chateau is a great map, the best is cs_rio!!! It's a custom map, so not everyone has played it. Lots of places to hide, small so there's lots of killing. Rio is an old school map though. I know its possible, but does anyone know how to get the old maps to run on the new engine? I know they did it with all of halflife, for hl:source, and I played a bunch of maps that are the same as the old versions, (chateau, piranisi...)

Sure people are easily tracked who use bit torrent. I doubt they really care. Bit Torrent allows easy ways to find files. It may not be mainstream easy, but it is very easy to use. You can get tons of movies/music/tv shows/warez with little effort, much easier than tracking down ftps and getting access from someone/ using kazaa and hoping what you download is really what you think it is, etc. People want easy access to filez! THey don't care about getting caught

The amount of ram is important, everyone knows. The more ram you have the less you have to use slow virtual memory. But a very important concideration is the speed of the ram itself. If you get cheap shitty ram you will destroy your performance. Make sure you get a low cache latency and that the ram runs at the same frequency as your FSB. It really can make a huge difference.

  13. Awesome example - Low Tech on Homebrew Digital Picture Frame w/Remote · · Score: 2, Interesting

My crazy Uncle Tony built a dynamic picture frame. It was way cooler than these fancy lcd dealies you're hearing about these days. He printed out a bunch of pictures on one of those old sk00l dot matrix printers that used the paper sheets with the holes on the sides, that you had to rip off after it printed; you know what I'm talking about. Anyways, he printed a bunch of pictures on a long sheet. Then he put em in his dynamic picture frame, which allowed you to switch pictures using a crank that rolled the sheet picture to picture. It was totally cool.

But I hear that in korea, only old people use low tech dynamic picture frames. Uncle Tony lived in South Jersey, and if you called him old, he'd fucking kill you by bludgening you with a baseball bat.

  20. Reasons why on Math Skills Survey Shows U.S. Lags Behind · · Score: -1

This is nothing new, we've heard this for years. I've heard explanations for this that I don't buy completely. For example, English speakers have special words like thirteen, fourteen... where other cultures are more literal, "ten-three, ten-four..." which lends itself more to natural ability. That may be one thing against Americans or whatnot but its not the real issue.

One problem is bad teachers. Horrible horrible teachers. Kids get behind at one point and from there never learn anything from that point on. Applied math is actually very easy. Some people need to study and practice the techniques, but almost everyone is capable of mastering applied math. However, you can't blame teachers for everything. If kids make the effort then they can do well. They should see a teacher or some other tutor if they get behind. They don't. That's why we're failing, and here's why they don't:

Math, Engineering, those fields aren't as highly regarded in the US anymore. Sure there's lots of people interested in it and are very talented and successful, but in general we've become lazy. People in other countries who don't start out as fortunate as many americans work harder towards these goals. Also it doesn't help that you can take a MUCH EASIER job as a business jackoff and make twice as much as the scientist/mathematician/engineer, get all the credit for the work, and do basically nothing but bullshitting with some other asshole on the phone for awhile and having sex with the secretary. Both browsing and email are integrated which is nice, because they are two very common applications. I don't understand the huge gains people get by using firefox and thunderbird separately.

Mozilla suite is stable and all I need, I never had a problem with it using too much memory like some people claim. I also have this bitchin faux wood theme that makes it look like its 1975.

Don't get me wrong, I like that there's more products to choose from and more competition for ms and crew, but I just don't get why mozilla suite was ignored and firefox and thunderbird are so highly regarded.
