most forms of engineering graphics are done in caps, im probaly the only person in the design dept at my office whos caps are not on all the time. i get IM's all the time in nothing but caps just because of this but, im a big boy and know why so it dont bother me, i never really got very worked up over the case of someones letter when they are talking to me, the words themselves are ususaly what tells me what they mean...
can i get a hell yes.... real old school warhammer and warhammer 40k is the most untapped set of mythos out there..it could make such great movies and games..but.....aside from dawn of war (and im including the new warhammer online thats coming up, which seems to be a watered down kiddie version of warhammer fantasy...patoooey) all the GW franchise games have blown with walnuts. its nice to see someone outside of my own group of nerds that sees the light.
boy do i agree with that, hL2 really seemed to be nipped off, i dont know if it was the hacker set-back, a decision to just make it short to get it out the door (i really feel that 99% of the effort on hL2 was on the engine and not the game itself *cough..ID..*cough) this does seem to be a trend with games these days (their length) but it really seemed to leap out at me with HL2
"Mr. Tucker, an Internet industry executive who holds a Ph.D. in computer science, decided that rather than take the time to remove the offending software, he would spend $400 on a new machine."
how in the hell could it possible be either cheaper or quicker to pitch a comp and march off and buy another one, some of the people could just claim comp ignorance. but a guy with a ph.d in comp-sci not being able to work out what a restore disk is for...come on...
how hard is it really to restore a mass market co. comp these days..not very hard. most of the comps cited in the article where pretty old, and new comp or rebuild you would still ahve to burn off all your pics and misc personal items you wanted to keep. and restoring a comp is alot quicker than shopping for one and getting it. this just sounds iresponsible to me. whats next my car has a flat so i better pitch it
you dont even need to have a friend, you can get the eqlive patcher on sony's website, run it and it wil download and rebuild the game for you beofore it ever asks for a user/password. i just reinstalled myself this way under a week ago, on a high speed line it is in fact teh easier way to do it (takes longer but is unattended..no disk swaps)
PCs are great for certain types of games (mmog's..fps..rts..Some good single play rpgs)
And consoles are great for some other sports games/fighting games (sit on couch drink beer and play games with your friends type of games) and driving games...not to mention the rpgs that will never see release on a pc
I don't think either will ever totally eclipse the other. They are truly different in their content and mode of play (anyone who thinks a fps has ANY business on a console and being played without a mouse truly does not know the true nature of the force) consoles are easy to use..realtivly low cost and no maintenance. Have a variety of games and can be played on the big TV you got sitting there in your living room. and have controls that are well suited to certain game types. PCs have smaller screens but with significantly great graphic detail and can host a radically more complex game and can utilize just about any type of input device, the PC is a non specialized device and has a reason to be in most houses regardless o its gaming potential. They are significantly harder to use as far as upgrades and just getting a game to work. But I can tell you one thing although annoying from time to time this aspect of PC gaming ahs forced both of my children to go well beyond being a clueless user of PCs they both have gained some insight and trouble shooting skill as a result of PC gaming, now yes that's a poor reason to sell into something (well I like land rovers because I learned so much about cars due to them breaking down all the time) but...
In short they are fundamentally different machines with a different primary purpose..
Don't lock your self into a monogamous relationship with a certain one;-)
after the video game awards show they ran before..would them cutting this down to 5 min sound like a bad idea. I woudl rather 5 min of crap than an hour of crap
this is hardly a new thing, ask anyone who has been invovled in the live-beta test of the star wars galaxies (mmog) games recent combat upgrade. Unless you had "contrustive" things to say a.k.a. praise for the machine..your posts where deleated and you where likely to be banned from the boards. this has ben going on for ages in many forms on the net. company sponsered boards..blogs whatever are subject to the editing whims of the company conttroling them, they always have been. unfortunately most companies have such disdain for the single uninited consumer that they now feel that they can simply tell us as an individual to go to hell, theres a world of us individuals out there still and our dollar wont be missed, there are others waiting in line
I can think of another game that is could utilize a 512mg graphics card as well Everquest 2, but eq2 was designed to scale into the future and utilize ahrdware that currnetly does nto exist, now is that areason to buy this card well prob not..but there are some games out there that could (in theory at least) beifit from this type of card. I woudl be curious to see soem benchmarks on it in that game.
If janet jackson pulls out "her" wang, I think me..my son..and my daughter and everyone else would spend more time being shocked than I would running off screaming or explaining to my kids what it was..now I may have some trouble explaining how how janet jackson got a wang in the first place...mayby micheal jackson is jsut a shoddy robot and he assumed his sisters identity back in the early 90's..and now his pee-wee nature is rearing itself again

For a kid that old (who probably has a pretty firm grip on Win OS and setting up a comp) I would recommend
A. Teach them what you know. What can YOU do with a comp. Do you know any lang? The best thing to teach them is what you actually have a good grip on yourself.
B. if you have the extra bits, Let them build a comp from the ground up. Preferably with an older win os so it¦s not as easy or even better let them build a Linux box. Buy them a A+ cert book or a network+ cert book or a Upgrading and Repairing PCs, by Scott Mueller; (a lot of stuff they don¦t want or need to know but a lot of other good basic info although a bit dry for most kids)
C. Show them where notepad is. Show them where IE is and give them a book on html or point them to a decent website on html (can¦t think of one right now but there¦s lots out there) or better yet if you have any html skills yourself sit down a share it with them. Html is not exactly the most advanced thing in the world but I think it¦s about the modern level of LOGO these days. Pretty easy to get and at least they can do something displayable (hunt down some freebie web space and they can show it to their friends)
D. Introduce them to something along the lines of chipmunk basic (for us old basic hacks) or if you are really serious go ahead and set them down in front of visual basic or c or c++ if you yourself have the skills to teach them. Don¦t under estimate what they can soak up.
E. If they have a game they like, look into if there is a mod community for it and see if they can do some elementary modding. Although this can be a very hard place to start. (and the tools needed may be out of reach) some games like neverwinter nights and FPS¦s like farcry have good map making and/or modding tools built in. Although this is not really programming there can be some creative aspect to it shows them a bit about what goes into a game. This is also a great place for would be artists.
F. Spend time with your kids while they use their computers. computers are not babysitters, hang over their shoulders. See where they browse, what are they interested in see what they know and try to build on it. Show them how to set up dhcp if your house has a server. Show them how you set up your printer, how you shared it with the other comps in your house.
Please forgive my at work and typing fast spelling and grammar
i can understand the valve wants to keep as much money in their pockets as they can, but steam really is a joke. i have 4 legit copies of hl1/cs we rebuilt my sons box and went to reinstall hl1 on his comp..of course he cant rem his steam pass. how do you recover your account well. his hotmail account had lasped so we could not resend his pass to his email (we have to have a dif email for each of these so we can onlly attach so many to our permanent email accoutn..and who wnats to give valve their real email addy anyways) so basically unless we send them his original package AND pay them a fee that cd key is dead so a game we bought ( pre steam mind you) is now under a new eula and we cant use a game we actually own. this is part of my problem with steam. all it is a control system under the guise of a content delivery system and no game should try to stick around in your task bar when i leave a game it should close without having to shut it down then go to my taskbar and shut it down again. steam is jsut a joke on the paying customers and i will not be buying hl2.5 or 3 or anything else from them
