article to prove my point.
"Judge Conflicted Interesting in MPAA/2600 DeCSS Case?"
I'm just testing something with Slashdot, ignore this message.
Hmm, I guess Fry's Electronics is just ripping off their customers (as usual) then, again. Anyone who's been to Fry's knows what I'm talking about. :]
RDRAM is FAR too expensive to be the next standard. 256MB of the stuff is something like $800 or $900.
Yea, I usually do >_<, but I forgot this time. My bad.
:D
Thanks for telling me anyway.

haha, I'd mod this up if I had some moderator points (and if I hadn't already posted). :P

The game you are talking about was called Street Rod. My brother used to play that all the time. :)
Sierra used to make a lot of adventure games, as I recall.
