Sorry how many copies did COD4 sell on the PC compared to the PS3/360?
Sins of a Solar Empire is a great game. But its sales are paltry in comparison to an "average" game on a console.
Epic pulling out of PCs, iD talking about pulling out of PC market(developing for console first), etc, etc. PC is becoming a MMORPG environment. All i do on my PC are race sims, which consoles will never be able to touch.
Trackmania id say. Its a very fun addicting game, and while i dont believe it has a Split Screen mode. It has a hotseat mode to take turns doing tracks. Plus there are two free versions of the games, which are both very full featured, Trackmania Nations and the just released Trackmania Forever.
This week they were 83/17 in favor of BD. and Hardware sales went to 93% in favor of Blu-Ray on the standalone front. How many weeks will this have to go on before the NPD will declare it dead?
Nope. Samsung just announced they are discontinuing their dual-format players. And there are no new ones being announced from anyone else. HDDVD is dying such a quick death there is really no reason to ever go forward with more dual format players. Its just going to be Blu-Ray.
None. Most likely due to the fact that the cost to change and the availability of comparable FOSS software was 0.
Sometimes not having software be a PITA to learn and operate is worth paying our your ass for.
I started my life on computers with a PCJr that my dad brought home. I loved that thing dearly. And its wireless keyboard. Many hours gaming on Kings Quests, Space Quests, zork, hitchhikers guide text games, GWBasic cartridges. 16 colors. it was a grand machine.
The other big difference i have noticed between the formats respective "camps" is the quality, quantity of advertising for their products.
Blu-Ray commercials are everywhere touting the screen quality with huge explosions, fancy animations, etc etc. HDDVD commercials get some actor from the Sopranos that no one even knows the name of sitting on a couch talking about how clear it looks. Pretty boring if you ask me.
Aside from that the sheer amount of commercials touting a films availability on Blu-Ray seem to far outweigh the amount of commercials making mentions of HDDVD. Blu-Ray makes sure to say, "Available on Blu-Ray", while HDDVD commercials seem to say "Available on Hi Definition", which doesnt inform the consumer really what the difference is.
Most average joes may not have a HD player at home, but they have heard of Blu-Ray, many have differentiated between regular DVD and HDDVD, one inlaw i had actually bought an upscaling dvd player thinking it was an HDDVD player due to the description on the device. HDDVD is just more confusing in its name alone. Blu-Ray cant be mistaken.
I am not saying this was a major issue for HDDVD, but i dont feel like they reached out to the everyday consumer and educated them properly, like the BDA did with blu-ray.
They are supporting both formats pretty equally at this point.
But it isnt as important as it once was since the majority of adult material is now delivered digitally.
Seriously guys. We ALL know that Linux isn't going to penetrate any low cost PC market. Dell hardly sold any Ubuntus, the Lindows experiment was a failure and most of those sold because they were cheap and could be formatted to install pirated copies of Windows anyway.
The mass Market doesnt care about Linux. They care about easy. That means Windows. Sad but true.
Other than the discontinued HDDVD players that are being price slashed currently, Blu-Ray media on average is cheaper to own than HDDVD. I wish people could realize that Blu-Ray and the BDA is not Sony. It is a conglomerate of very large electronic/computer corporations such as Samsung, HP, Dell, Apple, etc. All who sit on the board of directors, along with Sony. While Sony is obviously the biggest pusher of the format, they by no means dictate the pricing as they have in the past with their sole proprietary formats.
This is not the same as the UMD, Minidisc, Memory Stick, etc.
I guess I am fortunate to never have experienced a Ratchet and Clank game prior to TOD. I find myself thoroughly enjoying the game/acting/cutscenes. Especially the Pirate Planet. I think it is a fun game in its own right and definitely has made me a fan of any future releases in this series.
I wouldnt cheat in the first place, and I have been enjoying this game immensely vs others online over the past weekend. But honestly? Id rather have the real cards because i am too lazy to download, print copies. I dont think and i hope that the majority of gamers will go the route of copying. As others have pointed out its not really the cheating that will hurt the game, its the lack of card sales that would hurt it. Maybe there will be some resolution in a future patch, although how it could be resolved I do not know. Perhaps later editions will have some anti-counterfeit measures that will at least make copying cards not worth the effort except to the extremely determined.
Lightroom has absolutely become the defacto dSLR pro/amateur tool of choice. Very quckly at that. I have used gimps raw/curve tools when i have been in a pinch, but Lightroom is so aboslutely polished and versatile, its easily worth the 199 i paid for it. I think its great gimp is going to add more features for photographers, but i see no reason for any serious photographer to bother with it.
Oh i guess its to be expected. Nowhere in the article does it blame the PS3 for the delays. It specifically states BOTH systems have their technological issues that they need to work through. In typical Slashdot fashion, it is turned into an anti-ps3 article. Way to be unbiased in the news reporting once again.
UT3 wont be on the 360 until 2008 sometime. But to give the ps3 credit, many of us just cant game on computers anymore. Or dont have gaming computers, so it being on the PS3 and also allowing Mouse/KB support is really big time. That lone would make me buy the ps3 version over the 360 version.
But that being said, I am looking forward to the same games the OP is aside from Assassins Creed.
But my most wanted game on any console is probably Mass Effect for the 360.
Tekken 6 would be a close second, which contrary to your statement is not just a fighting game with a graphics bump. Tekken 6 is one of the worlds most competetive and popular fighting games. Online is to be included as well. This is really big for fighting fans and the fighting genre in general. I wouldnt dismiss it so casually.
These numbers dont reflect the price cuts. But the PS3 still managed 10k more units this month than last. Wii is still stomping away though obviously.
Next few months numbers for Sony after the price drop and a big E3, and numbers for 360 after all of the reliability suits, should make for interesting data.
OK, i am usually one of the first ones to defend sony, and how much i love my PS3(which i do). But this is just too much. How can sony honestly be that stupid. Unless we are missing something and they are going to drop the 80gb model down to 499 after the 60gb is phased out this makes no sense at all. Why announce this after you have an amazing showing at E3 and then screw it all up with bad PR like this.
Really ridiculous.
Today the PS3 is the #1 selling system on Amazon. Futureshop.CA reports they are sold out, and Best Buy.ca was also sold out at one point this morning. It may just be a quick jump following the Price cut and we may see Sony slip back down, but the 100$ off is obviously getting people pulling the trigger on it who otherwise wouldnt be.
Slashdot is run by such uber nerds that they actually thought this would be funny? Slashdot April Fools is always full of fail. :(

I really dont think any console maker needs PC gamers to move to consoles, they all already have. Hence the death of PC Gaming.

I already did that when the CDROM and 3.5" Floppy became standard, from sony.

Gran Turismo HD demo supports force feedback on wheels such as the G25, etc.
