So let us think about this 172 square feet is about 13 feet on a side, so lets say it is a 14 foot by 14 foot square floor, and let us assume that the floor is the diameter of a circle so the distance over the top would be 14*PI/2 or 14*3.14/2= 21.98 so round to 22 feet, so that is a piece of canvas that is 22 feet by 14 feet which is 308 square feet or 44352 square inches. Now since I made the fabric larger I will error on the side of caution and quadruple the weight of this building to 2000 pounds so if you have a inflatable bag that when inflated will touch every inches of this piece of canvas you would need.045 PSI beyond the pressure need to inflate the bladder to lift the canvas off the ground so a foot pump in this case not only sounds reasonable but also easy, all you would need is a high volume pump and maybe a couple hours of work, so get started inflating early and drape the wet cloth over the almost inflated bladder, sounds easy enough that even I could do it with ease.
Even if I am off by 2 orders of magnitude, it would still only take 4 PSI to inflate this structure. Simple eh? Just my thoughts, I am by no means a math whiz I wouldn't even go so far as to say I was good at math or engineering, but it seems simple enough to me.
My DM made us draw a map, but first he made sure someone bought paper and had a feather quill and ink, then we looked for someone with mapping skill.:-)
Think about it like this, satalite radio works on RF from sats that transmit somewhere in the GHz range, and Radio in that frequency can be attenuated easily by things like concrete walls, trees, the walls of a canyon or say being placed in a car so that the antenna does not have a view of the southern sky(Northern sky for those in the southern Hemisphere). or, putting it in you pocket could also kill the signal, so basically, unless you are always in a car with an antenna that can be put on the roof and is usually moving so any obstructions to the signal will not be there for long, or unless you are at home you will probably run into some reception problems.
given these problems and the whole subscription payments I would feel a little ripped off if I had an iPod with those restrictions and a monthly service fee just so I could listen to sat music under the right conditions, I would rather be able to play the music on the iPod and know that what is on there is going to play, even if I am in a iron box
Plus by not integrating it that allows the 3rd parties a chance to make an ad-on that would allow those people who want it to get it and those who don't will not see a price increase.
Of course that is just my opinion and probably represents little of reality, I just like to think things work like that, who knows what really happened? maybe Steve just didn't like the guy, oh well, just my 2 cents.
you know after getting laid off from HP that is probably the nicest thing I could say, $200 million to not lay off but fire thousands of employees, thank all that is good an holy she is gone, maybe HP can become a good company again, one that people want to work for. and one that I might think about buying things from.
thats funny. My Doctor told me I could go blind in 3 years or 30 years, that sounds like a far cry from reduced night vision and reduced peripheral vision, anyway he did mention that RP in my case is calcium deposits surrounding the rods and cones in my eyes, so basically the receptors are not damaged, just obscured, a chip with some pins on it should be able to reach the back of the eye and provide substitute electrical signals for my brain.
This would be rad, I would love to be able to do things in low light situations, like not running over waitresses in almost every restaurant in the country or go to clubs or even, dare I say it, Drive at night, oh the rapture.
Stupid? How do you figure? Why the fuck should I have to secure my computer? You mean it isn't safe out of the box? My house had locks to keep the bad people out, why doesn't my computer? If virus scanning is so important, why isn't it part of the computer? My car came with a manual that tells me how to maintain it and the dealer showed me the manual when I bought the car, the guy at the store who sold me the computer told me I could just plug it in, are you calling him a liar?
I know the answers to all of these questions, but I have also been paid to know the answers to the computer questions, the real problem is that a majority of the people who buy computers don't know that these issues even exist, and those who do or have been told about them, try to ignore the advice because they don't like bad news, so, until people start getting educated at the store or until computer manufactures start making things secure, then people will continue to spread viruses without even knowing they have them, and continue to complain about the problem while not taking any action to fix the, people like to complain, but when given a choice of an action to fix them they will usually not act.
they already do, I saw a video where the pilots said the autoland is great in fog, zero visibility but the plane fined the runway, the real problem is taxing to the gate when you can't see out the window.
