Roddenberry brought wonder to the series. There was supposed to be moments that are a little campy. That's true Trek:-) I think it is the opposite; that Trek got WORSE after the first few seasons. It was entertainment, which is what keeps Trek fresh and fun.
Indeed. It blows my mind that a show with so much potential like Enterprise could be so terribly executed. I mean, the founding of the Federation of Planets, working out the bugs in the technology, forming the Prime Directive -- how much more fertile a ground for new, interesting, mind-bending stories can you have? But, Boring Berman managed to make such ground into Snoresville.
They really under-utilized Bakula too. Quantum Leap showed what an amazing character he is. It seems like he is pretty much sleep-walking on Enterprise, with an occasional moment of being rattled awake, where he is for a time really pissed-off until he slumbers off again. He is such an amazing actor, but it is the writing that brings his character down.
It's been a long episode,
now Trek will dissapear.
It's been a boring episode,
and Trek's time is finally here.
I will learn to turn my TV off at night,
no Star Trek will be why.
No, I'm not gonna see Star Trek no more,
because of this Rick Berman guy.
Cuz I've lost faith in my heart.
Paramount has now forsake' me!
I did choose to believe,
the writers might be better lately.
I have strength, to move on,
to not let Star Trek so sedate me.
I press off on my remote...
I've lost faith,
I've lost faith, faith in my heart!
From what I can remember of the theme song, that seems to match and sum up how I feel about Enterprise.:-)
You know, if society felt it had a social contract with me, they'd throw me behind bars in a second. Because, I've been pissing on this "social contract" from the day I've been born. Let's talk about businesses and they're social contract with us. I don't think it is too bold to say that businesses do not honor any kind of social contract with anybody. So, why should I zip-up for them?
I suppose, depending on how you define new. However, the first post appears to say the same thing, and it is moderated Informative +5. So, you know, I'm definitely not alone. Duplicate posts happen all the time here too, but that doesn't make them right either. The latter is more of a mistake, though. At any rate, I'm not dissing the developer site, I'm just wondering about the rules.
Okay, I guess I'm wrong here. I didn't realize we could self-promote on here. I thought it was kindof like the hacker rule. You can't call yourself a hacker, someone else has to give you that name. So, like with Slashdot, you can't put your own web-site up, but someone else has to sponsor it. Then again, the moderators kinda do that anyway, so I see your points on this.
I didn't see a section that says people can use Slashdot to promote their stuff. I didn't see it specifically say it can't, but culturally, I thought this was taboo.
Listen, I like Slashdot. It is the only site I surf regularly. But, sometimes, I just have to wonder what the criteria is for story postings. Why is it advertisements like this get in? Is there a problem with the story moderation system that needs fixing?
Yeah, I figured this had to be April fools too once I saw that Apple was going to advertise their computers or something. How foolish that would be. I mean, look at how successful Amiga was because of Commodore's lack of advertising!
Any story where the main characters suffer because they are in love with each other and eventually kill themselves in the end is great reading for kids of all ages.
I agree with PhilHibbs here. Apple seems to have adopted exactly the wrong attitude in a whole bunch of ways. With things like the whole CherryOS fiasco as well, Microsoft has to be laughing. They're actually lookin ROSEY lately.
No, one of your claims is completely false, and the other is too debatable to call a fact.
Linux is clearly not dominant. Microkernel OS's like Mach (Macintosh) and Windows NT have far more market share than Linux. Linux is only catching up to Macintosh, but it still has not surpassed it (at the time of this writing).
As far as Linux being a poor idea, that is still up-in-the-air. Gaining acceptance cannot support an argument that something is a good idea. If it did, Windows wouldn't be dominant. There are a lot of reasons why Linux is a bad idea, and I think Andy Tannenbaum covered them pretty well. Time is showing whether Linux even survives, much less becomes dominant.
That, and flying cars. Where are our flying cars? Oh wait, there was a recent article on that one. Still, I see no cars in the sky!
...and this is why Moore's Law will continue, even though Moore himself says that it won't. Never underestimate the cleverness of the Human.
Would somebody mod this guy up already? He speaks truth.

Let's change the lyrics.

I base my behavior on the teachings of Jesus; the only social contract I'll sign. Society's contract isn't good enough, IMHO.
Hey, you're the first person to comment on that :-) Gold star!
...and I've been pissing on grammar as well, apparently.
Heh, me neither. I've always paid for /. I figure, if some site has to deal with my rambling, they oughta get some money for it :-)

I guess just not seeing it happen before.

That's why they should experiment using the female brain first.
If Breathing = true ThenGO insane
End If
Much simpler.

Extra points to the person who came up with a title that has two appropriate meanings!

No, women are plug-and-play.
The site seems to have been Slashdotted. Mined a link from Archive.org to it --> Here.

Hey, man, thanks! Everybody says I'm annoying as feck too. Now, I have a great excuse: the universe is full of annoying creatures! :-)
