It will become less prevalent, maybe. I worked for a company that made software that tried to do that. No one bought it. It's a nice idea, letting the computer manage things for you, you not being a file clerk, etc. A lot of users tend to want more control than that. It is difficult to do a lot of things in a purly search based environment, like archiving.

Then again, slashdot told me Apple is making a deal with Intel. Maybe they want that awesome DRM technology... You know, to steal your balls.

I've been using AMD for years because of the price/performance ratio, their quality, and the fact that I like to support competition. I really hope that AMD doesn't bow down to the man and do the same thing. I'm really surprised that Intel would make such a move when they are battling AMD so fiercely.

This could be the reason that AMD takes over the lead. I know I'm not buying DRMed crap and I'm telling everyone I know the same thing.

I bought two ink cartridges at the same time(so if one ran out, I would have one on hand, didn't have a car back then sux0r3d.) Anyways, One color stopped printing, I assumed that it was out of ink and switched it (after a few years now, it coulda been the 2.5...), the other cartridge did not print at least one color (maybe magenta).

I thought I ran out of ink in one, and got a bad cartridge with the other. I now realize that I dealt with a cracker-jack group of fuckers at HP. Waste of money! I like that printer too.

I have also been the default tech support person for family and friends who are baffled that they can't open their documents. If everything is created with the same version, you'll be fine. Good luck in all other situations.

I don't have word on my computer any longer, I use openoffice.org. I haven't tested its ability to open and create word docs, but I know it's there. Still when I've applied for jobs that require a resume in ".doc format" they get my .html resume and if they have a problem with that, (which no one has yet, though they all ask for it in .doc), they get my explanation of, "All computers can view html, not all can view .doc... etc etc" Yes I know not *all* computers, but let's not be pedantic.