Forget emergencies, try routine basis to keep certified, if you travel a lot, you probably have already been on an aircraft that has done an autolanding.
This reminds me of another thing that should be checked, I remember from my RAID card days that if you dealt with small files like text documents all the time, and had cache on the controller you could see significant speed increases and at the same time, using cache for something like CAD drawings was just sill because each file would fill the cache and make everything feel slower, so maybe an extended test of large and small file would be inorder also, because what works for a documentation company will probably not be as good for a CAD company.
That is absolutly correct. I actually watched the press confrence yesterday, I saw the last half or so, here is what I got from it.
The average PS2 owner was like 27 or so and the average Xbox owner was a year younger. The board is not tying to censor the games but make parents simply AWARE that these things exist, they also mentioned that ESRB had only ever rated 18 games as AO (Adults Only, 18+), but showed clips of "The Guy Game" and "Leisure Suit Larry", these games are rated M(Mature 17+) yet last I checked I needed to be 18 to buy magazines with topless women in them. they stated that the ESRB might consider removing the AO rating since there is only a 1 year differnce in the age "restrictions" also mentioned as possible reasons for adult games being labeled as M was that some retailers will not stock AO games. They suggested changing the ratings to reflect the movie rating system, since most people understand the difference between PG-13 and R.
I get the feeling that the news likes to Hype things way too much, there was maybe one fist slamed on the podium, or it might have been a hand that slipped of the edge, and simply fell, they are not super angry or upset at these games, with the possible exception of JFK reloaded, and I kinda understand that one, otherwise the whole thing was a real even keel here are the states, just thought you might want to know what your children are doing.
Just my thoughts, it seems like everone gets the impression that they are out to make games out to be "Evil" but from what I saw, they where getting more to the point of, You don't let your children watch porn, do you really want to have them blowing the brains out of some random character in video games after getting out of school? If yes, then here are some easy ways to get them that game, if not, check the rating.
Are you kidding? Have you ever used a Hardware array controller? do you even know the difference between a 0+1 and a RAID 5?
First of all any controller made in the last decade has a fast enough proccessor on it that it is going to be faster than software RAID, second, a 0+1 is WAY slower than a RAID 5. For example lets say I got 4 disks if I setup a 0+1 that would be 2 mirror sets and the data is even split across the 2 arrays so I ask for a file and I have just 2 drive seeking the info, and retreiving that info, with a 4 disk RAID 5 I have at least 3 head seeking and I have just increased the data rate coming of of the drives by 50% just because I have one more drive fetching the info.
hardware RAID in a RAID 5 is only slower than a RAID 0 and they are both Lightning fast compared to mirrors and 0+1 sets , I do not know where you get the impression that tying up 4 drives and making them act like 2 drives is faster than using 4 drives as if they where 3 but I would actually be interested to see hard facts as all I am providing is logic and observed performance. but from the work I have done RAID 5 is the way to go and if you have good backups and can handle downtime RAID 0 is even better.
things to consider 1) hardrave sustained transfer speed, IBM made some bad ass 10k ultra 160 drives but they could only push 40 MB/s so a 4 disk RAID 5 would saturate the channel on the controller. also 2)consider the card slot 32 bit slot on a 66 MHz bus is 1053 Mb/s or 132MB/s in theory, so you need a faster bus like new chips or a 64 bit bus, most the last server hardware I worked on only wnet to 66 MHz bus speed with 64 bit busses, so your mileage will vary, so basicly get an Ultra 320 controller (Which will be a 64 bit card) and then you will have to worry about getting the data off the server to users, so gigabit ethernet otherwise alll the work you put into getting the hardrives to work fast is a waste, also personal prefference, I like raid cards from LSI logic, and hate what adaptec made. just make sure that the computer can handle the bandwidth all the way around. For 12 drives you would want 1-2 hot spares, an ultra 320 card, 10k rpm drives, and 2 gigabit NICs, and a router that would handle that kind of traffic. just my thoughts on doing it, there is a lot to consider, good luck
Since you mention the Airbus A320 maybe you should also look at what Airbus did in the past, they tried to allow a computer to make the final decision and override the pilot, and if you remember they lost a very expensive airplane and this also cost Airbus their best test pilot at the paris airshow when the plane flew into the trees and exploded in a nice very spectacular matter. just something to think about.
Sure tell him to be grateful for his still having a job when the CEO of your company makes a bunus 200 million dollars because of the stock value of a merger with another company, tell your friend to be glad tht they still have a job when the CEO of the other company you merged with gets 200 million dollars as a severance package when he goes to be a CEO of another company (as in he had the job and he quit, so they gave him a severance package) tell your fried to be happy that he got a 20 dollar a month raise after 2 years of work and losing almost all of the fringe benifits, tell your friend to be happy for the guy who just put him out of a job be cause he will work for half the wages and tell him to be happy for the CEO of the company who just fired him, because that CEO just got another bonus for saving some much money for the company.
So again , yea be grateful that the company you work for made it look like they made more profit by not giving your friend a raise.
Cowboys aren't bs, I have seen them, they still do rope cattle and ride horses, and all that happy shit, its a place called Montana, I don't like it , but I am sure the cowboys do.
That the people on a site about technology can host some many technophobes. I would have suspect more of a response along the lines of, "Wow, cool I wonder what kind of radar they can incorparate into a car? Possible millimeter wave like the skateboard YT uses in Snow crash or maybe something like what hte subhunters use to distinguish a periscope from surface chop when looking for submarines.(ah yes its called synthetic appeture radar, now I remember)" but no we get LAME replies like, "oh Lord NOOOO!! NEW TECH!! WE MUSN"T THER"RE ALL GOING TO LAUGH AT YOU !!!" Damn people , learn to be a little more positive.
indeed, as another note, one thing that I heard today that made me laugh was a customer called me and said something like "this is a mission critical server and it cannot be down long because we lose money...blahblah blah" so I looked up his entitlement on the machine (I work for a large hardware company) and geuss what, he had a response that said he only got service monday though friday from 8am to 5 pm,
The point of that little story is that people who are really concerned about down time buy contracts that say we(the hardware company) have whatever problem fixed in 6 hours no matter what day it is or what time it is someone will be on the way. cheapskates use standard warranties.
Now I am reffering to hardware but it is something to think about, can Red Hat offer something that would make you business better, like say a guarentee that they will fix bugs that crash important apps within a set amount of time? Just some food for thought.
I meant that the record companies aren't just going to give away music for free, sorry for not being clear.
All of your other points are valid and I agree with most of what you say.
If 99 cents is too much for you pansies then what is a good price? 50 cents? 25? Oh right I get it, your a cheap ass and just want it free, well it ain't going to happen, so get used to the idea of paying for stuff, Open source seems to have seriously warped peoples sense of entitlement amd I don't see it getting any better any time soon

That is;, 000 watts or
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
1.0 * 10^39 watts
A number that few people could actually comprehend
Meh, I don't think it is all that.

Thanks for the info tm2b, it is good that I do not own a business, I would have never considered this as a taxable item.
Barter is illegal? got any references? Seriously, I really am not trying to be an ass.

Fsck, you're right, damn I wanted to be right. guess I should pay more attention next time.
Always, boiling is the chemical compound H2O reacting to energy and changing states from a liquid to a gas. as in, a chemical reacting to an stimulus.
http://www.weather.gov/ isn't good enough? they list all a crap-ton of weather stations, all you need to know is what city you want.
they already do, I saw a video where the pilots said the autoland is great in fog, zero visibility but the plane fined the runway, the real problem is taxing to the gate when you can't see out the window.
Anyway, it took me a while to find someone talking specificly about a 747 but here is a linkhttp://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_a viation/read.main/1882971/
